Rain

Tell me water, when you as rain first hit the ground
why is your flow always down,
and why do you always form a puddle or pool
as though it’s your primary rule?

Without remorse you can’t wait to fill a hollow
and when I step in you show no sorrow.
You cry with laughter and soak me through
causing me misery, with a cold or flu.

You lay in wait, appearing so unassuming
for your chance to drench and start me fuming.
And if I missed you when you fell from the sky
you splash me when a vehicle passes by.

Why don’t you stay in the lakes, rivers, and seas,
and stay below ground and feed the plants and trees?
And fall at night so that we have sunshine all day,
but oh no, not you, you have to have your own way.
