Enlightenment

Enlighten me. I ask of Thee
and show me what is real.
No thoughts escape my thinking.
They trap all that I feel.

I need to know. I can't let it go.
How hard it is for me.
Why can't I be just like my friends,
unaware, and just carefree?

They see the world quite differently.
I wait for them to change
I watch. I observe and I pray for them.
They seem so out of range.

There will come a time when they too
will ask to be enlightened.
It will come as a flash in their thinking
and at first they will be frightened.

But fear will leave them finally
and be replaced by love.
Then my life will be justified
with enlightentment from above.
