On Broadway
They say that
Neon lights are bright on broadway
They say theres always magic in the air
But when youre walking down the street
And you aint had enough to eat
The city all lights up and youre nowhere
They say
The girls are something else on broadway
Looking at them just gives me the blues
cause howre you gonna make some time
When all you got is one thin dime
And one thin dime wont even shine your shoes
They say that
Love wont last too long on broadway
Now catch a greyhound bus for home
They all say
I bet theyre wrong, I know they are
cause I can play this here guitar
And I wont quit till Im a star
On broadway

Green lights on broadway
All the magic seems to say
Come and ride with me baby you know
Its got to be the greatest show on broadway
Out here on the streets they say
You can see your life in one day
I long I long I long I long I long to hear every single street singer
Oh what a mood that feeling brings
You can capture life in a jar
Chances are that youll find out on broadway
Who you really are
Sitting in a lonely room
Staring through the evening gloom
Shell never make the grade on broadway
Shell never spend exciting nights
Surrounded by a maze of lights
And stars that line the streets on broadway
Broadway
When the neon lights are shining bright
She knows shes going to make it someday
Broadway
You can hear the music of the night
She knows that she will
Broadway
When the neon lights are shining bright
Oh I know shes going to make it some day
Broadway
You can hear the music of the night
I know that she will
I said
Broadway
Oh how I love you how I love you
Broadway
How I love you how I love you
Broadway
Its your show I know I know
But chances are youll find out on broadway
Who you really are

Vibes Man
Vibes man in the alley, play me your spitball serenade,
And a deeper blue and youll be playing in your grave.
Save your notes, spend them on your blues, boy.
Help your darlin yearlin blues, boy.
Hit the church note, ring it!
Vibes man sing the trashcan hear your junkman singing.
Fish lady, dont you bait those tenement walls.
Dont take corner boys because theyre too easy.
You were born black and blue,
You didnt have to wait for somebody to hit you.
Take my arm, Ill move with you down broadway.
Take my arm, oh honey, Ill walk with you down broadway.
Im the young man and Ill be proud,
And I can talk real loud.
And Im from out of town, too.
Wont you come home with me.
Wont you come home with me.
But no, cause she wont take a train,
Oh, she wont take that train.
Oh, she wont take a train.
Oh, she wont take that train.
She wont take a train.
Oh, she wont take that train.
Oh, she wont take a train.
Oh, she wont take that train.
You wont take the train.
She wont take the train.
Cause shes afraid those tracks are gonna slow her down.
And when she turns around,
Im gonna be gone like the ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

On Broadway
About me young careless feet
Linger along the garish street;
Above, a hundred shouting signs
Shed down their bright fantastic glow
Upon the merry crowd and lines
Of moving carriages below.
Oh wonderful is Broadway -- only
My heart, my heart is lonely.
Desire naked, linked with Passion,
Goes trutting by in brazen fashion;
From playhouse, cabaret and inn
The rainbow lights of Broadway blaze
All gay without, all glad within;
As in a dream I stand and gaze
At Broadway, shining Broadway -- only
My heart, my heart is lonely.

Off Broadway
Hanging around Broadway, and I think I saw your face
Cars speeding by me, reminding me of us
Shuffle down to the watering hole
Getting tired and I want to go home
I don't know where that is anymore
I don't know where that is anymore
I don't know where that is anymore
I don't know where that is anymore
Used to be off Broadway
I miss your locket, and the way I felt inside
And I just cant stop it, hasn't killed me yet, but give it time
Shuffle down to the watering hole
Getting tired and I want to go home
I don't know where that is anymore
I don't know where that is anymore
I don't know where that is anymore
I don't know where that is anymore
Used to be off Broadway
Used to be off Broadway
Used to be off Broadway
Used to be off Broadway

New York City Boy
When youre a boy
Some days are tough
Lying on your bad
Playing punk rock and stuff
Home is a boot camp
You gotta escape
Wanna go and wander
In the ticker-tape
You feel the deal is real
Youre a new york city boy
So young, so run
Into new york city
New york city boy
Youll never have a bored day
cause youre a new york city boy
Where seventh avenue meets broadway
The street is amazing
The hoochies unreal
Check out all the hardware
At the latest deal
Hear a song
Thats the bomb
If you dont get the mix
Its got eighty-six
You feel the deal is real
Youre in new york city
New york city boy
Youll never have a bored day
cause youre a new york city boy
Where seventh avenue meets broadway
New york city boy
This is your reward day
cause youre a new york city boy
Where seventh avenue meets broadway
Then as the evening falls
You can return its calls
You feel the deal is real
Youre a new york city boy
So young, so run
Into new york city
New york city boy
Youll never have a bored day
cause youre a new york city boy
Where seventh avenue meets broadway

Miami 2017
Ive seen the lights go out on broadway,
I saw the empire state laid low.
And life went on beyond the palaces.
They all bought cadillacs,
Left there long ago
We held a concert out in brooklyn.
To watch the island bridges blow.
It turned our power down,
And drove us underground,
But we went right on with the show.
Ive seen the lights go out on broadway,
I saw the ruins at life end.
You know we almost didnt notice it,
We see it all the time
On 42nd street
It burned the churches up in harlem
Like in that spanish civil war.
The flames were everywhere,
And no one really cared,
It always burned up there before
Ive seen the rats lie down on broadway,
And I watched the miami skyline fall.
The folks were waving at the battery
The union went on strike
They never settled it out.
They sent a carrier out from norfolk,
And picked the yankees up for free.
They said the queens could stay
And threw the crowns away,
And sent manhattan out to sea.
She knows those lights right on broadway
That was so many years ago.
Before we all lived in florida.
Before the mafia,
Took over mexico.
There are too many who remember.
They say a handful still survive.
To tell the world about,
The way the lights went out,
To keep the memory alive.

New York City Serenade
Billy, hes down by the railroad tracks, sittin low in the back seat of his cadillac,
Diamond jackie, shes so intact, she falls so softly beneath him,
Jackies heels are stacked, billys got cleats on his boots,
Together theyre gonna boogaloo down broadway and come back home with the
Loot,
Its midnight in manhattan, this is no time to get cute, its a mad dogs promenade,
So walk tall, or baby dont walk at all.
Fish lady, fish lady, fish lady she baits them tenement walls,
She wont take cornerboys, aint got no money, and theyre so easy,
I said, hey baby wont you take my hand, walk me down broadway,
Im a young man and I talk real loud, yeah, baby walk real proud for you.
So shake it away, so shake away your street life, shake away your city life,
And hook up to the train, hook up to the night train, hook it up hook up to the, hook up to the train,
But I know that she wont take the train, no she wont take the train,
No she wont take the train, no she wont take the train
Shes afraid them tracks are gonna slow her down,
And when she turns this boyll be gone
So long, sometimes you just gotta walk on.
Hey vibes man, hey jazz man play me your serenade
Any deeper blue and youre playin in your grave
Save your notes, dont spend em on the blues boy,
Save your notes, dont spend em on the darlin yearlin sharp boy,
Straight for the church note ringin, vibes man sting a trash can
Listen to your junk man, listen to your junk man,
Listen to your junk man, listen to your junk man,
Hes singin, singin, singin, singin.
All dressed up in satin, walkin past the alley.
Watch out for you junk man, watch out for your junk man,
Watch out for your junk man.

My Own Way
(I saw)
I saw you at the airace yesterday,
April showers get out of my way.
Fear of flying no not me.
Im never bothered what you say
Someones kid just lives for today
It aint your problem anyway
cos Ive got my own way
I can find my own way
cos Ive got my own way
Hay yay yay yay yay ya-hay
(chrous)
(no. 1)
Public figure, what a pain
Just puts another rattle in your brain
Take another green but its not the same
Now youre on the sandlane everyday
Dancing with the bulls in any old way
Running like a fox to keep up with me.
(chorus) (chorus)

Im on 45th, between 6th & broadway
7up, between 6th & broadway
(chorus) (chorus)
Yeh yeh yeh yeh yeh yeh yeh

Say the words, come coolin down.

Looking For Love On Broadway
Need a reason to be here
Hoping to find it tonight
Walking alone on broadway
Watching the people
Watching the town go down
Broadways a river to me
Fat fish in the big city sea
Taxi cabs, limousines, submarines
Got my mind on a sweet dream
Keeping an eye on this street scene
cause Im open for love
In the middle of town tonight
Had my fill of self-pity
I brought all my blues to the city
Guess Im pressing my lucky
In the middle of town tonight
See me waiting on you to smile back on me
Child
It looks like tomorrow
It seems like the end of a dream
Dawning on me on broadway
In the morning light its a dream
And Im just a fool
Looking for love on broadway

Truckin
Truckin got my chips cashed in. keep truckin, like the do-dah man
Together, more or less in line, just keep truckin on.
Arrows of neon and flashing marquees out on main street.
Chicago, new york, detroit and its all on the same street.
Your typical city involved in a typical daydream
Hang it up and see what tomorrow brings.
Dallas, got a soft machine; houston, too close to new orleans;
New yorks got the ways and means; but just wont let you be, oh no.
Most of the cast that you meet on the streets speak of true love,
Most of the time theyre sittin and cryin at home.
One of these days they know they better get goin
Out of the door and down on the streets all alone.
Truckin, like the do-dah man. once told me youve got to play your hand
Sometimes your cards aint worth a dime, if you dont layem down,
Sometimes the lights all shinin on me;
Other times I can barely see.
Lately it occurs to me what a long, strange trip its been.
What in the world ever became of sweet jane?
She lost her sparkle, you know she isnt the same
Livin on reds, vitamin c, and cocaine,
All a friend can say is aint it a shame?
Truckin, up to buffalo. been thinkin, you got to mellow slow
Takes time, you pick a place to go, and just keep truckin on.
Sittin and starin out of the hotel window.
Got a tip theyre gonna kick the door in again
Id like to get some sleep before I travel,
But if you got a warrant, I guess youre gonna come in.
Busted, down on bourbon street, set up, like a bowlin pin.
Knocked down, it gets to wearin thin. they just wont let you be, oh no.
Youre sick of hangin around and youd like to travel;
Get tired of travelin and you want to settle down.
I guess they cant revoke your soul for tryin,
Get out of the door and light out and look all around.
Sometimes the lights all shinin on me;
Other times I can barely see.
Lately it occurs to me what a long, strange trip its been.
Truckin, Im a goin home. whoa whoa baby, back where I belong,
Back home, sit down and patch my bones, and get back truckin on.
Hey now get back truckin home.

One Thin Dime
(m. heenay, j. leap)
Your minds made up
Youre gonna leave
Nothing I can say will stop you so it seems
But before you up and go
Theres just something you should know
When you find that Im the one you still need
Chorus:
One thin dime
Is all it takes
When you need someone who cares
These arms of mine
Are always open
One thin dime is all you need
And Ill be there
Oh youre chasing rainbows and I understand
When youre through Ill take you back again
Ill be waiting patiently
For when you come back to me
Aint nobody else can love you like I can
Repeat chorus
You know the number
Im always home
So honey just pick up and dial that telephone
When this world treats you unkind
Get your momma on the line
There aint no need for you to ever be alone
Repeat chorus
These arms of mine
Oh theyre always open
One thin dime is all you need
And Ill be there

Look Out Broadway
(words & music by wise - starr)
We never got discouraged, we never had a doubt
cos sooner or later talent must win out
Look out broadway, were comin fast
Now were gonna see our names in lights at last
No more hot dogs at sloppy joes
Were gonna dine on steak and wine at del monacos
Rich or poor its great to have dough
Thats one thing we know
Lots of fun, lots of laughs
Signing cheques and contracts and autographs
Were up for n-e-w y-o-r-k
Look out, look out broadway
I wanna see all the hustle and bustle
Maybe I can get a date with lilian russell
I want to go out with diamond jim
Yeh, if he gives you a diamond what will you give to him
Blow the trumpets and beat on the drum
Big time here we come
No more cheap hotels and one night stands
Well knock tin pan alley flat on its pans
Theyll see that weve got class with a capital k
Look out, look out broadway
Look out!

Boys & Girls
CHORUS:
Boys go and shine up your shoes
Girls run and powder your nose
Cause tonight youll be shakin
From your head down to your toes
Well feeling youre cool is as good as lookin it
Thinkin yourre cool is as good as knowin it
Playin it cool is as good as blowin it
You know you cant spend a dollar
If you aint got a dime
You cant hook a fish if you aint got a line
You wont catch the bus if youre not there on time
So go read up your books and sharpen your hooks
Then all you need is money and a mouth full of honey
And if you play your cards right after dancin all night
You wont have to walk home alone
You wont have to walk home alone
Boys you can hang loose and slip up real cool
But if that lady has a love noose
She might never let you go
And if you think that maybe youre too young
And you just can not cope
The grab a razor sharp pair of cutting shears
And cut a hole right in the rope
Snip a hole right in the rope
Chorus
Well feeling youre cool is as good as lookin it
Thinkin yourre cool is as good as knowin it
Playin it cool is as good as blowin it
You know you cant spend a dollar
If you aint got a dime
You cant hook a fish if you aint got a line
You wont catch the bus if youre not there on time
Well if you wake up tomorrow morning
You cant remember what you did
Just ring up some of your friends
And theyll tell you just how low you slid
Oh dont be ashamed of anything you hear
After all you cant be blame
When youre drinking so much beer
Hey dont you worry
That what you did just wasnt right
Just remember brothers and sisters
After every days another night
Just remember brothers and sisters
After every days another night

Shake it Mable.
You look so good.
Everytime you shake it, Mable.
Hey Mable,
a-where ya' gonna shake it, Mable?
I'm goin' down to shake it down funky Broadway, baby.
Can I come along with you?
No you can't.
I'm gonna shake it all over funky Broadway, baby.
Hey Mable, can I come down to funky Broadway, baby?
I wanna come along with you.
I wanna come down to funky Broadway, Mable.

Back In My Arms Again
They always said that hindsights twenty-twenty
And when it comes to mistakes in love girl Ive got plenty
But the one that sticks out the most in my mind
Is the night I left you standing on the front porch drying
Living for the day I could make it all up to you
Till youre back in my arms, back in my arms again
Till youre back in my arms Ill be old lonesome till then
And honey I wont eat and I wont even sleep
Ill be walking these toes off of both of my feet
Till youre back in my arms, back in my arms again
Well Im getting to know this old town like never before
Walking every street knocking on every door
Girl wherever you are I want you back
I love you baby and Im sure about that
What ever it takes theres nothing that I wont do
Till youre back in my arms, back in my arms again
Till youre back in my arms Ill be old lonesome till then
And honey I wont eat and I wont even sleep
Ill be walking these toes off of both of my feet
Till youlre back in my arms, back in my arms again
I must have been a fool I confess
To ever let you go but I aint gonna rest
Till youre back in my arms, back in my arms again
Till youre back in my arms Ill be old lonesome till then
And honey I wont eat and I wont even sleep
Ill be walking these toes off of both of my feet
Till youre back in my arms, back in my arms again

On Broadway Entertaining Center Stage
I have a need to see my name in lights,
On Broadway.
And high as it blazes to shoppers...
Stopped on 5th Avenue.
I have a need to see my name,
On a theatre marquee.
And displaying what it is I do.
I want much more than 5 minutes of fame to claim.
Give me 15 minutes at least.
Give me 15 minutes to get folks on their feet.
I want much more than 5 minutes of fame to claim.
At least enough for people to spell my name.
At least enough to soak in,
Seeing my name spelled right in neon.
And me there on Broadway entertaining center stage.
