Alfred North Whitehead

I have suffered a great deal from writers who have quoted this or that sentence of mine either out of its context or in juxtaposition to some incongruous matter which quite distorted my meaning , or destroyed it altogether.

A Well Crafted Word

Why am I so philosophical, a philosopher a long time ago once wrote.
The song writer, script writer, poet and novelist like to use a great quote.
Some poems are written with a catchy rhyme and a theme.
A well crafted word can help and be a great writers dream.
Everyone knows that the pen is mightier than the sword.
A well crafted word can give the reader great reward.
'A metaphor is just like a simile'; An unknown author once quoted.
It's true about all writers I know, they all hate their words being misquoted.
To writers one and all, a well crafted word is always a must to write down.
Just remember this about all writers, they can make great use of a pronoun.

Quoted Out of Context

I've been quoted out of context,
By those who believed it easy to do.
I've been perceived as someone I didn't know...
By those who never spoke to me.
Or came within conversation close.
In other words,
I wouldn't know them 'if' we spoke.
I'm not generally talkative.
And with those I feel comfortable,
I may joke!

But being quoted out of context,
Is something done to others...
Who may provoke an unconscious mind,
To defend a thought process not being delivered.
And the best thing folks who twist the truth can do,
Is to find some way to undermine it!
Or campaign against the one who is unafraid,
By declaring the person crazed!
And suffers from some undisclosed issue and 'problem'.
They try to mask to hide and not themselves expose,
From overdosing in delusions or other escapades they've chosen.

There Is An Artistry Applied

So much more is this,
Just a gathering of English words.
There is an emotional attachment to them.
With every period ending,
Each sentence that begins.

There is a process of selection.
With time taken to choose the best.
And keeping it simple for many to digest.
Giving consideration...
To those using microscopes,
For word usage to correct.

But a delight excites,
With a choice to test the minds...
Of those seeking to uncover something profound.
And 'something' complex between the lines to find.

So much more is this,
Just a gathering of English words.
There is an emotional attachment to them.
With every period ending,
Each sentence that begins.

And there is an artistry applied,
Some writers use and try to induce the eyes.
By using words like 'seduction'!
That capture minds to a familiar light.
As if moths stunned!
To become hooked and hypnotized.

And if that process does not work...
Cuss words are universal.
They seem to always maintain their worth.
No matter what the intent or context.
Just toss a few around.
An attention given can be expected.

Caricatures

There are writers great and writers small
And writers on the spree;
And writers short and writers tall,
And bards of low degree.

There are artists small and artist great,
With lines both bold and free –
It takes a Low to illustrate
Us bards of low degree.

Distorted Angel

Strange things seem to occur, somewhere behind the nursery door
Though I was just a bit of a kid, it was the bit that she was looking for
Now I dont know where to begin confessing
The way shes making me feel it cant be a sin
I was taught to believe you were looking down on everyone
And your benevolent face is beautiful to gaze upon
Now I just dont know who to tell to go to hell
Who put the old devil in the distorted angel?
Distorted angel
Pure illuminated sweetness
Frightening small children is just about your only weakness
I thought that you would tell me what Im living for
But I cant see you anymore
I dont know what we did but Im sorry if it made you cry
And if theres any justice at all Id be punished for it Id surmise
It will mark the spot very well where I fell
Under the shadow of the distorted angel
Beneath the shadow of the distorted angel
Below the shadow of the distorted angel
Angel
Beneath the shadow of the distorted angel
Below the shadow of the distorted angel
Angel

Sesquipedalian (With Apologies To Ogden Nash)

My poems are somewhat, in fact quite a lot, not to put too fine a point on it, just a bit or, notwithstanding everything else I will say, a great deal sesquipedalian;

They are packed full, to wit, of long-winded words that don’t fit and ululating complicated and multi-syllabic, incomprehensible terms that feel almost alien.

I’m not sure if, for cash, that flash, brash Ogden Nash hasn’t had the notion of creating this version; if not, then he should have done

Or whether, if other bards in that scene had thought really hard of a means of fitting “sesquipedalian” in, they would have done.

But these trite tongue-twisters titillate the tonsils and test the talker

And I like lines that don’t quite rhyme, even though they ought to.

My odes ramble on as I try to make simile and metaphor fit.

I think it’s fine fun and that they just sound better for it.

But some of that ilk try to milk your emotions

With a totally misplaced unfounded notion

You should cram every short sentence;

Mine just go on and lengthen.

It’s not my fault that I chose

To be quite over-verbose.

Don’t have it in for me:

I’m seeking sympathy.

I’d love to be laconic,

But it’s just chronic.

Eschewing levity.

Going for brevity.

I really do lust

To be brusque.

I ought to

Be shorter

I’m sure I

Could try

Terse

Verse:

True,

Too.

By?

I?

But my poems are somewhat, in fact quite a lot, not to put too fine a point on it, just a bit
or, notwithstanding everything else I have said, a great deal (but I’m sure you won’t mind as I’ve reached the next line, which is where I should stop and let the matter drop) outstandingly boringly, snoringly sesquipedalian.

Four Main Types of Writers (personal opinion)

The Lonely Writer

Some writings tell me
This person is lonely
And is reaching out
For the touch of a friendly comment
These writers are sad, solitary,
Isolated, but good persons
And quite often very good writers

The needy juvenile writer

Some writings contain words
Or language meant to shock
And to offend.
These writers are lonely also
But in a different way.
These writers are simply saying
Like a little child
“hey! I exist! Someone better
Acknowledge me! ”
These writers can often write well
But usually don’t, can’t, or choose not to

The Spite Writer

This writer can be of either gender
But seems to be in a female majority
They’ve been spurned or rejected
Two-timed or lied to.
And they are going to vent their ire
In the most public way they can.
These writers can also be very good writers
But too often let their anger get in the way.

The Religious Writer

These writers show people passionate
And zealously devoted to singing the praises
Of the Lord and goodness and charity.
They’re probably austere, honest people
Who almost always write very well.
For the most part these writers seem
To want to spread the word and
At the same time tend to be rather singular
In the subject matter of their writings,
Rarely attempting other genres.
