Shield Of Abraham
(kinky friedman)
Jacob climbed the ladder, climbed it to the sky,
Said, people, whats the matter ?
Heaven aint so high,
People, heaven aint so high,
When you got the shield,
You got the shield,
You got the shield,
You got the shield of abraham.
Little children.
You got the shield,
You got the shield,
You got the shield of abraham.
The years were lights they wandered in the desert 40 years
And ol moses told the children
brush away them tears,
Hey, kids, this aint no time for tears.
Children
You got the shield,
You got the shield,
You got the shield of abraham.
Little children.
You got the shield,
You got the shield,
You got the shield of abraham.
David, he fought goliath with nothing but a tiny stone.
David, little david, God knows youre not alone,
God knows youre not alone.
David, you got the shield,
Youve got the shield,
You got the shield of abraham.
Little david.
You got the shield,
You got the shield,
You got the shield of abraham.
Rock and roll redeemer, oh people, hear my song,
And let the music keep us loving, let the spirit keep us strong,
Let your sweet love keep us strong.
cause weve got the shield,
Weve got the shield,
Weve got the shield of abraham.
Little children.
Weve got the shield,
Weve got the shield,
Weve got the shield of abraham.
Weve got the shield,
Weve got the shield,
Weve got the shield of abraham.
Little children.
Weve got the shield,
Weve got the shield,
Weve got the shield ...

Spear Speaks
Cold and wet
Likely birds sang their song
Shield and I – were out
We were out fighting
Through thousands of hearts
Chests and ribs
I went through
A battle so fought
A battle so won
Shield, my Master he protected
It was cool, it was clean
Now, here, rusty we are,
The spoils for Master,
I and Shield

Move home move dust
Go - no shelter will ever deny
Go - no word will ever define
Those who have no home
Away – no hand will wave goodbye
Away – each land is good enough to die
Hide- no hide can bear a naked skin
Hide – the first day to the last is kin
Shield – no word will shield the screams on edge
Shield – no road will cover your silent pledge

Let who will boast their courage in the field, I find but little safety from my shield, Nature's, not honour's law we must obey: This made me cast my useless shield away.

My Shield Will I Lift Up
This week I began to think upon the concept of faith and how it relates to me and my struggle. Most theologians generally define “faith” as: a belief in something sight unseen. John Maxwell states there are 3 kinds of faith that relate to the Christian experience. They are: Faith in our God, Faith in each other and Faith in ourselves. Some of the elements of faith that I have to rely on daily are: That Jesus is the Son of God and sits at the right hand of the Father. That Jesus died for our sins; paying the cost, so we can have eternal life. That God is able to save us from each other; and ourselves. That he loves us and hears our cries(prayers) . After many years of ruining my life by trying to run it myself in my sinful, disobedient way, I finally put my faith in Jesus. As I now reflect back, I began to think of my faith like a heavy Roman shield. A strong, well made shield, one that is founded in belief in Jesus, has a good weight to it and is heavy to lift. It requires a good physical effort and is not easy to hoist up. It must be so, because it has to withstand the onslaught of arrows, flaming or not, that come to a believer daily. Some days I feel like I can’t lift my shield; like the burden is too much to bear. It is in those times when I take peace in the verse Psalm 7: 10. God SAVES the upright in heart! I have faith He will do that, every time I call and without fail.
Thank you God for your promises. May my faith in you increase daily
My Shield Will I Lift Up
a poem by Chris
The money-changer’s hand comes to snatch my coin
But my shield will I lift up.
The flaming arrows seek to destroy
But my shield is God Most High.
A rock was placed to watch me stumble
But my shield I throw aloft.
I keep my heart faithful and humble
For my shield is free from rot.
The valley is dark and the path is narrow
And my shield is my defense.
Thieves they come to seek my marrow
But my shield is quite immense.
When one step further is one too much
My shield blocks the fray.
When to my chest my faith I clutch
my shield knows the way.
So onward and upward to battle I come
Bringing my shield to peril’s door
Having no fear of my enemy’s drum
I hoist the shield once more.

Sword and shield
Each being is born with a sword and shield,
One to hunt with and the other to defend with.
Each action of one springs from either of them
In sex, the sword is wooing and the shield, eluding.

Shield
they call him god
they call him father
they call to him so high above
but god has gone
the pain was just to strong
to see his children forsake him
as they fought war after war
using his name as a shield
these children he did create
full of love and hope
a father wished to know
but laughter turned to screams
his image he made them in
his love he gave them
the children he created
those he called to he
he had a choice
end it all
or walk away
cause the pain was to much
to see his children hurt
as they killed and as they
tore through the lands
of brothers and sisters
with such savagery
so god has gone
his heart does break
at leaving behind these
children of his still at war
using his name as shield

Harvest
Day is the hero's shield,
Achilles' field,
The light days are the angels.
We the seed.
Against eternal light and gorgon's face
Day is the shield
And we the grass
Native to fields of iron, and skies of brass.

Shield
Mama plays a queen on the hill built on a dream
While the children play in the field
Papa smokes the pipe of a sweet and better life
But how strong is the shield?
Can peace be found on the carpet above ground
Where sky is forever blue
So let it pass baby now, the slow and riding cloud
Which may take me from you
Many things a man can lose
His self, his rights, his views
But never his heart or his love
So take this hand of mine and climb baby, climb
To the hill up above
Now you can play a queen on the hill built on a dream
While our children play in the field
I can smoke the pipe of a sweet and better life
And trust in the strength of the shield
So trust in you love, and lucy of above
And let light pass like a wheel
Dont take the chance of lifes hectic dance
Kiss the strength of the shield
The seeker will be found by the looker on the ground
And to his wish he will yield
Fate will have its word, of course (? )
And time will change its course
And hold the strength of the shield

Faith is double edged
Faith is the boat
By which one sails.
It is the same boat
By which one sinks, too.
No-faith is the shield
With which one is secure.
It is the same shield
With which one retreats.
When to have faith
And when to not have it
Is mere a chance
Beyond one’s prediction.

Prayer Prompt Psalm 115. I Put My Thoughts On You
Your presence, O God, gives me confidence
“You are my helper. You are my shield.”
When I am fearful, I put my thoughts on You, alone.
God is alive!
God is our helper!
God is our shield!
We love you, our Lord and our God!
I love you, my Lord and my God!

Driver 8
The walls are built up, stone by stone,
The fields divided one by one.
And the train conductor says
take a break driver 8, driver 8 take a break
Weve been on this shift too long
And the train conductor says
take a break driver 8, driver 8 take a break
We can reach our destination, but were still a ways away
I saw a treehouse on the outskirts of the farm.
The power lines have floaters so the airplanes wont get snagged.
Bells are ringing through the town again,
Children look up, all they hear is sky-blue, bells ringing
And the train conductor says
take a break driver 8, driver 8 take a break
We can reach our destination, but were still a ways away
Way to shield the hated heat.
Way to put myself to sleep.
Way to shield the hated heat.
Way to put myself, my children to sleep.
He piloted this song in a plane like that one.
She is selling faith on the go tell crusade.
Locomotive 8, southern crescent, hear the bells ring again.
Field of wheat is looking thin
And the train conductor says
take a break driver 8, driver 8 take a break
Weve been on this shift too long.
And the train conductor says
take a break driver 8, driver 8 take a break
We can reach our destination, but were still a ways away

Human Shields
So much violence in our name
Our lives are silence, masked in shame
Children running in the streets
Soldier boots are on their feet
Mother bare the burdens of our defeats
Fathers are on their knees praying for mercy
So much violence in our name ...
Holding me like your shield
So much violence in our name
Our lives are silenced, masked in shame
No more
No more
No more ...
Holding me like your shield
No more violence in our name
No more violence in our name

The leader is safe
Followers see in a leader the shield;
The leader sees in followers the sword.
The sword breaks in battle for a reward.
Getting the reward, safely returns the shield.

Courage is ability to handle the sword.

The Last Defeat
Across the field of day
In sudden blazon lay
The pallid bar of gold
Borne on the shield of day.
Night had endured so long,
And now the Day grew strong
With lance of light to hold
The Night at bay.
So on my life's dull night
The splendour of your light
Traversed the dusky shield
And shone forth golden bright.
Your colours I have worn
Through all the fight forlorn,
And these, with life, I yield,
To-night, to Night.

Pelion
The small owls cry
through the centaur's woods,
bronze wings clashing
through the dry autumnal leaves.
Old battles echo in the air -
the brazen shield and iron spear
flash in the moonlight.
Caught between the fearful dream
and feared reality
the fieldmice still,
crouch lower than the rabbits in the groves.
The owls fly on,
more haunted now than hunting,
towards a time
when pale Athena, helmeted and armed,
lifted her shield
to catch the owl-eyed moon.

Into Death Bravely
Winter
throws his great white shield
on the ground,
breaking thin arms of twisting branches,
and then howls
on the north side of the Black Mesa
a deep, throaty laughter.
Because of him
we have to sell our cattle
that rake snow for stubble.
Having lived his whole life
in a few weeks,
slow and pensive he walks away,
dragging his silver-stream shield
down branches
and over the ground,
he keeps walking slowly away
into death
bravely.

Pride!
All I have left is my pride.
But a shield, yet a buoy.
Keeps me afloat against vice,
Against your spite that annoy.
My pride; a protective pride,
Affords me dignity's joy-
When you want to stomp my might,
When you want to stop my force.
It is my pride that clears my sight.
Thus leave me to my proud course.
Lest you feel my wrath ever fierce.
My pride, the only dignity I know.
Only wall between trodden tears;
The defender of weak, helpless souls,
Those looking upon the rich with fear.
Pride; the bold titanium shield of sorts.
Blocking the piercing stares and jeers.
Unseen strength that can't be stopped.
Can't be broken; is my pride here.

Homesick
Homesick!
And committed to be brave.
Pretending to shield against a tendency to fear.
No need to save tears,
Clearly falling from eyes...
Like a leak from a faucet that can not be turned off!
These conflicts fought on foreign lands...
By soldiers taught,
To keep emotions devoted and frozen not to show!
Yet expectedly they do.
Dangers faced.
The homesick embrace.
Wishing one day from them to be erased.
Homesick!
And committed to be brave.
Pretending to shield against a tendency to fear.
What is near is too real.
What is there is theirs to feel.
With a wish to touch...
Someone loved so much!
Homesick!
With no weapon provided to avoid it!
