Repeatedly Reborn
broken pride
he hides his eyes
inner ugliness suited in shame
resilience indebted in his remorse
tenderness in his will to make right
romance in his promises
attempting to justify the past
reflections hardly remove them from the pain
time picks at old wounds refusing to let heal
prisoner of pride he prays to his pillow at night
cowering beneath the blankets he begs forgiveness
cold winters and cob webs become his every dream
skeletal hauntings
tortured beyond breaking
still there shows no sign or tell
on the surface of him ever forfeiting
unbreakable will
birthed into the worst of the adverse
seed sprouting in the abyss
fruit flourishing in darkness
legacy carved out of bone
the stones carry his initials
the peace settling in the wake
of a violent storm
green as rising spring
from the grey winter grave
time and time again
in the light of grace
he is repeatedly reborn
