Diversion

There's a bird that visits my pane each day
and peers inside at me.
I try to stay still so he won't fly away
for he diverts my memory.
I do not think of troubling things
by keeping my focus on him.
I think he understands my stare
for he cocks his head to the side
with happiness and joy unknown
that brings me time to forget
all the things I must return to
with which I am beset.
