Coyote

No regrets coyote
We just come from such different sets of circumstance
Im up all night in the studios
And youre up early on your ranch
Youll be brushing out a brood mares tail
While the sun is ascending
And Ill just be getting home with my reel to reel...
Theres no comprehending
Just how close to the bone and the skin and the eyes
And the lips you can get
And still feel so alone
And still feel related
Like stations in some relay
Youre not a hit and run driver, no, no
Racing away
You just picked up a hitcher
A prisoner of the white lines on the freeway
We saw a farmhouse burning down
In the middle of nowhere
In the middle of the night
And we rolled right past that tragedy
Till we turned into some road house lights
Where a local band was playing
Locals were up kicking and shaking on the floor
And the next thing I know
That coyotes at my door
He pins me in a corner and he wont take no!
He drags me out on the dance floor
And were dancing close and slow
Now hes got a woman at home
Hes got another woman down the hall
He seems to want me anyway
Whyd you have to get so drunk
And lead me on that way
You just picked up a hitcher
A prisoner of the white lines of the freeway
I looked a coyote right in the face
On the road to baljennie near my old home town
He went running thru the whisker wheat
Chasing some prize down
And a hawk was playing with him
Coyote was jumping straight up and making passes
He had those same eyes - just like yours
Under your dark glasses
Privately probing the public rooms
And peeking thru keyholes in numbered doors
Where the players lick their wounds
And take their temporary lovers
And their pills and powders to get them thru this passion play
No regrets, coyote
I just get off up aways
You just picked up a hitcher
A prisoner of the white lines on the freeway
Coyotes in the coffee shop
Hes staring a hole in his scrambled eggs
He picks up my scent on his fingers
While hes watching the waitresses legs
Hes too fat from the bay of fundy
>from appaloosas and eagles and tides
And the air conditioned cubicles
And the carbon ribbon rides
Are spelling it out so clear
Either hes going to have to stand and fight
Or take off out of here
I tried to run away myself
To run away and wrestle with my ego
And with this flame
You put here in this eskimo
In this hitcher
In this prisoner
Of the fine white lines
Of the white lines on the free, free way

Coyotes

Triplet coyotes
From the day of their birth
Desired the moon
And all it was worth

Providing them light
So at night they could see
Any dangers ahead
And be able to flee

All three loved the moon
And each soon decided
Too precious to share
Was the light it provided

The coyote first born
Snuck into night
And sang to the moon
With all of his might

Assured by the usual
Glimmer it gave
He felt quite accomplished
And returned to the cave

The youngest coyote
The next night awoke
And danced for the moon
As he quietly spoke

His sweet words of love
Were followed by light
The moon clearly pleased
So he called it a night

The last coyote
Woke up from a dream
Of the peaceful moon
And its wonderful gleam

He walked outside
And sat on the ground
Gazed up at the moon
Its beauty profound

All three coyotes
Thought it had ended
They'd won the battle
Performances splendid

That next night they waited
The moon did not show
They stayed there for hours
Then decided to go

All day they bonded
Coyotes of three
And again that night
The moon, they could see

Each one pondered
Where it had been
But it didn't matter
They would not fight again

They learned to appreciate
More things in life
Than a brilliant moon
That would just cause them strife

So together they sat
Those brothers of three
Under an Oak Tree
Bonded and free

I Can Read Between The Lines

Roy orbison/joe melson
Girl I got your letter telling me youre coming home tonight
The lines were sweet and tender signed with all your love
Pretty words to make me feel alright
Then I read it over I got the feeling youre not completely mine
I held it to my chest, where you always rest
And I cried cos I can read between the lines
Between the lines I see youre making believe
But I cant help it, I still want you
Between the lines its plain youre playing that old game
But I still love you, and I cant change
Baby Ill be waiting at the downtown station right on time
Reaching out to hold you, the way I always do
Ill pretend that you are only mine
And while Im loving you I cant read between the lines
While Im loving you I cant read between the lines

Nervous

Why I am so nervous
Please explain to me
Why I cant sleep
I close my eyes to shelter
In the dark I try to hide
If you leave me on my own
Im worried I could lose my way
In my mind confusion
I see you everywhere
But we dont speak
I try so hard to touch you
But youre always out of reach
If you walked right by
Would I see in it your eye
Would you turn away
Seems to me
Ive been a long time
On this road
Has there been a sign
Another way
And Ive passed it by
I dont know what it is that drives me on
Gotta keep movin
Gotta keep movin on
Bring it on home
Lets bring it on home - your love
Bring it on home
Lets bring it on home your love
Bring it on home
Lets bring it on home your love
Down parallel lines
Dont question faith
Dont answer lies
Tell me why Im nervous
Please explain to me
Why I cant sleep
Please explain to me
Why youre always out of reach
If the water ran dry
Would I see it in your eye
Would you walk away
It seems to me Ive been a long time on this road
And I wonder why
Has there been a sign that points another way
And Ive passed it by
I dont know what it is that drives me on
Gotta keep movin
Gotta keep movin on
Bring it on home
(straight lines before my eyes)
Lets bring it on home your love
Bring it on home
(straight lines before my eyes)
Lets bring it on home your love
Bring it on home
(straight lines before my eyes)
Lets bring it on home your love
Down parallel lines
Dont question faith
Dont answer lies
You know you gotta keep movin
Bring it on home
(straight lines before my eyes)
Lets bring it on home your love
Bring it on home
(straight lines before my eyes)
Lets bring it on home your love

Coyote

Coyote goes to the top of the hill
Doin the things the coyotes will
Staring at the sky, at the moon
You know he starts to howl
Coyote goes to the mountain top
Looks over down at the river, says what a drop
No tame dogs is gonna take my born
Coyote at the top of the hill
Doin the things the coyotes will
You gotta cast the first stone
Cast the first stone
Jackal goes to the top of the hill
Doin the things that jackals will
Staring at the moon
You know he starts to howl
Wild dog up on mountain top
Blood in his jaws, the bone, he drops
No tame dogs is ever
Ever gonna take my bone
Jackal up on the top of the hill
Doin the things that jackals will
Cast the first stone
Cast the first stone
Coyote on top of the hill
Ooohhh, doin the things the coyotes will
Staring at the sky, looks at the moon
He starts to howl
Coyote up on the mountain top
Blood in his jaws, the bone, he drops
Says no tame dogs is ever
Ever gonna take this bone
Coyote up on the mountain top
Says what a drop
You gotta cast the first stone
Cast the first stone

A Pigeon

I've picked up your name from the floor
and held it for long on the palm of my hand
watching it gently peck its lines
until there remained nothing not a single crumb
and your name well fed slept for a while
in lines of death in lines of life
in lines of the head and lines of the heart
in intricate patterns that sealed me for too long

there was a lullaby I wanted to sing
but I was not able to open my mouth
for fear you'll wake up and disappear
and I promised myself I would never dropp you again

i Saw a Woman

i saw a woman
Dancing on her grave
She smiled and sang
La la lee
La la lo
La la lee
La la lo

She picked up Death's cat
By tail & twirled the thing
La la lee
La la lo

Death watched curriously
How this thing could be
La la lee
He scratched his head
La la lo

The woman looked back at Death
And flipped him off
Her skeleton bones
Were white as snow
Now her dance
Was beginning to slow

Death thought now
Was her time to go

Instead
She skinned the cat
And made a dress
Put it on
And picked up her song
La la lee

Death's eyes popped out
At what he saw next
The woman's bones
Grew new flesh

Her hair combed and tapered in curls
Death ran at her with fury
But tripped along
An old tomebstone
La la lo

Death on the ground
She picked up her dance
And danced on Death

Bone by bone
She trampled him in the ground

The last thing he saw
Was the woman's child
And he sang and danced
La la lee
Along with a whole
Party of bones
La la lo

White Hat White Coat

To the late doug whalan.... from your daughter.....

White hat white coat and greying in hair
he would dance around the dance floor with plenty of flair

White hat white coat black pants to boot
the men would all say 'silly old coot'

Whitehat white coat and a big friendly smile
when he went to a dance he'd dress in style

White hat white coat and a beat in his feet
it's of to the dance and people to meet

White hat white coat and a scotch on the rocks he'd love to dance
and the men would all mock

White hat white coat asleep at the wheel
he's danced all night 'boy i know how he feels'

White hat white coat have been put to the test
it's time to go home for a well earned rest

White hat white coat clean shirt and socks too
he's all geard up and ready for round two

White hat white coat so tired and run down
close your eyes and dream of your nights on the town

White hat white coat you've seen better days
your torn around the edges and your starting to fray

White hat white coat the time's come for us to part
but always remember ' i love you with all my heart '

White Skin Black Heart

Yeah, whatcha gonna do now, now that you started?
Whatcha gonna do now, now that its done?
The words got out there, they float around and are coming right back down.
You gonna leave us lying here
Dealing with the consequences of a bad sound
Of a bad sound.
White skin black heart
White skin black heart
Whatcha gonna do now, that its spoken?
These words of a habit, have not faded away.
.................... it clear, conscious gets opened like a wound.
If you cant concieve a better line and better times,
Then let silence bury you, in the end.
When you feel it, when you feel it
Youre condemned.
You see, youve lost your strangle on the freedom road! you
Think ........................of something a long time ago! you
[spewed it out you were so] insecure! it was like ............. on
The toilet floor! youre a [nine seat] drunk, ............... and
You say you want something, .......... you heard the rednecks
Roaring for blood and then they wanted more! life was so small, you
Couldnt get enough. you made a start.
White skin black heart
Dripping,
White skin black heart
White skin black heart
White skin black heart
White skin black heart
Drag your eyes from [aurora] black heart!
White skin black heart
Drag your leg, get outta here [my sight]!
White skin black heart
White skin black heart
White skin black heart
White skin black heart
You didnt have to start
White skin black heart
White skin black heart

Fear of the unknown

The wind was strong and the dust blew viciously.
Walking on a dirt road, not sure of my destination.
I encountered a coyote standing in the distance. My
first thought was to turn and run and then I
realized that might not be a good idea. I slowly
walked, placing one foot quietly in front of the
other, while keeping my eye on the coyote. The
animal did not move, it stood in the same position.
Fearful as I was, I didn’t want the animal to know
my fear. I bravely took step after step and walked
toward the road. Finally I reached a crossing in
the road. When I turned to look back the coyote
was gone. At that point, I felt sure I was safe and
continued to walk down the road. When I
approached an old shack at the road clearing, I
noticed paw prints on the soft ground. Immediately
I thought, what animal made those prints, surely
it wasn’t the coyote that I encountered earlier,
certainly not, don’t be silly I thought to myself.
Once again I continued to walk forward. I could
feel butterflies in my stomach. What were those
prints on the ground. Trying not to think about it,
I began to walk faster and faster. Suddenly I
heard a noise, it sounded like a scratching noise
behind me. Oh what now, could that be the
coyote. My heart was racing and the sweat
poured down my face causing my eyes to sting.
My vision blurred by my perspiration, I was beside
myself and was feeling very sick to my stomach.
Never before, have I been so afraid, never so unsure
of myself. I wanted to run, but once again
wondered if the animal that was following me
might run and attack me.

Prisoner

- m. carey - b. margulies -
You dont think that Ill be strong enough
Nooo baby now
I wont be a prisoner of your love
(prisoner of your love)
Maybe you dont think I love you strong enough
But Im not gonna be a prisoner of your love
I know youre lyin, denyin
All of your actions, so listen up
Cause heres my reaction
Here comes the night
No more living in the shadow of your love
This is my life
Always tried so hard to keep me down
But now Ill rise above
Those empty lies
Stop pretending that my accusations
Take you by surprise
Ive realized
Now Im ending all the secrecy
I see through your disguise
All the dreams we planned
I believed so I held on
I understand
So when the morning comes
You know that Ill be gone
You dont think that Ill be strong enough
Nooo baby now
I wont be a prisoner of your love
(prisoner of your love)
No longer blind
I can focus on deception
Used to keep me by your side
I read your mind
Dont believe its all a mystery
Theres nothing you can hide
Its all defined
Theres nothing you can tell me now
To change the way I feel inside
All the dreams we planned
I believed so I held on
I understand, yeah
So when the morning comes
You know that Ill be gone
(you dont think) that Ill be strong enough
Noo baby now
(I wont be) the prisoner of your love
(prisoner of your love)
Im just not the girl you thought I was
Not gonna be a prisoner
I wont be the prisoner of your love
Of your
Looove
Dont wanna be a prisoner
I dont wanna be a prisoner
No
Mmmh
Dont wanna be a prisoner
I dont wanna be a prisoner
So if you wanna be my love
You cant be all wild
Play up when
You see me and then say mariah I miss you
Expect me to hug and kiss you?
Dont that dis you?
But I guess Im not the kind of girl you thought I was
Ive had enough of now Ill see ya later cause...
Boy make me know that Ill be strong enough
But I wont be a prisoner baby of your love
No more no more no more no more no more no more
No nooo, baby now
I wont think
(no no no)
Prisoner of your loooove
(prisoner of your love)
(Im just not) the girl you thought I was
Oh
Not gonna be a prisoner
(not gonna be)
(I wont be) the prisoner of your
Love
Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
Yeah
Im not one of those girls wholl wait around
Cryin cause you wouldnt take me all over town
You cant do that
Im not a door mat
Youre just a player
Thats not my format

I Wont Close My Eyes

(kevin montgomery/larry b. gottlieb)
I dont wanna think
That you could be runnin around
After all the love
That I have shown you
I wont knock on your door
I wont call to see if youre home
But I wont close my eyes
Loves a matter of trust
And I just want to believe in us
But last night in your kiss
I felt a lie on your lips
I wont knock on your door
I wont call to see if youre home
But I wont close my eyes
There are two kinds of love
Those who are true and those untrue
I see black and white
Are you somewhere lost between the two
I wont knock on your door
I wont call to see if youre home
I wont knock on your door
I wont call to see if youre home
But, I wont close my eyes
No, I wont close my eyes
I dont wanna think
That you could be runnin around

In the inner square

In the inner square
just outside the police station
a little group stands around a drum
in which coals are burning
and flames are shooting up
in the dark night.

Between them a man is standing,
holding out his hands
to get them warm
and above them the stars are bright
like lights in the night
but the moon
has a strange colour that particular night.

A woman constable walking past
stops and asks the man:
“Are you not one of those wild men
who are following the prisoner? ”

It’s as if the eyes
of every policeman around the fire
like search lights fall on him
and he shakes his head decidedly
and draws the cap lower over his head
to get hot and avoid their stares.

“I really do not know him. Do not even know
the reason why you have captured him. Just came
to get some heat from the fire
and what injustice lies in this? ”

The women constable frowns
and walks away with swaying hips
and he remark about the way
that she walks,
which makes the other men around the fire laugh

and through the open door
of the police station
he notices how somebody inside
hits the prisoner through the face
and it’s almost
as if he feels it in his own face.

“Friend, you are not from here
and looks just as ruff as him, ”
one of the constables says jokingly
and his tooth glitters white
for his own joke.

This time the man is much more definite
and worry is eating at him:
“No. Constables, if I would know him
by this time you would know me too?
You probably know
his accomplices? ”

A constable that was at the arrest
comes and stand at the fire
and the flames flares up more brightly
causing him to see the man
between them clearly.

“You talk in the same dialect as the prisoner?
Were you not at the arrest? Surely you were there? ”
Every policeman and even
some of those in the police station
is now staring at him.

“Truly, no. He is totally strange to me!
You cannot lay the guilt
of that man’s deeds onto just anybody.
Just because we maybe comes from the same place.
I can say under oath that I do not know him.”

His gaze catches that of the prisoner
and he sees love
and no condemnation
and on that hour, minute and second
a cock crows
and pain rips through him
that he has just betrayed the Son of God

and the man walks away from the fire
into the night, just blindly
and he cries
while rain is falling around him

and he wonders what it takes
to stand for the truth
while lightning bolts hits blue-white around him.

Welcome Me

Welcome me to your city of angels
Devil prophets still hold my hand
I walked your stillborn streets for hours
Ethnic echoes spitting out their trials
They tell me Ill be the first to praise the sun
The first to praise the moon
The first to hold the lone coyote
The last to set it free
Welcome me to a haven given
Its well received into my open arms
Oh I ran in my sleep through shaking tremors
I felt the splitting earth echoing in my ears
I feel it Ill be the first to praise the sun
The first to praise the moon
The first to hold the lone coyote
The last to set it free
Welcome me to your city of angels
Theres a devil monkey laying on our backs
Now tell me wheres the heart
Wheres the bullet for breaking
Whos gonna give me a weapon
A pacifying weapon
I need it Ill be the first to praise the sun
The first to praise the moon oh
The first to hold the lone coyote
The last to set it free
Ill be the first to praise the sun
I said I said welcome me
The first to praise the moon oh
The first to hold the lone coyote
The last to set it free
I said welcome me

White Town

Its midnight down in sector two
Little girl walkin dressed in innocence and cool
Only fourteen and dressed up for the score
Hold that breath now boy, he(? )
She dances, baby, to the beat
Of breaking glass and running feet
Down in white town
Down in white town
Down in white town
Oh, she comes home from work and grabs something to eat
Turn the corner and walks down her street
In a row of houses, chic, shiny and dirty and grey
Disappears like the scenery in another mans play
And as she dances, oh, to the beat
Oh the trooper stickin dresses for the number on the sheet
Down in white town
Down in white town
Down in white town
Down in white town
Yeah, mr. outside, youre walkin so free
If you turn your eyes so you dont see
You act like youre the hand turns the key
And you become the hand that turns the key
And no matter how I try I cannot understand
The way that they will turn a man
Into a stranger in his own land
Down in white town

The Prisoner

A misfit who is old before his time
Poverty has turned him to crime
Boredom gives him too much time to think
He pours another drink.
(chorus)
A burning, bitter taste of irony
A prisoner in the land of the free.
He wonders why his landscape looks so strange
Burger bars are home on the range
An empty bottle falling from his hand
He does'nt understand.
(chorus)
A burning, bitter taste of irony
A prisoner in the land of the free.
A cork unlocks the door to other lands
Of battles won and destinies in hand
A half-remembered state of liquid dreams
Where things aren't what they seem.
(chorus)
A burning, bitter taste of irony
A prisoner in the land of the free.
A naked savage dressed in shirt and jeans
A burning, bitter taste of irony
A prisoner in the land of the free.

Prisoner Of Love

Ive gotta run away from you
If I wanna save myself
And theres nothing I can do
To break your magic spell
You are evil and you show it
With your eyes
Oh, and the way your body moves
Just keeps me hipnotized
cos Im a prisoner of love
Someone rescue me
Release me from this state of mind
I was born to be free
Just a prisoner of love
Come on let me be cos if loving you is my crime
Go on and close the door on me
Oh, Ive been convicted for the crime
I have been done
But if losing you is my sentence
Id rather lose my life
Can someone help me
Help me keep my sanity
cos I love this evil force
Thats taking over me
cos Im a prisoner of love
Someone rescue me
Release me from this state of mind
I was born to be free
Just a prisoner of love
Come on let me be

Go on and close the door on me

The Mistake

it was a different thing that you see
from that you feel
a war between the bulge of the eyes
and the pumps of the heart
the lines of the palms are clear
nobody wants to mind now
in the middle of too much desire
it is the heart that wins
slashing the blinks of the wondering eyes
the lines of the palms are clear
there is no doubt
the heart bleeds upon its mistake
and begins to remember the veils
and the sonorous sounds of the funeral bells of
the little town

the lines of the palms are clear
there is no doubt about it
at the end every part shall accept the fate
no regret
once again the self rides upon the wings of destiny
until the final word of the years rest

Read Between The Lines

Uh hu
You got to read between the lines
You got to read between the lines
You got to read between the lines
Ah ah ah ah
Late afternoon
Its the sun going down
A call on the cell
Why is he in such a hurry
Leaving the room
Hes mumbling too
Now look what hes doing
Hes leaving out the room
No explanation
No ask for location
Just watching him pacing
Wonder who hes chasing
Looks like versation
The end of debation
Hed love to go swing and
(chorus)
You better open your mind
And read between the lines
Got to read between the lines
Got to read between the lines
Got to read between the lines
Hot in the morning
Im up waiting for breakfast
Know your getting restless
This fool is full of questions
Little replying
Whole lot of denying
Instead I feel life in
So why do you keep on trying
Touch for the median
Now hes a comedian
Thats all the more reason
Its changing like the season
Are you still pleasing
How soon youll be leaving
Which one hell be creeping
(chorus)
(bridge)
Your replies are getting old
Its in his eyes
Youve got to read between the lines
Your replies again told
Look in his eyes
Youve got to read between the lines
Your replies are getting old
Its in his eyes
Youve got to read between the lines
Your replies again told
Look in his eyes
Youve got to read between the lines
Dont really think your pulling one over me
Cause i
I know whats going on
Dont hope you wont be planning on running me
Cause ah cause ah
Ill be gone
Dont really think your pulling one over me
Cause i
I know whats going on
Dont hope you wont be planning on runing me
Cause ah cause ah
Ill be gone
Cause youre thinking
Your ___ aint mistaken
My temperatures peaking
Now why is you barely speaking
Busting his bubble
And he knows hes in trouble
Hes talking in doubles
I listen to him hardly believing
Changing the story
And trying to ignore me
Still reaching out for me
Still aint no point in reaching
Give me a reason
To put you back on the line
You wasted enough time
I had to open my mind
And read between the lines
Got to read between the lines
Got to read between the lines
Got to read between the lines

For many long years Ive played a lone hand
I rode my horse in many strange lands
Until one day I stopped for awhile
For two blue eyes and a sunny smile
So howl away you old coyote
I hear your sad and lonesome song
Youre calling me back to old montana
Back to those hills where I belong
One day I rode away from home
Im a traveling back and it wont be long
Ill see you again in a little while
Youre my darling sweet, my welcome smile
So howl away you old coyote

Stuck In A Closet With Vanna White

Doctor, every night I have the strangest dreams
Doctor, listen to me, tell me what this means
First Im goin shoppin in my underwear
Then all of sudden Im floating in mid air
My lips fall off and everybody starts to stare
Donuts and hot dogs are flying everywhere
Now doctor, wait a minute, you aint heard nothin yet
Next comes the part that I wont ever forget
Now Im bein followed by these russian spies
They give me some velcro, and an order of fries
Suddenly Im bowling on the starship enterprise
I fall down a hole and thats when I realize
I am stuck in a closet with vanna white
Im stuck in a closet with vanna white
Night after night after night after night
All right!
Doctor, wont you tell me, am I going insane
Was it something I ate or something wrong with my brain
See, Im naked in church when I meet a dinosaur
Try to run, but my feet have been nailed to the floor
Then a midget pushes me through a revolving door
And Im back in the very same place I was before
Now Im stuck in a closet with vanna white
Im stuck in a closet with vanna white
Night after night after night after night
And I cant bust out and I cant break free
And its gettin just a little too stuffy here for me
And I cant go home and I cant get loose
And I try to escape but its just no use
And I cant ever leave and I cant ever win
And were runnin outta air and the walls are closin in
And I cant go back and I cant get through
But vanna since youre here, why dont you let me buy a vowel from you
Come on vanna, come on!
Ow, buhhh
Doctor, all those crazy dreams have started again
Thats right, I even wake up screaming now and then
See, Im coming home from work but I forgot my address
Im half an hour late for my algebra test
Then some slimy alien jumps out of my chest
And Im falling and falling and I guess you know the rest
I am stuck in a closet with vanna white
Im stuck in a closet with vanna white
Night after night after night after night
I am stuck in a closet with vanna white
Stuck in a closet with vanna white
N-n-n-night after night after night night night
Then Im stuck in a closet with vanna white (ya-ya ya-ya, ya-ya, ya, ya-ya)
Im stuck in a closet with vanna white
Night after night after night after night
I am stuck in a closet with vanna white (ya-ya ya-ya ya-ya ya-ya)
I am stuck in a closet with vanna white
