Deceives The Eye
In the earliest days of my shoplifting career,
You could safely say I was filled with fear.
It was nail biting work from the very start,
But several quick sucesses soon gave me heart.
After a while I could pick or nick or steal,
Some shirts some trousers and a few LPs.
No-one ever stopped me, they didn't seem to care.
It sometimes seemed to me that there was no-one there.
Then a fine summers day my mates and me,
Set off down the westend on our usual spree.
Things were as normal for an hour or so,
Then my nimble hands were a bit too slow.
Two store detectives made a fast approach,
One grabbed my jacket (you're nicked!)
The other grabbed my throat.
So they caught me at last, one said with joy:

Youll have to do some time, my light fingered boy!
If only Id remembered my common sense,
They captured me red-handed with evidence.
If I go to the manager and say Im sorry,
Maybe hell forgive me for my youthful folly.
But what will me social worker say,
If I dont come home today?
Hell give me a clout!
What if they dont let me out?
I told him Im on me own!
Dont they understand?
Im from a broken home!
Ill tell them Im the product of a broken home,
And I always went out on my own.
Was it too late to say Id pay,
And Ill never steal again till the end of my days?
Because I have no friends to call as such,
Money and posessions I did not have much,
So I started to steal in order to get by.
The quickness of the hand deceives the eye.
Deceives the eye the eye the eye...

Tiger By The Tail
What a shock it was so surprising
You looked so small and frail
I didnt know what to do
I grabbed the tiger by the tail
I grabbed the tiger by the tail
I grabbed the tiger by the tail
People said that you must be joking
You let emotions run away with you
I realized a little too late
I bit off more than I could chew
I grabbed the tiger by the tail
I grabbed the tiger by the tail
Sometimes you grip it right
And sometimes you fail
I grabbed the tiger by the tail
I grabbed the tiger by the tail
I grabbed the tiger by the tail
At times life can be so enlightening
But it can turn on you
Lately it gets so complicated i
I dont know what the tiger will do
I grabbed the tiger by the tail
I grabbed the tiger by the tail
Sometimes you grip it right
And sometimes you fail
I grabbed the tiger by the tail
I grabbed the tiger by the tail
I grabbed the tiger by the tail
Sometimes you grip it right
And sometimes you fail
I grabbed the tiger by the tail

The Steal Of The Night
The band had just started when they walked in the door
He sat her at a table and strolled out on the floor
He grabbed the first sweet thang that gave him the eye
And left the door open for the steal of the night
Three dances later she was still in her chair
He was still on the dance floor like he didnt care
So I eased on over, there was no ring in sight
And I found myself facing the steal of the night.
(chorus)
She was the steal of the night,
Oh yeah, she was the steal of the night
He long hair flowing and her jeans so tight
I held her close and it felt so right
She was the steal of the night
Oh yeah, she was the steal of the night
He left her lonely and the pickings were right
She was the steal of the night
We danced every slow one the band could play
Was it ever this easy for ole jesse james
Had the gold in my hands and the banker was blind
Just inches away from the steal of the night
When the band stopped playing we walked to the car
As I closed the door he ran out of the bar
Saw him shaking his fist under the parking lot light
As I strolled away with the steal of the night
(repeat chorus)
(repeat chorus and fade out)

The One That Got Away!
I tried! I tried! I tried my best! The words I can't recall...
I know those words were truly blessed, they were incredible!
They came within a midnight dream! I'm here at 1 a.m.
My pleasant mood became extreme, 'I can't remember them! '
The dream began and she passed by, my Muse with words so wise...
At first, her beauty made me sigh, with smiles that filled my eyes!
I tried to write the poem down... I thought I caught each verse...
She spoke so fast I had to frown, things went from bad to worse!
When I woke up, some words remained, just fragments, nothing more,
Just phrases from the poem gained my Muse chose to outpour...
But then a haze dwelt in my mind... A scrabbling for the rest...
But finally I couldn't find the words that made me blessed!
Then anger flooded in my heart! A river full of rage...
Although I tried to make a start, I hadn't filled the page...
I prayed to God! 'Please help me, Lord! Don't let this poem fade! '
But silence fell, I stood ignored, forlorn, bereft, dismayed...
That's when I grabbed the negative and turned it all around!
I gave it all that I could give, new poems to astound!
I wrote all day, I wrote all night, a hundred poem's done!
Forget my Muse! I did all right! Boy, what a marathon!

Watching The Detectives
Nice girls not one with a defect
Cellophane shrink-wrapped so correct
Red dogs under illegal legs
She looks so good that he gets down and begs
She is watching the detectives, oh hes so cute
She is watching the detectives
When they shoot shoot shoot shoot.
They beat him up until the teardrops start.
But he cant be wounded cos hes got no heart
Long shot of that jumping sign
Visible shivers running down my spine
Cut the baby taking off her clothes
Close-up of the sign that says we never close
You snatch a tune, you match a cigarrette.
She pulls the eyes out with a face like a magnet
I dont know how much more of this I can take
She filing her finger nails while theyre dragging the lake
(chorus)
Now you think youre alone until you realize youre in it
Now fear is here to stay love is here for a visit.
They call it instant justice when its past the legal limit.
Someones scratching at the window. I wonder who is it?
The detectives come to check if you belong to the parents
Who are ready to hear the worst about their daughters disappearance.
Though it nearly took a miracle to get you to stay
It only took my little fingers to blow you away
Just like watching the detectives. dont get cute
Its just like watching the detectives.
I get so angry when the tear-drops start
But he cant be wounded cause hes got no heart.
Watching the detectives.
Its just like watching the detectives.
Watching the detectives.
Watching the detectives.

Intermission
If the world should end, and we both die tonight.
Id have no more time to say the things I might.
Had I known that this last hour would come so soon.
Id have spent the last year speaking just to you.
And theyd be awkward all the things I would have said.
And thats the reason they have not been spoken yet.
But they mean too much to let them go unheard.
Even if I cannot really find the words.
Everyones moving
Im standing still
I stand frozen, stooped in headlights and I watch.
As fate rolls up near and strikes me where Im stopped.
So I look as all Ive wished for fades away.
Because fear grabbed a hold and kept me stuck in place.
But now I swear to everyone Ive broken free.
And most of all to you I vow to be
The best of everything which I know that I can.
Because now Im sure Ill always understand.
Times never frozen
I will move on

Attached To Happy
I've got my heart unwrapped from being sad...
And,
I'm Happy!
I've got my heart unwrapped from being sad...
And,
I'm Happy!
You've got to notice cause my motive is to flaunt it too.
After all the nonsense I've been through!
I've got my heart unwrapped from being sad,
And...
I am,
Happy!
I've got my heart unwrapped from being sad,
And...
I am,
Happy!
I hope it shows,
That I'm happy.
This side of ecstatic,
Keeps me happy.
I hope it shows,
That I'm happy.
This side of ecstatic,
Keeps me happy.
I've got my heart unwrapped from being sad,
And...
I am,
Happy!
I've got my heart unwrapped from being sad,
And...
I am,
Happy!
I've got my heart unwrapped,
And I'm happy!
With a glad I grabbed it back!
I've got my heart unwrapped,
And I'm happy!
With a glad I grabbed it back!
I've got my heart unwrapped,
And I'm happy!
I've got my heart unwrapped,
And I'm happy!
I've got my heart unwrapped,
And I'm happy!
With a glad I grabbed it back!
I'm glad I grabbed it back!
Attached to happy.
And I'm glad I grabbed it back!
Attached to happy.
So glad I grabbed it back!
Attached to happy.
I'm glad I grabbed it back!

Change Of Weather
September came along
and brought with it
a change of weather.
The humid days
were suddenly cold and windy.
A few, very nice, cool, fall days,
managed to slip in,
even though it wasn’t quite fall yet.
So, as I do every September,
I emptied out my closet of
t-shirts, and short sleeved shirts.
With all that room in there
I decided to fill it with my winter shirts,
even though I didn’t need them, just yet.
And don’t you know,
I got caught again?
No sooner did I get the summer shirts away
and the winter ones out -
what happens?
There’s a change of weather.
The warmer days kicked in again.
I sure can use those t-shirts now.
But, I’ve got them packed away,
and away they’ll stay.
This is the time of year
when the weather doesn’t know
if it wants to be warm, cool or cold.
Well, I can always roll up the sleeves
on the long sleeved shirts, should I need to.
With changes of weather
as it is these days,
I’d rather play it safe.
Why Now? ?
Many purpose, didn't you reject?
My eagerness to meet you, didn't you neglect?
Only once a day you call, my call u won't answer
I pick your call but u talk like u r in mood: anger
Said you never loved me or gave a damn care
Even if I die, bleed till death or cry many tear
It really looked like u were not lying..
Shouted at me n you stopped calling..
After few days, then you suddenly call
Just because you saw me in hospital
Now tell me why did you call, me? ? ?
While before you said u don't care or love me? ?

What I Hate About Reunions
people always keep
recalling my old shape
and they always give
reminders
change your lifestyle
as though telling me
that i must stop writing
poetry and start
jogging the earliest hour
of the morning
which is my only hour
for reflection
ah, work too much work
rushing rushing blood in my veins
the man is right
it is time to slow down a bit
and savor
the scent of the moon
at night
with my beloved.

For A While
Saturday, slept through the morning
Just let the phone ring, now isn't that strange
I watched cartoons, poor ole' coyote
Someone had a worse day than me for a change
And it made me happy
It made me smile
For a while
You always said my friends are all crazy
Baby here lately it seems I fit in
We go out just like the old days
Try to find new ways to go there again
And it makes me happy
It makes me smile
For a while
Everythings just fine
A little ray of sunshine
I didn't feel the fault line running straight through my heart
I didn't think about you
I didn't come unglued
It's a temporary undo but it's a start
It's a start
Late at night I write my own movies
And I am the star, when I close my eyes
Except I look at Julia Roberts
And you're just the poor jerk that I walk on by
And it makes me happy
It makes me smile
For a while
Everythings just fine
A little ray of sunshine
I didn't feel the fault line running straight through my heart
I didn't think about you
I didn't come unglued
It's a temporary undo but it's a start
Little victories, I'll take 'em
Everythings just fine
A little ray of sunshine
I didn't feel the fault line running straight through my heart
I didn't think about you
I didn't come unglued
It's a temporary undo but it's a start
It's a start

Didn't I
I didn't realise that you were someone else
Until it was too late
So fooled by your disguise, carried away
I thought you were my friend
But things change and you along with them
Gone are the days when we laughed through the night
And it will never be the same
I said it wouldn't last forever didn't I, didn't I
Don't want to say I told you so but didn't I
I gave you all my heart and soul and didn't I cry
Bus somewhere deep in your heart, deep down inside
I got to you
Oh baby didn't I
We made no promises, we lived for every moment
Together come what may
What need was there to lie, for heaven's sake
I love you anyway
But things change and time heals the wounded
Where there was pain there's a scar on my heart
Now I can't look at you the same
I said it wouldn't last forever didn't I, didn't I
Don't want to say I told you so but didn't I
I gave you all my heart and soul and didn't I cry
Bus somewhere deep in your heart, deep down inside
I got to you
Oh baby didn't I

One Last Walk
As I sit all alone in my concrete cell,
I think about how my life was hell
I grew up abused by my step-dad,
Dreams of better days were all that I had.
Till that day he hit my mom,
I could not take it, it was like a bomb.
I went to the closet and grabbed a gun,
I went to his room to have some fun.
All I wanted was to scare him straight,
I was tired of all the constant hate.
“I love my mom, ” I said to him,
“You’re not my father, I hate you, Jim.”
He got mad with this endless rage,
He said, “Drop the gun and back to your cage.”
He jumped at me and grabbed the gun,
I shot him and then all I could do was run.
The cops were called and I was found,
They took me in and hands were bound.
They put me on trial for murder first degree,
The jury can back and all agree.
That I must die for my crime,
I’m only a kid; I’ll never see my prime.
I’m all alone and I sit and cry,
For there is one last walk before I die.

There's a cat in my hat
'There's a cat in my hat'
I needed to go to the store the other day,
I was in a big hurry, no time to play,
I grabbed my wallet, my keys, and my hat,
and reached down to pet my friendly old cat
The traffic was bad, cars going fast,
took me forever, but I got there at last,
picked up some milk, some butter, some cheese,
grabbed for my hanky as I started to sneeze
I got into line it was terribly long,
I daydreamed a while, recalling a song,
the man at the checkout was starring at me,
I wondered what, what it could be
He said 'something is wrong' there's a tail from your hat,
I patted my head 'I said it's just my old cat',
he looked at me funny so I said to him,
his name is Fluffy, but I call him Jim
He likes to go with me wherever I go,
and I like him with me he puts on a show,
he pats my nose and licks on my head,
he's more than a cat he's my best friend I said
some may think I'm silly for sure,
but I have a hard time walking out of that door,
without my wallet, my keys to my flat,
but most of all my cat in my hat

Quick Is The Beat Of My Heart
Written by lewis mark
Lead vocals by james young
If its my time to die today
Please God oh make it fast
Balanced on this point for a year and half
I just dont think I can last
Theres a man whos laid to rest
The man who gave me my start
I wish I could quit but I cant and its rough
Quick is the beat of my heart
Quick is the beat of my heart
So please all you people
Dont you grieve for me
The blood in my veins is black and I cant bleed
Ive suffered the pain
And all I can face is the dark
Oh, lord, quick is the beat of my heart
Quick is the beat of my heart
Now my bags are almost packed
The trains about to depart
I wish I could quit but I cant and its rough
Quick is the beat of my heart
Quick is the beat of my heart
Quick is the beat of my heart
Quick is the beat of my heart
Quick is the beat of my heart
Quick is the beat of my heart
If its my time to die...

The Old Man Of The Sea
A NIGHTMARE DREAM BY DAYLIGHT
Do you know the Old Man of the Sea, of the Sea?
Have you met with that dreadful old man?
If you have n't been caught, you will be, you will be;
For catch you he must and he can.
He does n't hold on by your throat, by your throat,
As of old in the terrible tale;
But he grapples you tight by the coat, by the coat,
Till its buttons and button-holes fail.
There's the charm of a snake in his eye, in his eye,
And a polypus-grip in his hands;
You cannot go back, nor get by, nor get by,
If you look at the spot where he stands.
Oh, you're grabbed! See his claw on your sleeve, on your sleeve!
It is Sinbad's Old Man of the Sea!
You're a Christian, no doubt you believe, you believe
You're a martyr, whatever you be!
Is the breakfast-hour past? They must wait, they must wait,
While the coffee boils sullenly down,
While the Johnny-cake burns on the grate, on the grate,
And the toast is done frightfully brown.
Yes, your dinner will keep; let it cool, let it cool,
And Madam may worry and fret,
And children half-starved go to school, go to school;
He can't think of sparing you yet.
Hark! the bell for the train! 'Come along! Come along!
For there is n't a second to lose.'
'ALL ABOARD!' (He holds on.) 'Fsht I ding-dong! Fsht! ding-dong!'--
You can follow on foot, if you choose.
There's a maid with a cheek like a peach, like a peach,
That is waiting for you in the church;--
But he clings to your side like a leech, like a leech,
And you leave your lost bride in the lurch.
There's a babe in a fit,--hurry quick! hurry quick!
To the doctor's as fast as you can!
The baby is off, while you stick, while you stick,
In the grip of the dreadful Old Man!
I have looked on the face of the Bore, of the Bore;
The voice of the Simple I know;
I have welcomed the Flat at my door, at my door;
I have sat by the side of the Slow;
I have walked like a lamb by the friend, by the friend,
That stuck to my skirts like a bur;
I have borne the stale talk without end, without end,
Of the sitter whom nothing could stir.
But my hamstrings grow loose, and I shake, and I shake,
At the sight of the dreadful Old Man;
Yea, I quiver and quake, and I take, and I take,
To my legs with what vigor I can!
Oh the dreadful Old Man of the Sea, of the Sea
He's come back like the Wandering Jew!
He has had his cold claw upon me, upon me,--
And be sure that he'll have it on you!

It Is Raining In Paris
It Is Raining in Paris
Written by: Wilfred Charles Mellers, Thursday, February 23,2012 @ 6: 38 PM
The lights has gone out over Paris
Venus is no more an affectionate zealous
To my adoration I was honest
Promises kept I worked my hardest
Vanished gladness for I've misplaced my heart
The radiance has gone out over the rampart
The sun has gone out today
Hands stretched texture to find my way
Uncertain I am for skies are gray
Gone now are livelier days
Bouncing into obscured walls
Never looked out for the pitfalls
Collapsed into an empty pit
I am no longer quick with the wit
Seldom things remind
Are my eyes inaccessible or am I blind?
So many thoughts run through my mind
My hand separation to sign
Beaten down by the daily grind
So unkind mankind I find
Who cares for the hour draws near
For impending days are filled with fear
Nowhere to run and hide
No love sits by my side
For the love inside has died
I sit and pine for days to rewind
The plans treacherously designed
And to all things combine
The heart pays the heaviest fine

Boyhood
Boyhood Remembered
Mother and her sister played poker when I came out of the bedroom looking
for my trousers, but mother had just lost them to Aunt Gabriella who refused
to give them back. I sat by the coal fire and warmed my knees; winter with frost
roses on windows. Without long trousers I could not go to school, the idea of this
pleased me, I began reading a Robin Hood book. I didn’t care so much for him,
he was in love with a girl, but I liked the other ones in his gang. “Here, ” mother
said, “I have won back your trousers, your shoes as well; go to school now.” I was
going to take the bike out of the shed, but a monster rat sat there.
” Mother” I yelled, “There is a big rat in the shad it is eating the tires off my bike.”
Mother dropped the cat out of the window, from our third floor flat, just caught it.
“Put the cat in the shed, ” walk to school, it is good for you biking makes you lazy.”
My sister came with a crate of beer she had bought at the supermarket, ” you are
just like little girl frighten by a tiny rat, ” she said, took the bike out, put the dazed
cat on top of the crate and walked in. I was one hour late for school, but there was
no use telling the teacher why, he would only say I was telling tales as usual.
