A poem on wishes

A poem on wishes
~
Be careful what you wish for
that's what began the chase
a hope held in a dream
of what could someday finally be
only life had other ideas
and threw up walls and fences
to break the spirit into surrender
or make it fight that bit harder
knowing what you live for
what joy awaits at the end
of the scene playing out
trials and tribulations
are sent to test us, our belief
do you stand steadfast
or wilt like a winter flower
be careful what you wish for
is it all you need
