Reading The Signs

Something's not quite right,
something's missing or gone.
It feels as though she's here,
but her soul has moved on.

I don't seem to be able to touch
what I used to touch before.
I have no idea what it is
but it's missing for sure.

I've asked if she loves me,
and she said of course,
but I can't see it in her eyes
or hear it in her voice.

I think that she's gone off me
and doesn't want to break my heart.
She's hoping I'll get fed up with her
and be the one to make us part.

It's all over bar the shouting,
but should I make it easy or make it hard.
As a ploy, if I asked her to marry me,
will she admit the weakness of her heart.

However, I could end up in trouble,
she may change her mind and accept,
and there's no way I'm getting married,
so I better end it, alas with deep regret.
