When love is not enough

When love is not enough
to make a relationship last
and independence rears its ugly head

and all is said and done
and what has been is past
and some dreams disappear
and the meaning of existence is gone

and still life goes on
and every thing seems wasted
as if living in vain,

I wonder why you at a time thought
that you loved me
and if you only live by feelings
and not also by principle
and what all my caring, sharing
and loving bought?

Maybe only pain…
