Vanishing Act

Here one moment, gone the next
and many are perplexed.
A presence felt and then it's gone.
How long would it go on?

Could not stay in just one place.
Not one memory of her face.
Felt the urge to change direction.
Never made a real connection.

Some would say, Where'd she go? '
No one really wanted to know.
Some would ask, Who was she? '
She was just an absentee.

As a child, left alone.
Had to make it on her own.
Never felt a kindred touch.
Never thought about it much.

Through the years she liked to roam.
The open road became her home.
Accepted her life as a matter of fact.
Always pulled the vanishing act.
