Carmela, My Friend

Always a fond farewell we say.
We part and wait for another day.
We meet again and know full well
all the stories we retell.
Most of them are from when we were young.
Some aren't clear. They're on the tip of our tongue.

What we've forgotten from the past
doesn't matter if it didn't last.
For friendships remain, especially the laughs.
We look at all the old photographs.
Were we that young? Hard to believe.
Pictures don't lie. They don't deceive.

You're there when I need you to hold my hand.
You're there when I've fallen. You help me to stand.
You cheer me up when I'm feeling blue.
You know me as well as I know you.
And so my friend if we have to part.
Don't be sad. We'll have another start.
