They All Laughed

The odds were a hundred to one against me
The world thought the heights were too high to climb
But people from missouri never incensed me
Oh, I wasnt a bit concerned
For from histry I had learned
How many, many times the worm had turned
They all laughed at christopher columbus
When he said the world was round
They all laughed when edison recorded sound
They all laughed at wilbur and his brother
When they said that man could fly
They told marconi
Wireless was a phony
Its the same old cry
They laughed at me wanting you
Said I was reaching for the moon
But oh, you came through
Now theyll have to change their tune
They all said we never could be happy
They laughed at us and how!
But ho, ho, ho!
Whos got the last laugh now?
They all laughed at rockefeller center
Now theyre fighting to get in
They all laughed at whitney and his cotton gin
They all laughed at fulton and his steamboat
Hershey and his chocolate bar
Ford and his lizzie
Kept the laughers busy
Thats how people are
They laughed at me wanting you
Said it would be, hello, goodbye.
But oh, you came through
Now theyre eating humble pie
They all said wed never get together
Darling, lets take a bow
For ho, ho, ho!
Whos got the last laugh?
Hee, hee, hee!
Lets at the past laugh
Ha, ha, ha!
Whos got the last laugh now?

A Song of Wrong [ You Laughed and Laughed and Laughed ]

In your eyes
My song is one of wrong
Intruding into your heart
And you laughed and
Laughed and laughed.
.
In your heart, you knew
I could be there,
Cause you brought me here.
And you laughed and
Laughed and laughed.
.
In your soul,
You knew I want you
In my home.
'cause you brought me hope.
And you laughed and
Laughed and laughed.
.
You laughed at my wrong
You laughed at my right.
You laughed over
Everything I do.
.
And now, my love I give to you
But you shut your eyes and
Laughed and laughed
And laughed.
.
You laughed at my walk
You laughed at my song.
.
You walked your walk
Into my life of wrong
Knowing all along
You could change me in all.
.
But you shot your heart
To my love
And you walked away from
My heart, and you laughed
And laughed and laughed.

You Laughed and Laughed and Laughed

I told you I was in love,
But you laughed and
Laughed and laughed.
.
I gave you my love,
But you did not give me yours,
Instead you kept mine, and
Gave yours to another.
.
You laughed at my song,
You laughed at my walk,
Then I danced my magic dance
to the rhythm of the talking
drums pleading.
.
But you shot your eyes, and laughed
And laughed and laughed.

A Sparrow

I was silent for a long time here
do not care about around me

when a sparrow greeted
' Why are you such a fool
sat there stunned? '

then he laughed
I laughed and told him:
'Do not go, keep me here'

'I thought to myself'

'What are you think? '

'a lot - not just a little..
do not waste your valuable time
to reflect on many things
that will make you worthless
for others'

then he laughed
and flew out of me

then I stand and laugh - laugh at myself

William Saroyan

I have always been a Laugher, disturbing people who are not laughers, upsetting whole audiences at theatres … I laugh, that's all. I love to laugh. Laughter to me is being alive. I have had rotten times, and I have laughed through them. Even in the midst of the very worst times I have laughed.

When Heard

I was told to approach them.
To tell them what the deal was.
And I was laughed at.

I did not give up.
I sacrificed my time to give to them.
And I was laughed at.

I healed from illinesses,
With pain felt from mending.
And still I was laughed at.

Now I laugh with feelings of being blessed.
And few think my laughter loud,
When heard...
Is funny!

The Woman at the Crossroad Who Laughed

As I walked up the pavement, up the slight hill
to the traffic lights at the crossroads outside the station,
I saw her waiting to cross.
Or rather, I saw first, her laugh..

She held the hand of her son
as she exchanged words with a passing friend
and laughed..

and what I saw in her eyes, her whole face,
as she laughed, was that as she laughed -
(did she know this? How could I tell her, a stranger?
Lady, lady, at the crossroad of our lives,
I’m writing this poem for you now…)

as she laughed, while she laughed,
I saw that she was in touch, the whole of her,
with her deepest self – just that… all that…
and as I saw that self, which was
(Lady, are you reading this?)
the perfection of perfection, all that’s perfect…

it was as if – no, it was just so –
her self looked at me, and so
the perfect looked at the perfect;

herself and mine together laughed,
laughed at imperfection

and as the perfect looked, it saw perfection
spreading through my eyes from our shared self
so that her son was perfect; and her friend was perfect;
and all around us, every they and it were perfect..

(Lady, Lady, at the Cross’s foot,
was it like this for You?)

the light turned green. And we were free
to cross the road; and
free to live; and
free to laugh away illusion; and
free to be ourselves; forever,
in that time which is forever.

Lady, by my faith, this by my hand;
and with my life I do yet swear
upon my life, this to be true;

Lady, hear, in this my orison,
there are no sins
to be remembered.

Illusion and Laughter

Are illusions made to be
laughed with, laughed at,
laughed away?

Is the human comedy also
a divine comedy? Should we
not wail, but share the joke?

The children’s party conjuror
and the handkerchief, the rabbit,
the flock of doves – they’re here, then
they’re not… we laugh
at our own disbelief.

This illusion that the world is real,
and that God does not look us in the face
at every turn, in every detail –

should we laugh, acknowledging
a good joke, and ourselves the butt;
remove our own false nose, and eyes and ears,
take out the incarnation from our buttonhole
which squirts squid-ink at unsuspecting friends..

applaud the conjuror?

Journey Discovered

He sat back watched and laughed
As the “Son of God” was persecuted
he sat back watched and laughed
As the “Son of God” quietly disputed
he sat back watched and laughed
As the “Son of God” was beat and spit on
He still did not budge, (Jesus)
he sat back watched and laughed
As the “Son of God” was nailed, torn, and stripped of His clothes
to end with a body full of holes
if only he knew
that it wasn’t through
the “Son of God” came to do what God had Him to do
save me and you
from the end
He bared our sins
sitting on His throne
Satan lost his grin
his world will soon come to an end

Laugh

Love laughed at you and made you blue
Now heres what you should do
Well laugh, though your heart is breaking in two
Yeah laugh, dont let them know he hurt you
Well laugh and pretend true love will come again
Yeah laugh, laugh and laugh
Laugh, though the one you love is really gone
Yeah laugh, even though youll be alone
Yeah laugh and pretend true love will come again
Yeah laugh, laugh and laugh
Well let me hear you laugh now
Though its hard, so hard for you to do
Laugh with me, cos you see
Ive been there too
Well laugh and pretend true love will come again
Yeah laugh and believe its not the end
Yeah laugh like a clown
Dont let your heart break down
Yeah laugh, laugh and laugh
Love laughed, its true
But look at you
Now youre laughing too

I am a complete mad man

Suffering of the people
Gives me a pain poisonous
In the heart rubs
The sorrow, the delirium delirious
Just to lessen the sadness
I laughed, the laugh was loud
Before I was very sane
Now I am a complete mad man.
Ha, ha, he, he, ho, ho.

People cut a joke make a fun
I don't care
As they are found
Coarse and blunt
The dullards
Dolling out dull
So I walk
Like a king insane
The owner of
The sun and the moon.
Ha, ha he, he ho, ho.

I could save myself
If I was a vagabond
Totally stoic indifferent
But I had a heart very sensitive
And could not bear the grief
Just to lesson it, I laughed,
The laugh was very loud
Before I was sane
Now I am a complete mad man.
Ha, ha he, he hi, hi ho, ho.

Everybody Laughed But You

Everybody laughed when I told them
I wanted you, I wanted you
Everybody grinned they humoured me
They thought that someone had spiked my tea
Everybody screamed they told me you
Would cost the moon, we'll be there soon
Everybody laughed till they were blue
They didn't believe my words were true
Everybody laughed but you
It's easy to lose touch with all the friends
You like so much or liked so much
Everybody laughed they couldn't take me seriously
Abandoned me
Sometimes I would read of things they'd done in magazines
They made the scene
Everybody left with such important things to do
But I'm not blue
Everybody left but you
Everybody left but you
Many years have passed
And some have fallen by the way I heard them say
Everybody dreamed but those who fell
Are sleeping now, they're sleeping now
Everybody climbed like ivy to the top most branch
It was their chance
Everybody grasped till they were through
It's all they thought that they could do
Cause everybody fell
Everybody fell
Everybody fell but you

Androgynous

Here come dick, hes wearing a skirt
Here comes jane, yknow shes sporting a chain
Same hair, revolution
Same build, evolution
Tomorrow whos gonna fuss
And they love each other so
Androgynous
Closer than you know, love each other so
Androgynous
Dont get him wrong and dont get him mad
He might be a father, but he sure aint a dad
And she dont need advice that he send to her
Shes happy with the way she looks
Shes happy with her gender
Mirror image, see no damage
See no evil at all
Kewpie dolls and urine stalls
Theyll be laughed at
The way youre laughed at now
Now, something meets boy, and something meets girl
They both look the same
Theyre overjoyed in this world
Same hair, revolution
Unisex, evolution
Tomorrow whos gonna fuss
And tomorrow dick is wearing pants
And tomorrow janies wearing a dress
Future outcasts and they dont last
And today, the people dress the way that they please
The way they tried to do in the last centuries

Untitled

People stare because I laugh
When there's nothing to laugh about
I know that if I didn't laugh
The tears would all spill out.

You see me when I'm all alone
I cry and scream and shout
I hit the wall and broke my hand
It bled: I laughed out loud.

Laugh Out Loud

Have we lost our sense of humor?
We must laugh on every day.
For without laughter life is dull
Like a stage without a play.

Funny little quips that people say
are the gems that sparkle and shine
Right within a placid soul
that's in need of bright sunshine.

So laugh inside, laugh out loud,
Laugh whenever you can.
And when you think you've laughed too much,
laugh out loud again.

An April Adoration

Sang the sun rise on an amber morn -
'Earth, be glad! An April day is born.

'Winter's done, and April's in the skies,
Earth, look up with laughter in your eyes!'

Putting off her dumb dismay of snow,
Earth bade all her unseen children grow.

Then the sound of growing in the air
Rose to God a liturgy of prayer;

And the thronged succession of the days
Uttered up to God a psalm of praise.

Laughed the running sap in every vein,
Laughed the running flurries of warm rain,

Laughed the life in every wandering root,
Laughed the tingling cells of bud and shoot.

God in all the concord of their mirth
Heard the adoration-song of Earth.

Scratch Your Way Out

She turned to me as I said hello
when I passed her down the hall
She forced herself to bring me a smile
but I think she didnt mind at all
In just two seconds, I said to her
you could have me down on my back
She laughed, laughed, laughed but I didn't care
she stroke me like a blitzattack
She looked so good
She looked so fine
but she will never look better than me
Burning up with fever again
and the fever was running high
I licked her face and asked her if
she wanted to lick mine
She looked so nice as I laid her down
with a shotgun placed in her mouth
I feel the tickle as I pull it of
and now I know there is no doubt that
She look so good
She look so fine
but she will never look better than me
