Seviglia

'As funny as Mozart
but without the 'trauma',
complained my opera-loving friend.
'Rossini's not my cup of tea'.
Frankly, I prefer the drama
of the heart's lament-
the thoughtful tune-behind-the-tree,
the mad, masked, moon-lit love chase
through the labyrinthine garden
where all dangers are mock
and the libertine gets his due-
What do you think'?
'Yes, yes, yes, perhaps, I agreed, 'all that,
but then, today,
Damrau is singing'.
