Searching

I don't know where we're going,
but I do know where we've been.
We've also come a long way
on our quest to build a dream.

We've travelled to many cities
in our search for a better life.
When we thought we found it,
we became husband and wife.

Bad times followed the good,
as we fell into a pit of despair.
But then we turned the corner
and we were welcome there.

Our baby came without planning
along with bad times once again.
We lost our jobs unexpectedly
forcing us to catch a run-away train.

We travelled north to the busy cities
where we found work and baby care.
Later that year our baby died,
there was nothing to keep us there.

We decided to finish and separate,
you were sick of travelling around.
The bad times were too much for you,
you needed stability and firmer ground.

I went on alone and found someone new,
who made me forget heartache and tears.
At last I'd found laughter and stability
for the first time in many years.
