The List Goes On

Radio play, just depresses me today,
Why is it so throwaway?
The lists that you write just to classify this tripe,
When clearly it all sounds the same
I've heard it all done before,
100 years ago, or more,
Orginality is so passe
Just the same old politics
Through pretentious effects units,
By self obsessive slobs... the list goes on
Madia press has become an utter mess,
The opinions of failed pop stars,
They constantly try to divert the public eye,
Led by large cash advances and such
I've heard it all done before,
100 years ago or more
Originality is so passe,
Forgotten geners get re-hashed
Create the craze, create the cash,
Will you buy anything... the list goes on
And I will try, not to let this get to me,
But it goes on,
Yeah it goes on, and on and on and on...
I've heard it all done before,
100 years ago or more,
Originality is so passe,
I'll never lose my faith in you,
If nothing's good what can you do,
Just don't buy anything,
The list goes on,
On the list goes on

Society

Talking to someone today,
we reminisced of years gone by.
We reflected on things
when we were young and didn’t have,
and how much fun we had.
We didn’t have TVs, CDs or DVDs,
computers or anything like that.
We had to twiddle a cat’s whisker to hear
the radio we might have built.
What we did have was an imagination,
creating games we could play.
We didn’t destroy everything in our wake,
but looked after everything we got.
Today our society it doesn’t matter,
things are so easily replace,
if you break something today
you can always replace it tomorrow,
and the wastage that goes around,
because nothing means much anymore.
Years ago, we used to treasure
everything that we got.
Today it means nothing,
as they have everything and want for naught.
Everything has lost its value.
Now just look around and make a list,
of what material thing in your life
that can never be replaced.
Then do another list of everything
that can be replaced.
The first list will contain next to nothing,
and the second will go on and on.
This should show you a picture of our society today.

The Secret

WHAT says the wind to the waving trees?
What says the wave to the river?
What means the sigh in the passing breeze?
Why do the rushes quiver?
Have you not heard the fainting cry
Of the flowers that said 'Good-bye, good-bye'?
List how the gray dove moans and grieves
Under the woodland cover;
List to the drift of the falling leaves,
List to the wail of the lover.
Have you not caught the message heard
Already by wave and breeze and bird?
Come, come away to the river's bank,
Come in the early morning;
Come when the grass with dew is dank,
There you will find the warning —
A hint in the kiss of the quickening air
Of the secret that birds and breezes bear.

Too Patient

When I began to weed through,
My priority list...
I saw some things on it,
That no longer exist.

I had placed people,
Who I considered friends on this list.
And for years they had been on it...
Doing and saying things to me as they wished.
Some don't speak to me.
But my name is on their lips.

When I began to weed through,
My priority list...
I saw some things on it,
That should not on my list exist!

Very few on my priority list,
Have me on their agenda.
And if they do,
I'm sure it's for fun, sport and gossip.

When I began to weed through,
My priority list...
I saw some things on it,
I couldn't not explain...
Why some names had hearts near them.
Did I do that?
Did I draw them in?

I use to dropp every and anything,
To be at someone's aide.
Some people I would call everyday...
Just to see if they were okay.
I've even allowed my own work to be submitted...
So folks could get their college degrees.
Joking about this,
I am not!
I have been the subject of innuendos and lies,
As if my life meant nothing at all.
To leave me to walk around with 'my' pain disguised.

Then I awakened and realized.
I am considered a fool!

Today...
When I began to weed through,
My priority list...
I saw some things on it,
That no longer exist.

And wondered to myself 'WHY'...
Is this stuff still 'there'.
Get rid of it!
This makes no sense.
Why do you have these people's lives,
Prioritized?

'That is being too patient!
Fix this and get this done quick! '
I have moments when I am completely rational.

The Old School List

In a wild moraine of forgotten books,
On the glacier of years gone by,
As I plied my rake for order's sake,
There was one that caught my eye:
And I sat by the shelf till I lost myself.
And roamed in the crowded mist,
And heard lost voices and saw lost looks,
As I pored on an Old School List.

What a jumble of names! there were some that I knew,
As a brother is known: to-day
Gone I know not where, nay I hardly care,
For their places are full: and, they--
What climes they have ranged: how much they're changed!
Time, place and pursuits assist
In transforming them: stay where you are: adieu!
You are all in the Old School List.

There are some who did nothing at school, much since:
And others much then, since naught:
They are middle-aged men, grown bald since then:
Some have travelled, and some have fought:
And some have written, and some are bitten
With strange new faiths: desist
From tracking them: broker or priest of prince,
They are all in the Old School List.

There's a grave grey lawyer in King's Bench Walk,
Whose clients are passing few:
He seldom speaks: in those lonely weeks,
What on earth can he find to do?
Well, he stroked the eight -- what a splendid fate!--
And the Newcastle barely missed:
"A future Lord Chancellor!" so we'd talk
In the days of the old School List.

There were several duffers and several bores,
Whose faces I've half forgot,
Whom I lived among, when the world was young,
And who talked "no end of rot":
Are they now little clerks who stroll in the Parks
Or scribble with grimy fist,
Or rich little peers who hire Scotch moors?
Well -- they're all in the old School List.

There were some who were certain to prosper and thrive,
And certain to do no more,
Who were "capital chaps," and, tho' moderate saps,
Would never stay in after four:
Now day after day they are packed away,
After being connubially kissed,
To work in the city from ten to five:
There they are in the old School List.

There were two good fellows I used to know.
--How distant it all appears!
We played together in football weather,
And messed together for years:
Now one of them's wed, and the other's dead
So long that he's hardly missed
Save by us, who messed with him years ago:
But we're all in the old School List.

Mike Leigh encourages you to choose a person that you know to base your character on. You write a whole list of people that you know and you go through that list in great depth with him. And then he chooses one of those people from your list.

Top 500 Recipes

Out of all of the recipes listed,
I may have heard of a couple of them.
The rest?
I've never heard any of them mentioned before,
In my entire life.
Why is that? And none represent what I like.

'This is 'my' top 500 recipes.
If you want your own on a list,
Create it to do as you wish to interpret.
Otherwise,
Sample a taste of my offerings...
Or ignore them.'

Love your enemies!

Should an enemy be in the friend's list?
Should an enemy be in the ban's list?
When the enemy is in the friend's list,
Either the enemy is dubious or a friend,
When the friend is in the Ban's list,
Either the friend is dubious or a foe,
When that famous enemy of someone,
Was listed in the friend's list of the same,
How many of you shocked and never asked?
As a vocal person, I never raise my voice against abuse,
As I am still confused with the traits of the artists,
Who are good at acting as predators and victims.

This Aint It

Theres something funny bout the two of us
We never fight, ah we never fuss
We just cant get enough if you get my drift
Yeah from what Ive heard about love, this aint it
I make you laugh and you make me smile
We stay together and go in style
Things get a little bit wild everytime we kiss
So from what Ive heard about love, this aint it
Cuz love can break your heart Ive heard
Drive you to drinkin crazy or worse
Talk about trouble, love is at the top of the list
But girl you know we fit like a glove
Were side by side when push comes to shove
From what Ive heard about love, this aint it
Ive seen it in the movies, read it in the books
Hearts goin under everywhere you look
Fires burning out, but baby me and you
Were the exception to the rule
Cuz love can break your heart Ive heard
Drive you to drinkin crazy or worse
Talk about trouble, love is at the top of the list
But girl you know we fit like a glove
Were side by side when push comes to shove
From what Ive heard about love, this aint it
Yeah from what Ive heard about love, this aint it yeah
Yeah from what Ive heard about love
No from what Ive heard about love
Yeah from what Ive heard about love no no this aint it

A Popularity Had Is So Passé

A popularity had is so passé
Like a trasition from one fad to another,
That eventually goes away.

For some it is nice to be the one adored.
Until the reality of becoming a bore to ignore,
Hits one that faces a closing of a door.

A popularity had is so passé .
Here today...
And 'maybe' tomorrow.
But never coming for anyone,
To sit and visit with hints of it to stay.

Anything or anyone once given it,
Gives it up one day.
A popularity had is so passé.

0264 Toothpaste tubes and toilet seats

Why do I hate you? Let me count the ways...

Oh I could list them.... but no - not the trivialities
that drive us into impotent blind rage
committed daily by our partners, children, (parents?) , room-mates -
I, you, we, all have that list...

but I sing the joyous list of so-called 'minor' poets
who simply spell out, so uproariously
our petty human weaknesses,
domestic inadequacies, all the idiot joy
of living together while apart...

poets who'll never be on someone else's list
of 'ground-breaking' avant-garde great names
who with new neighbourings of words and sounds
expand humanity's poetic vision of the tears of things;
map out the undiscovered mind of years that are yet to be -

no - poets who, living all our lives for us,
confirm, with smiling banal truisms, this comedy,
our shared humanity; humans being humans;
wishing that we might change, but not too soon, not yet...

and as we smile and groan as poets with their skills
list that familiar daily stress and strain -
the still, mad music of humanity -
love arises.

Gratefully Not Available

No thanks!
Scratch me off your list.
No matter where I appear on it.

You call...
After all these years.
To have a confrontation,
Or to leave me in tears?
Which is it?

A call to see how I am doing?
To ask who I am screwing of late?
What audacity you have,
To think I am here waiting?
I'm surprise you're still alive!
I have no intentions to return to your jive.

No thanks!
Scratch me off your list.
No matter where I appear on it.

I am doing well.
And I hope you are too.
I have no animosity in my heart for you.
I have gone on with my life...
Inspired and motivated.
Is that what you do?

You want us to discuss what went wrong?
You want us to reconnect,
To make what you left stronger...
From your point of view?
You must be crazed to believe those days,
With you I wish to relive.
To raise more havoc I rid from myself...
To invite back with you to live?
You're nuts!

No thanks!
Scratch me off your list.
No matter where I appear on it.
And no matter what thoughts you had,
And still have of me...
I appreciate your call.
However...
Erase from your mind,
Any memories you believe I still cherish.

No thanks!
Scratch me off your list.
No matter where I appear on it.
In fact...
Burn it!
And connect this to your mind:
'For you there is not time!
It has gone.
And I am gratefully not available! '

The Cutter's Suicide List

My friend Kayla Szpytek wrote this poem. She never thought her poems were good enough, but I took it upon myself to write some of them here for her.

She wrote his name upon her wrist
Did all the things from her suicide list

The cutter's suicide list reads,

Get a razor
Get a gun
Won't be long
'Till the job is done
Cut the veins
Blow the brains
Never again
Will it be the same
Shards of glass
Blood everywhere
Nobody notices
Nobody cares
Bath of blood
Shower stained
1,2,3
Let's play a game
Gun, razor, glass, blood
Her final closure
The list is complete, her pain.......finally over.

Those Into Titles

Well...
It's not like you are without options.
Remember that time,
You said to yourself...
'I wish I could just scream? '
Do it!
Scratch that off of your wish list!

'I'm so sick of the same routine! '
Comments like this...
You can now store among your memoirs!
Chances are you are finding 'that'
As a complaint.
Not today.

'You would think I was the only one in the office!
They act as if I'm the only one there half the time.'

Things are rapidly changing.
Have you called 'the office' lately?
You may discover,
No one is there on a full time basis now.

Well...
It's not like you are without options.
Remember that time,
You said to yourself...
'I wish I could just scream? '
Do it!
Scratch that off of your wish list!

I remember some years ago...
Being 'downsized'.
From a position that was being outsourced.
And offered a severance.

We were all ecstatic then!
Having never heard these terms before.

'Thank God we aren't being laid off.'
Some were heard to say.

Today...
Some folks are given two hours or less,
To clean out their desks.
And vacate the premises!

Can you imagine getting ready for work,
And the phone rings!
You answer pleasantly not wanting to be late!
You do not even say hello when you hear...
'You've been terminated.
No need to come in.
We will mail your personal things...
Plus a 'thank you' from management,
For the many years of your loyal service!
Your pink slip was mailed yesterday.
Keep your eye open!
Have a great day.'

It's been two days now.
And you 'still' have your mouth open!
Unbelieving.

Believe!

Some folks historically denied employment,
Were called shiftless and lazy.

I'm sure new terms will be introduced,
To accomodate those preferring to be considered...
As 'freelancing socialists' for a brighter tomorrow!
Those into titles.

My Canadian Chronicles 31

Everywhere I go I make lists
of things I have to do when I get home.
Something on my list raises a smile,
but none ever gets a frown.
While speaking to my friend’s partner Ray
he asked me a question which the answer I did not know.
He wondered if we ever get packets
of Cream of Garlic Soup.
If we did, I would send him some.
Another thing to add my list was night stock.
A pretty little flower with a wonderful perfume
that only blooms at night,
as they don’t get it in Calgary.
I said I would get some seeds and send them as well.
Therefore, my little list grows as each day passes
with things I must do when I get home.

A Honey-Do List (This is my attempt at a Sestina)

I wrote a long honey-do list
and handed it to my husband.
With a smile he read it and with a fold
he stuffed it in his pocket.
I'll get to this as soon as I can,
but can't you hear the cry from the dogs.

Who can't hear the cry of the dogs?
Did you not read my list?
If you won't do it I can,
I said to my loving husband
I took the list from his pocket.
And opened it at the fold.

It was closed with a fold,
because I want to hunt my dogs.
Now return it to my pocket.
I will get to the list,
Said my loving husband.
I'll get to it when I can.

I'm doing the best I can,
and he creased it at the fold.
Cried out my loving husband,
you know I love my dogs.
I'll get around to this list
and returned it to his pocket.

With my fingers I tapped the pocket,
maybe you can't but I can,
dropp you from my list.
Grabbing me he did fold
me in his arms like he does his dogs.
I am your loving husband.

I promise you said my loving husband,
with a hand on his heart across his pocket
I love you more than my dogs
I'll get to you when I can
Please return me to your fold
Because you know you head my list

Thirty-two dogs and one husband
added to my list and stuffed in a pocket
Enjoy it while I can and iron out our differences at the fold.

Bucket List (To Die A Happy Man)

I keep a list of things to do,
A simple list before I'm through
I have them numbered on both hands
To die a happy man

Sail down the Nile on a barge
Free fall for a mile from the stars
Parachute from an aeroplane
Have coffee with an honest man

Oh, to die a happy man

See Antarctica in spring
Gain the trust of a beautiful woman
Walk the dark side of the moon
Meet a legend of music, craft out a tune

Oh, to die a happy man

Buy a comfortable pair of shoes
See Machu Pichu's views
And drive through Paris unharmed
Oh, to die a happy man

Oh, to die a happy man

I keep a list of things to do,

High On The List

Why isn't accountability,
High on the list.
Why isn't responsibility,
High on the list.
And,
How come denials done...
At the top of that list,
With...
Excuses made,
Along
With
It.

Why isn't integrity,
High on the list.
Or...
A dignity believed,
High on the list.
And,
Why is it that good things done
No where to exist.
While those vicious and the envious...
Dance and do high kicks.

Why isn't accountability,
High on the list.
Why isn't responsibility,
High on the list.
And,
Why is it that good things done
No where to exist...

The List

Theres a little room on my list for tonight
Will ya be the one to fill it in
Toss around what is up, what is down
In between, would ya like to dream
Step on in, ya dont have to play to win
But then you might
Theres a little song on my list for tonight
Would ya like to try and make it rhyme
Sing and sway, if your heart feel that way
We can leave the blues behind
Theres a little lovin on my list tonight
With a bit of luck, Ill check it off
Toss around what is up, what is down
In between, d ya know what I mean
Rain, rain all day long
Youve made it pay, you can do no wrong tonight
Pick and grin, ya dont have to play to win
But then you might
Thick and thin, ya dont have to play to win
But then you might
Theres a little room on my list for tonight
Will ya be the one to fill it in
Toss around what is up, what is down
In between, would ya like to dream
Step on in, ya dont have to play to win

Planting a kiss on the wrong cheek

Great gathering
Welcome speech
Presidential address
Special speakers
All praises
Laurels won
List of achievements
List of benefits to the society
Nature and number of beneficiaries
The vision
The mission
The efforts
The perseverance
The compassion
At the end of it all
A shield
A medallion
A citation
A cash award
The recipient
Thanked all
And added
All the good words said of me
Were possible
Because of the contribution
Showered on me
By the nature
By the people working with me
Or for me
By the people who participated in my programmes
By the people who were benefited
By the assistance and help from so many others

I feel this appreciation is like
Planting a kiss on the wrong cheek
