Silent Tears- 'lincoln

Silent tears behind your eyes
like raindrops falling from the skies
can't be seen upon your form.
Can you see the coming storm?

White effigy of alabaster
looking over such disaster,
Can you see where you once stood?
Your speeches made for brotherhood.

My only visit to D.C.
I looked at you and I did see
a pigeon land upon your head.
He stayed a while and then he fled.

My eyes fell silent with some tears,
fearful of the coming years.
Assassinations and abominable greed
would repace your visionary seed.

All that came to do the same
were given statues. Oh the shame!
One by one they were replaced
and over and again the nation disgraced.

Was this grand national dream
just an unattainable scheme
that could never ever work at alll?
Is that why silent tears do fall?
