Not The Yesterdays
Where are the yesterdays of my life?
Just where did they go?
Did they just go up in smoke
and to the 4 winds blow?
I can't remember the early ones
for they went too fast.
I do remember the later ones
for they have recently passed.
Time, what do I know about time
except that it is gone.
And I can't get any of it back.
I have to travel on.
The longer I live, the faster it goes.
The sun still shines. The cock still crows
and warns me that another day
will soon be gone and on its way
joining the wind and smoke that blows.
It reminds me that no one really knows
when their time will end.
And so it is dear friend
that the present time that is with you
is all-important in what you do,
Not the yesterdays.
