Bonsai

and why
betty should i settle
for the lesser dreams
of this bonsai?

why should
i distort my growth
in your view
of a miniaturized
world

when i can have
hands as big
and as spread
as the roots
of a banyan tree

when i can have
tendrils and tips
as free as
wild to touch
the blue clouds
hanging
on a cliff?

let me be,
you do not own me.
