When it rains

When the rain comes
with lightning pouring down,
I can see flashes coming nearer from far.

The dogs get scared
by the thundering noise
and shiver with every bang
that the lightning bolts strike,
but the ginger cat’s eyes
glow as if alight.

No rain can keep him in
and like a ghost he prowls away,
appearing here and there
and in the pouring whet climbs trees
to pounce on unexpecting birds.
