An Olive Branch

If everyone held out
an olive branch
to everyone,
maybe peace at last
would come to our world
and we would hear
no more crying from mothers
over lost husbands and sons
who have fallen
in far distant lands.
Sadly, that perspective
will never be
so long as there is someone
who wants something
that is owned by someone else.
