Love Poem

I don't know
whether or not
I want to know all about you
or whether I want to keep the
mystery lingering between us alive

what else is there to know about you?
You be the judge,
on what to share and
when to share it, I'll let you decide

all I can do is embrace the way
I feel for you
think of how we met
what little we know of each other
our current circumstances
I contemplate all this
and I laugh

how many men were in her past
he should be grateful, for all of
them directed her into his path

love doesn't care whether it makes
sense or not

no matter where we stand
despite all our efforts and strength
we can never escape love's fall

I can't refuse even those times
love forces me to play the role of the fool
stranded alone crying out desperate

we are all built of love, so isn't just,
love continuously breaks and rebuilds our being

with you there's a familiarity
I can't say whether it belongs to
the past present or future moments we shared
either way it doesn't matter, I don't care

is it anything more than our love,
that universal time traveler of legend?
Surely love is the universal force that connects us

I have nothing but my own imagination
to help me gauge your reaction
but why not take a plunge
risk myself for the thrill of the unknown

who's in control here?
me, you, or are both of us
helpless prisoners of the love?
you, me, love, who can be the judge?

why not say aloud all the crazy statements
love brings to mind, like:
'I love you, one day I wish to make you mine'

- but I believe in love beyond possession
to me, that is the one love
that truly is divine
