Public Phone

A handset torn in two
Red colour it is
Hanging hapless, helpless
In a twist by its frame
The victim of a fragmented heart?
If only the handset will talk
A million secrets it will spew forth
A thousand Hearts shamed and spurned
A million ideas for novels and movies born
A telephone coin box cracked open
A hundred coins stolen
The victim of a desperate vandal?
The public phones, an authority's
Effort to get folks connected
Enduring all their whims and fancies
Their conditions telling tales
Of their mental health
