Oh Sweet Life

Oh sweet life
that seeps away too fast,
why oh why
can we not make it last?

Last until we've
lived it all,
last further than
that lonesome call.
It comes too soon
for we've not done
all we could
except for one.

We lived and breathed
and took life in.
Each new breath
was a chance to win
more time to know
how we did grow.
Our inner peace
was life's big goal
and all that peace
was praise for the soul.

Oh sweet life
you are our gift.
You move too quickly.
Your escape is swift.
And as eyes close
for the very last time
we accept the stairway
to the stars where we climb.
