Bridging The Gap
[Nas talking]
"The light is there."
[Intro: Olu Dara singing]
See I come from Mississippi
I was young and runnin' wild
Ended up in New York City, where I had my first child
I named the boy Nasir, all the boys call him Nas
I told him as a youngster, he'll be the greatest man alive
[Verse 1: Nas]
Let's go!... Hey-Hey-Hey-Hey --
Tribrary of these rap skits, styles I mastered
Many brothers snatched it up and tried to match it
But I'm still number one, everyday real
Speak what I want, I don't care what y'all feel
'Cause I'm my own master, my Pop told me be your own boss
Keep integrity at every cost, and his home was Natchez Mississippi
Did it like Miles and Dizzy, now we gettin' busy
Bridging The Gap from the blues, to jazz, to rap
The history of music on this track
Born in the game, discovered my father's music
Like Prince searchin' through boxes of Purple Rain
But my Minneapolis was The Bridge, home of the Superkids
Some are well-known, some doin' bids
I mighta ended up on the wrong side of the tracks
If Pops wouldn't've pulled me back an said yo
[Olu Dara singing]
Greatest man alive (Nas: Yeah, turn it up!)
Gre-Gre-Gre-Gre-Greatest man alive!
[Verse 2: Nas]
The blues came from gospel, gospel from blues
Slaves are harmonizin' them ah's and ooh's
Old school, new school, know school rules
All these years I been voicin' my blues
I'm a artist from the start, Hip-Hop guided my heart
Graffiti on the wall, coulda ended in Spoffard, juvenile delinquent
But Pops gave me the right type'a tools to think with
Books to read, like X and stuff
'Cause the schools said the kids had dyslexia
In art class I was a compulsive sketcher of
Teachers in my homeroom, I drew pix to mess them up
'Cause none'a them would like my style
Read more books than the curriculum profile
Said, "Mr. Jones please come get your child
'Cause he's writin' mad poems and his verses are wild"
[Olu Dara singing]
Greatest man ? The great-greatest man alive
[Verse 3: Nas]
Hey-Hey-Hey -- My Poppa was not a Rollin' Stone
He been around the world blowin' his horn, still he came home
Then he got grown, changed his name to Olu
Come on, tell 'em 'bout the places you gone to
[Olu Dara singing]
I been to Saudi Arabia, Mozambique
Madagascar, Paris, Greece
The Middle Africa is where we lived
Better known as Queenbridge
[Nas]
Nas, Nas you don't stop
Olu Dara in the house, you don't stop
Muddy Waters' Howling Wolf you don't stop
From the Blues to Street Hop you don't stop
Tell 'em Pop
[Outro: Olu Dara singing / Nas adlibbing]
See I come from Mississippi (Let 'em know)
I was young and runnin' wild (Runnin' wild)
Ended up in New York City (Yeah!)
Where I had my first child (That's me)
I named the boy Nasir (Yeah, Daddy!)
All the boys call him Nas (Luh ya, boy)
I told him as a youngster
He'll be the greatest man alive (You the greatest, Pop)
Greatest man alive (You the greatest, Pop)
Gre-Gre-Gre-Gre-Greatest man alive!
Rest In Peace Ray Charles

Ratfinks, Suicide Tanks And Cannibal Girls
I black the temper, yeah
Never seen the face of truth
Sweet Mr. Jesus, yeah
Infected on my skin
Deep mist around you, yeah
I'm crawling on the side
Sheep for another, yeah
Another taste of life
It's alive, yeah everybody
It's alive, who will stop me?
It's alive, yeah everybody
It's alive, who will stop me?
Dead barks around you, yeah
Crawl in a river black
I creep and crawl here, yeah
He's falling on the floor
Out with another, yeah
A killing wall of sound
Say that you love it, yeah
Don't make me turn it down
It's alive, yeah everybody
It's alive, who will stop me?
It's alive, yeah everybody
It's alive, who will stop me?
Born to kill, yeah
Black, blue and bloody fingers
Hong Kong head, yeah
Who's gonna face this wheel
Now tell me smooth, yeah
I'll tell the pussycats
An ultra-pain, yeah
I'll blow it all away
It's alive, yeah everybody
It's alive, who will stop me?

You Are the Greatest
You are the greatest
My love you are the greatest
You make all things beautiful
To me your love is wonderful
Thou feedest me
When i am hungry
Giveth me waters
To quench my thirst
You put me first
Encourage me to be the best
You are the greatest
My love you are the greatest
You visited me
When i was in jail
You encouraged me to be
The head not the tail
You are the reason
I did not fail
You are the greatest
My love you are the greatest
You are my motivation
My source of power generation
Oh my savor
You are my heart desire
Truly you are my lover
May you live forever
You are the greatest
My love you are the greatest

Hall Of Mirrors
The young man stepped into the hall of mirrors
Where he discovered a reflection of himself
Even the greatest stars discover themselves in the looking glass
Even the greatest stars discover themselves in the looking glass
Sometimes he saw his real face
And sometimes a stranger at his place
Even the greatest stars find their face in the looking glass
Even the greatest stars find their face in the looking glass
He fell in love with the image of himself
and suddenly the picture was distorted
Even the greatest stars dislike themselves in the looking glass
Even the greatest stars dislike themselves in the looking glass
He made up the person he wanted to be
And changed into a new personality
Even the greatest stars change themselves in the looking glass
Even the greatest stars change themselves in the looking glass
The artist is living in the mirror
With the echoes of himself
Even the greatest stars live their lives in the looking glass
Even the greatest stars live their lives in the looking glass
Even the greatest stars fix their face in the looking glass
Even the greatest stars fix their face in the looking glass
Even the greatest stars live their lives in the looking glass
Even the greatest stars live their lives in the looking glass

The Greatest Sex
From beyond this bed of mine I see
Ceiling fans with you on top of me
And the window blinds are filled with rays of sun
And all you secret fantasies thy will be done (done)
And inside of your walls there will dwell a Capricorn
(that will feast your body all night)
If we keep this up then a love child will be born
All because
Of the greatest
[chorus]
The greatest you
The greatest me
We have found the greatest chemistry
The greatest touch
The greatest kiss
What came to be is the greatest wish
The greatest show
The greatest song
The greatest words
The greatest all night long
Baby your love stays constantly on my mind
This is the best sex I've ever had
I know twelve ways to make your love come down
And the secret places on you will be found
Like a voyage when the storm begins to roar
There's no telling what this night could have in store (in store)
Cause inside of your walls there will dwell a capricorn
(that will feast your body all night)
And if we keep this up then a love child will be born
All because
Of the greatest
[chorus]
The greatest you
The greatest me
We have found the greatest chemistry
The greatest touch

What came to be is the greatest wish
The greatest show
The greatest song
The greatest words
The greatest all night long
Baby your love stays constantly on my mind
This is the best sex I've ever had
[repeat 3x]
Something that happened out the day for the sake of our love
Like a hand and glove we go together this love is forever oooh
This sex is so good I've got to break it down

The Greatest Love Of All
Some men seek solace
Some take to drink
Some men find knowledge, yeah
At least thats what they think
Some take to violence
Streamlining their dreams
Some sit in silence
And learn what love can mean
Much further to go
Much further to crawl
But one day youll find
The greatest love of all
The greatest love of all
The greatest love of all
The load is tough
The path is long
Strewn with rocks, yeah
But youd be wrong, so wrong
One single spark
Can start a prairie fire
When one man speaks truth
He fills this world with pure desire
Much further to go
Much further to crawl
But one day youll find
The greatest love of all
The greatest love of all
The greatest love of all
One day united
One day free
Youll be rewarded
The one true path is unity
Fruit dont fall
Too far from the tree
One day well bathe
In true humility
Much further for truth
Much further to fall
I pray that youll find
The greatest love of all
The greatest love of all
The greatest love of all

Im The Greatest
When I was a little boy,
Way back home in liverpool,
My mama told me, I was great.
Then when I was a teenager,
I knew that I had got something going,
All my friends told me I was great.
And now Im a man,
A woman took me by the hand,
And you know what she told me...i was great.
I was in the greatest show on earth,
For what it was worth.
Now Im only thirty-two;
And all I wanna do, is boogaloo!
Hey!
I looked in the mirror,
I saw my wife and kids,
And you know what they told me...i was great.
Yes, my name is billy shears,
You know it has been for so many years.
Now Im only thirty-two;
And all I wanna do, is boogaloo!
Hey, hey, hey, (hey, hey, hey) yeah!
(hey, hey, hey)
Im the greatest and you better believe it, baby!
Ho! ho! ho!
Im gonna be the greatest in this world, (ho!)
In the next world and in any world! (hey!)
Alright, alright, alright, alright, alright, alright,
Alright, alright, alright, alright, alright, alright.
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, all right!

The Greatest Romance Ever Sold
The greatest romance thats ever been sold
So what do u know, u and me
Finally face 2 face
Checking each other up and down
In all of the obvious places
Was there ever a reason 4 us 2 be apart?
The air that fills up this room says, not hardly
So this is where u end, and u and I begin ...
(thats where u and i, u and I begin)
The greatest romance thats ever been sold
The greatest romance thats ever been sold
Baby, baby
Now your mind is open
2 poetry seldom heard
Ur heart has never been broken
Until uve heard these words:
Your body was designed 2 respond 2 mine
In spite of your desire 2 mold me
And in the middle of it all -
We kiss and like rain (like rain) we fall into ...
The greatest romance thats ever been sold
The greatest romance thats ever been sold
Oh, I know u can feel me,know that u can dance
But what do you know about the greatest romance?
Not what u think, but what u believe
What was the real reason that adam never left eve?
And if the truth sounds like a memory
Then u know it was meant to be (meant 2 be), meant 2 be
Leave your inhibitions behind come on, come on, and see
So this is where u end (this is where u end)
And u and I begin ... (u-hu)
The greatest romance thats ever been sold
The greatest romance thats ever been sold
I know u can feel, I know that u can dance
But what do you know about the greatest romance?
(the greatest romance ...)
Not what u think, but what u believe
Can u tell me the reason (reason) that adam never left eve?
(the greatest (greatest) romance (romance) ...)
Listen 2 me
(... thats ever been sold)
U brought me
The grapes from the vine, yes u did
(the greatest romance ...)
Can I talk 2 u
(... thats ever been sold)
Listen
U help me 2 remember the secrets of time
And u - u - u, u offer me your love, your love, your love
So divine
And in return, girl, in return I will surrender
Oh yeah, I will surrender, oh yes, I will
The greatest romance thats ever been sold

These Are The Poems That Only I Am
THESE ARE THE POEMS THAT ONLY I AM
These are the poems that only I am
They are not the greatest poems
But they are the poems that only I am
I would have them be more than they are
But they are not-
They are what I have
What I can give
Not the best
Not the greatest
Not the ones which will give greatest delight and greatest insight and greatest beauty and greatest- anything
They are what I am -
How modest of me to be so disappointed with what I am
And all I am not.

Right next to my bed
He doesnt know me
But I sure know him
I cant get him out of my head, no

No no
I havent even tried
He doesnt even know that Im alive, no
He doesnt even know that Im alive

Someday Ill find the nerve
To talk to him and stop acting so preserved
I told myself girl you gotta change
cause nothing ventured is nothing gained
No-oh woah
Late last evening
I dropped on by
Just to see if he was home
And when he opened the door
I could have died
There we were all alone
(talk to him)
I said excuse me I thought my friend lived here
Well he doesnt even know that Im alive
(he doesnt know that Im alive)
He doesnt even know that Im alive
He doesnt even know that Im alive
(he doesnt know that Im alive)
He doesnt even know
(he doesnt know)
Ooh
Im alive
No no, no no

Ooh ooh yeah, no woah

Before I heard your voice I never heard a sound like that before
I wanna hear it more and more
Take me to heaven
My love is stronger than the wall
Ill climb it till I fell so I can hear you call your love

cause I can say I got the greatest girl
Id be the greatest man in the world
