Darkness Came

Darkness came and I felt the comfort
that surrounded me.
For all that's seen in the wake of day
is as troubling as a stormy sea
that breaks on shore with violence
and is hard to tame.
Daytime scenes with acts unkind
are what I have to blame.

I try not to be troubled as I look around
but compassion fills my heart
for all the struggling lives I see
whose troubles never depart.
But truth be told, troubles will leave
and others shall take up the plight.
And I'll still be wishing for darkness
and comfort in the night.
