Goin' Back

====================
Queen - Going Back
====================
Words and music by Gerry Goffin and Carole King
I think I'm going back
To the things I learnt so well in my youth
I think I'm returning to
Those days when I was young enough to know the truth
Now there are no games
To only pass the time
No more colouring books
No Christmas bells to chime
But thinking young and growing older is no sin
And I can't play the game of life to win
I can recall a time
When I wasn't ashamed to reach out to a friend
And now I think I've got
A lot more than just my toys to lend
Now there's more to do
Than watch my sailboat glide
And every day can be
My magic carpet ride
And I can play hide and seek with my fears
And live my days instead of counting my years
Then everyone debates
The true reality
I'd rather see the world
The way it used to be
A little bit of freedom's all we lack
So catch me if you can
I'm going back

These Are The Days Of Our Lives

Words and music by queen
Sometimes I get to feelin
I was back in the old days - long ago
When we were kids when we were young
Thing seemed so perfect - you know
The days were endless we were crazy we were young
The sun was always shinin - we just lived for fun
Sometimes it seems like lately - I just dont know
The rest of my lifes been just a show
Those were the days of our lives
The bad things in life were so few
Those days are all gone now but one thing is true
When I look and I find I still love you
You cant turn back the clock you cant turn back the tide
Aint that a shame
Id like to go back one time on a roller coaster ride
When life was just a game
No use in sitting and thinkin on what you did
When you can lay back and enjoy it through your kids
Sometimes it seems like lately - I just dont know
Better sit back and go with the flow
Cos these are the days of our lives
Theyve flown in the swiftness of time
These days are all gone now but some things remain
When I look and I find no change
Those were the days of our lives - yeah
The bad things in life were so few
Those days are all gone now but one things still true
When I look and I find
I still love you
I still love you

Getting Old

When you’re young you think you know it all
Then you get old and life begins to unfold.
In their youth they don’t think ahead
The future is something they do not dread.

They feel that everything in life they can control
They’re young and strong and very bold.
Aaaah! Those beautiful days bring back memories
Of how simple life used to be.

Youth had respect for the elderly
And their fellow man.
Now the elderly they try to scam.

When they are older they will see
They want respect and to live with dignity.
they are young and they don’t seem to understand
That with age you may need a helping hand.

Everything in life comes in stages
It’s like a book when you turn the pages
It gets deeper and keeps you enthralled
Until the time that you reach the end
And you’ve lost all your family and friends.

The First stage is when you are a child
And someone is taking care of you for that while.
The Second stage is when you become a teen
And you feel like a king or queen.
You feel that you can not get old
This is what you believe at this stage in your life
Because you’re not looking at the struggles and strife.
The Third stage is the adolescent years
And you feel you’re in control and lose your fears.

The final stage is when you become old and gray
And your youthful years have slipped away.
You look back and ask yourself!
where did All those years go?
Why did I waste so much time?

And the most important thing is
That I am so glad I made you mine
For with you by my side I had a life divine.

So to the youth who have not gotten to this stage
Don’t get angry, and get rid of your rage.
There is no way to turn back the time
For time just moves straight ahead
You’re getting to the point that you now dread.

WELCOME TO OLD AGE! HA-HA

Back Where It Was At

As our years get older
we have that yearning
to peel away those years
going back to the days
that we most enjoyed
back to where it was at.

Where we used to
dance the night away
to our favourite
artist of the day
and each generation
have artists of their own.

In the fifties, the Americans
lead the way with rock and roll
and Elvis was King
falling in his footsteps
other greats followed behind.

In the winter’s snow of February 1959,
the world was shocked
and a generation’s music died
in a plane crash
that claimed three lives.

In the sixties, the British
took the lead
handing out the change
with the Beatles
and the term Beatlemainia was born.

In the seventies Sweden
took the lead with ABBA
becoming the new Kings and Queens
with their catchy lyrics
and sing along songs.

As a testament of those days
back where it was at,
we buy reissued CD’s
to play and play, again
so we can relive once more
a time when we were young
back where it was at.

As I Was Growing Up

As I was growing up, I saw a different world from today,
People were not angry, there wasn't many that went astray;
You could go along, and share a cheery hello to all,
And on the old telephone, you'd get a great helpful call.

Yes! As I was growing up in my childhood days, I'd see,
No electronic toys or games, only board games for me;
When my mother cooked the cake, she'd beat by hand,
And if we were naughty, she'd make us understand.

Then as a teenager, I saw changes coming each day,
Many new cars and cameras around, and things we did play;
Then planes and speed came fast, electric trains changed too,
If only I could go back to the old days, I would and that's true.

Now as a middle age, I see crime on the fast increase,
Coming to a cashless time, why does it have to cease;
And I see people everywhere are not caring for any other,
But they want to even hurt, their sister or their brother.

Let's all now think of God, and what He does think,
From the very poor around, to the rich that wear mink;
That God wants us to consider our neighbor and be kind,
Donn't try to pay back and hurt, but have care on our mind.

Our Guessing Game

Walking in the sand
Thinking of things, adventures in my mind
Tall ships that sail
Across the ocean wide
They wont wait for me
See the way they glide away so gracefully
And with tomorrow what will become of me
They leave me so much to explain
Thats the start of our guessing game
There are times when I think Ive found the truth
There are times when I know that Im wrong
And the days when I try to hide my fears
Bless the days when Im feeling strong
Bless the days when Im feeling strong
Wonder why we try so hard
Wonder why we try at all
You wonder why the world is turning around
When in the end it wont matter at all
Standing in the town
Looking at people, counting their frowns
Unhappy faces, hurrying around
So blind they cannot see
All of these things
The way life ought to be
And with tomorrow what will they make of me
It leaves me so much to explain
Thats the start of our guessing game
There are times when I think Ive found the truth
There are times when I know that Im wrong
And the days when I try to hide my fears
Bless the days when Im feeling strong
There are times when I think Ive found the truth
There are times when I know that Im wrong
And the days when I try to hide my fears

These Are The Days

Ah ah
Heres a song
About living in the past
If it was so good then
How come it didnt last?
If it helps you
Ill put it in a phrase
Those were the times
But these are the days
These are the days
These are the days
These are the days
These are the days
These are the days
The times youre smiling back on
Had that great sitcom
It hardly compensated
For the terror of the bomb
Let me help
cause youre looking through a haze
Those were the times
These are the days
These are the days
Hey hey hey
These are the days
Can you hear me now?
These are the days
Look around look around look around
These are the days
These are the days
Hey hey live today
These are the days
Its time to put the past away
These are the days
The more you do the more you say
These are the days
The more I need to get away
Youre longing for a time
There never was
Now tell me the truth
Youre looking for the reason
Its because
Youre fighting for youth
But if I have to listen any more
To fantasy talk
Or any other bug you have
Im leaving
Now Im not saying
Everything is really great
Hey hey hey
After sixteen years
Of legalised class hate
Why waste time
Looking back for things to praise?
Those were the times huh
But these are the days
These are the days
Looking back in history
These are the days
Time to get contempory
These are the days
The past is not the place to be

Young Explorers

Two young lions surveyed the land
And paused to take it in,
As if the future could be planned,
So they would always win.
With hiding places here and there,
Shade from the burning sun
And danger spots they must beware,
Yet spaces they could run...
Life wasn't always hide and seek,
Life wasn't always bright...
For soon the day would pass its peak
And fade into the night...
Two young lions with lots to learn,
Exploring now and then.
When hunting, they must twist and turn
To help them catch again.
For now, they stood with dignity
And with a sense of pride...
Majestically and mightily,
As brothers, side-by-side.
Two young lions must carry on
The legacy of life,
Aware, they, too, will soon be gone,
Though battling to survive.
Their journey started years ago
When they were cubs at play...
Not knowing who was friend or foe,
Until they found their way...
Two young lions, aware, astute...
At one with Nature's Laws...
To children's eyes, they may look cute,
Yet watch those teeth and claws!
The young explorers hold no grudge
When things are fair and square.
Most of the time, they don't ask much...
They'll take the lions' share...

The poem is based on the magnificent painting
by Stephen Gayford called 'Young Explorers'.

The Prodigal

I face the day again
Against the window pane.
I remain your closest friend,
And wish you back again.
You wonder how i feel;
You think you've pushed too far.
If only you could see this pen
Scribbling down my heart.
I'll be waiting.
I may be young or old and gray,
Counting the days,
But i'll be waiting,
And when i finally see you come,
I'll run when i see you--
I'll meet you.
But still the days drag on.
Why did you decide to go?
Did you only need to see
What only time can show?
I'll be waiting.
I may be young or old and gray,
Counting the days,
But i'll be waiting,
And when i finally see you come,
I'll run when i see you.
And even if
You never do return,
Still i will have learned
How to love you better.
I'll be waiting.
I may be young or old and gray,
Counting the days,
But i'll be waiting,
And when i finally see you come,
I'll run to meet you.
I'll be waiting.
I may be young or old and gray,
Counting the days,
I'll be waiting,
And when i finally see you come,
I'll run to meet you.

I Want You Back

I want you back (I want you)
I want you to stay
Open your mind
And quit the games you play
I want you back (I want you)
I want you tonight
Calling your name
And let me hold you tight
Ohohuhohoh, I want you back again
Ohohuhohoh, cause I'm your man
Ohohuhohoh, I want you back again
Can't live without you and I wanna be your man
I'm crazy about the things you do
I have fallen for you, as you wanted me to
I don't want your money, I want your time
I give you everything inside my heart could find
I'll be your soulmate, your man heaven sent
till the end, I hold your hand like nobody else I understand
Now end, the colour of my heart is black
Quit the games you play because I want you back
All that I possess I'll sacrifice
Take my heart and I will name the price
I searched the whole world just for a girl like you
Why did you hurt me, I don't believe it's true
Take two, and I would do anything to hold you tonight
And forever for the rest of time in this life
I thought you gonna be my wife, without you close to me
You know I can't survive
Now you got the best of me, come on and take the rest of me
Please stop the game, and call my name, no shame,
I feel pain, the colour of my heart is black
Quit the games you play because I want you back
I would move a mountain just for you
I would pull the sun out of the blue
I'll give you one more chance to make it right
Can't live without you, I want you by my side

On Receiving A Christmas Card From Nora

A Christmas card from a friend far away
It takes me back again to boyhood day
She was a woman when I was young boy
Some forty years ago how time does fly.

She was a good friend to our family
And nice to know she still remember me
A friend and neighbour of the very best
And one of the kindest souls of Millstreet West.

That Christmas card from Nora took me far away
Back home to Millstreet Town and Claraghatlea
And Christmas was a special time of year
A time of Santa, Christmas fun and cheer.

A Christmas card from friend of years ago
And no friend like old friend we used to know
And a card from dear friend is a gift of joy
And it took me back to when I was a boy.

Magic Carpet Ride

Take me for a magic carpet ride.
Let that magic carpet glide
slowly so I can see
all the places where misery
lives every day.

Let it glide over Iraq
so I can see why our boys can't come back
to their babies and wives
and try best they can to get on with their lives.

Let it glide over the Gaza strip
where two nations are joined at the hip
and don't even know it.
I can see the misery from where I sit.

Let it glide over the oil fields
where they pump the lifeblood that the earth yields.
Black gold all for a price
in a bloody war of sacrifice.

Let it glide over the African land
to help me try and understand
why all of its beauty and natural resource
is raped and pillaged with no remorse.

Let it glide over China's great wall
separating its people from the rest of us all,
where liberties are abused on every day,
where no one's allowed to have a say.

Let me glide over the Vatican
where so much praise is given one man.
Gold is there wherever I gaze.
Poverty forgotten, but not the praise.

Let me glide over the streets of our cities
where the smog is thick and makes you wheeze.
The homeless and beggars begging for change
in a land of freedom. I find that strange.

Take me back to my own little home
from wherever my carpet ride did roam.
I've seen too much misery for one long day.
It's time for me to lie down and pray.

Us Oldies

It is that time of the year,
when my birthday is looming in the air
and I begin to feel quite ancient.
I felt old when my children
presented me with their children
and made me a grandparent,
but when their children
started having children of their own
and stuck a great in front of grandparent
you really begin to feel ancient,
especially when you haven’t retired yet.
When we were young,
oh, those lovely blessed days
when the summers seem to last forever
and the sun always shone.
Life was much more laid back then.
Oh where have they all gone?
Then came the teenage years
opening up all our dreams
of being some kind of superstar.
Yes, I remember them so well,
the music and the romance in the air.
Sometimes I hark back
to those days way back then.

Next, you are an adult
with responsibilities and children of your own.
From there you are on a downward slope
at least that is what some people say.
Well, don’t you believe it;
you’re always as young as you feel.
You can still go out and play
those young kids games.
Personally, I never grew up,
as my friends will testify.
I still have my Peter Pan persona,
Hip Hip Hooray.
I may not drink,
but I can act as crazy as if I do
and that makes life much more fun
being like me a kind old fool.
Kid think they are the only ones
who can have fun,
don’t you believe it,
us oldies can have fun too.

I Sit Back And Think

I sit back and think
What do young ones really know?
How to be a mother
A friend who really knows
Then you meet a young person
With ideals and their dreams
And suddenly your face
With an adult not a kid
You know not their past
Of teething and games
That’s a life you have with your own

You look past the youthful
Way that they are
And let them be humans
And live life to the full
We use to be young
At one stage of our lives
What makes us different?
Is were older and wiser
So we like to think

So I say with a smile
To young adults of this world
I bow down low and say
Hello my friend
We may be much older
And wiser we think
But at times you surprise us
With love and wisdom
That is beyond all your years
And yes I bow and acknowledge you all
Simply because you’re our future
Leaders of tomorrow
Good luck to you all
