A Sharp Contrast

at a friend's party
drinks are served and some
christmas food, dessert and
conversations and laughter
of reminiscenses
we left at the right hour
when the hosts are sleepy

time to be back
to my room,

in sharp contrast
the bed and the pillows
and blankets are
soundly asleep

no snores, not a scratch
of an ant's feet
not a sound from
the walls

deafening silence
questions without answers
