A Sad Journey Into Life

Children born into poverty
living with hunger and misery
why did you come here?
And why must you be
facing indignation that comes each day?
Why, why, why didn't you stay
where it was friendly and people don't play
games with your life?
They have cut your life
with a painstaking knife.
It leaves you hungry.
It leaves you cold.
But one day in the future
warm arms will enfold
your body, your mind
and your sweet soul again.
