Death of the Dear
The drought has destroyed everything, all around.
The sun has now melted and flown on the ground.
All that's left is the bare sky, which burns really hot.
From the wells, all the buckets draw black mud a lot.
And above the pale forests rise often bright flames,
Dancing wildly and playing satanic dark games.
I follow my father uphill through the scrub
I'm scratched by the fir trees, my body they rub.
We start our hunting of goats once again
On the mounts of our dearest Carpathian chain.
The thirst is oppressing. I see when I walk
How boil water droplets somewhere on a rock.
With head on my shoulder I seem to advance
On a huge, foreign planet, where I've fallen by chance.
We're waiting in silence, not far from a spring
Its waters are tinkling, we clearly can hear.
When the sun goes to sleep and moon climbs on a string
Then will come one by one
To drink water, the deer.
I'm thirsty, but my father is stopping me to cry
Intoxicating water, you're tossing, then you pause!
Thirst links me with the being that is about to die,
Despite the ancient customs and the laws.
A withered rustling stirs the peaceful vale
The evening in the universe expands
Blood smears the dark horizon, I barely can inhale
And on my chest I've wiped my bloody hands.
Ferns burn like on an altar, it's sublime,
And all the stars are blinking in the breeze,
Oh, how I wish you didn't come this time
You, charming victim from among the trees!
She comes out jumping, stops, ready to fly,
And looks around, there's no one on the grass,
Then her thin nostrils on the water lie
Making small ripples, which seem made of brass.
In her wet eyes a light is gleaming, pale,
She'll die and she will suffer; yes, I know,
I think I'm living in that fairy tale
With a sweet lady turned into a doe.
The moonlight now is starting to expand
It rains on her with cherry blossoms, white,
Oh, how I wish for once my father's hand
To miss the target in this summer night!
But the deep vales have rumbled and fallen on her knees,
She lifts her head astonished towards the stars that shine
Then plunges back; the waters begin to move with ease
And beads roll on the surface – black, transient and fine.
A blue bird in a hurry comes out of a big tree,
The life of the poor deer has quickly gone away
Like migratory birds, which when the autumn comes
Leave their beloved nests deserted, sad and gray.
Stumbling over the stones I go to close her eyes,
Which by the horns are guarded and they have lost their heat
I shudder and turn white when father comes around
And laughs and he is happy and says: - Now we have meat!
I'm thirsty and my father is waving me to drink.
Intoxicating water, you're tossing, then you pause!
I feel connected to the being who can't blink,
Because she died despite the customs and the laws...
But all the laws are useless and we cannot comply
When life in us is feeble, when we may even die.
And customs and the mercy we've left them in the past,
Because my sis is hungry, and sick, and breathes her last.
I gaze my father's rifle and smoke is coming out
There is no wind, however, the leaves dance in the drought!
Dad lights a fire quickly and I can see his smile,
The woods have changed so much in a short while!
I'm not aware, my hand has snatched with ease
A bell-flower, which tinkles in the breeze...
Then dad takes off a stick like a short spear
The kidneys and the heart of the poor dear.
What? I am very hungry! I'd like to live, but, Oh...
Forgive me, please, my lady – my fair and charming doe!
I'm sleepy. Woods are gloomy, the fire gives us heat!
I cry. What thinks my father? I eat and cry. I eat!

Ill Oil Wells Love You
I met a man in texas
And oh, he was so fine
And I said to myself
Self, Im gonna make him mine
He owned a lot of oil wells and his bank roll sure was healthy
And I new if I married him Id suddenly be wealthy
Oh Ill oil wells love you
Ill oil wells care
Ill oil wells need you
I want you oil wells dear
Well I never had no money
Not a penny to my name
And I said Id find a rich man
And Id love my way to fame
So he took mt in his arms
And I cuddled up real near
The money bug then bit me and I wispered in his ear
Oh, Ill oil wells love you
Ill oil wells care
Ill oil wells need you
I want you oil wells dear
He looked in to my eyes and thought he saw a love light shine
Nearly did he know that that light was dollar signs
Now that we are married there aint nothin left to tell
Well live happily ever after because all is well that ends well
Oh, Ill oil wells love you
Ill oil wells care
Ill oil wells need you
I want you oil wells dear

Upon this paper my life is written
Upon this paper my life is written,
a tree doubled over in pain.
The red ink flows over the skin,
full stops and commas are hair and stars:
eyes of sea left on ships,
destroyed houses, rusting girders.
This paper is as black as the storm,
destroyed villages where there is no fiesta.
This paper burns as reason does,
lightning in the sky flashes in its millions.
This paper is a sky where there is no God,
this paper is alone…
this paper does not fly…
this paper… it is I.

I know where Wells grow—Droughtless Wells
460
I know where Wells grow—Droughtless Wells—
Deep dug—for Summer days—
Where Mosses go no more away—
And Pebble—safely plays—
It's made of Fathoms—and a Belt—
A Belt of jagged Stone—
Inlaid with Emerald—half way down—
And Diamonds—jumbled on—
It has no Bucket—Were I rich
A Bucket I would buy—
I'm often thirsty—but my lips
Are so high up—You see—
I read in an Old fashioned Book
That People "thirst no more"—
The Wells have Buckets to them there—
It must mean that—I'm sure—
Shall We remember Parching—then?
Those Waters sound so grand—
I think a little Well—like Mine—
Dearer to understand—

El Nino The Thirsty One
Some weather experts told us el nino is dead
That we would have his rainy sister la nina instead
Of him but now the word is more dry and warm weather ahead
The drought to continue despite what we've heard and read
Old thirsty el nino is alive and well
For many he does make life an earthly hell
Because of him many farmers have committed suicide
Their hopes and their dreams by him have been destroyed
El nino is living despite what some weather experts do say
He is a survivor he will not go away
He sucks the dams and waterways dry and every dropp of moisture from the ground
Where drought is prevalent he is to be found
El nino the thirsty one is with us to stay
Despite what some of the experts on weather do say.

Family Farm (Season After Season)
his granddaddy built
the old house from the
ground with his bare hands....
that old tractor has plowed
fields season after season...
how many winters has
that old barn seen?
how many buckets of water
from that old well?
how many children
conceived and born
under that tin roof?
how many times has
that fence been mended?
how many potatoes and
canned goods stored
in that old cellar?
how many nights spent reading
by candlelight....
how many pensive eyes
staring through that window?
how many cows milked?
how many eggs picked up?
and that old dog who's
been here forever.....
tomorrow the 'bank's' coming
to take it all away.....
and all that's left of a family
is that which can be loaded
on his old truck...

Rainbow Not
I do not make rainbows,
But thunder from a different art -
I am kind to slaughter,
Death, nobody thanks her -
Clouds so dark in my sky,
Rain drops that makes me high -
Blue i do not see,
Not even in my sea -
I water pain everyday -
I seeked destruction,
Yesterday -
I do not play a flute,
I never will confront,
And obey - I battle my darkness,
I have no moon -
I see the sun,
Before the room -
Of death, i want to hide,
She has no sides -
I bare in mind,
Hours is also time -
I silk in the sand,
I bake by the land -
Waters of drought,
Am i on route -
The deeper i dig,
I dug with the pigs -
I want my soul to be clensed -
I have many broken bends -
I run, i saw,
The blade, by my blood,
Is which i draw - not to be found - not on the ground

I try to help people become the best possible editors of their own work, to help them become conscious of the things they do well, of the things they need to look at again, of the wells of material they have not even begun to dip their buckets into.

Let This Be Understood
We stand apart
We draw the lines
You are there
& I am here
We make an agreement
To maintain the differences
Between us
We understand to know nothing
About us
And there will no insistence
I draw a circle
When I get in you must be out
When I go out you must get in
We always exclude one another
That is the agreement
Or this house burns
On a short circuit
Or another one dies
shocked
on electric
execution
On parallel distances
All is safe, nothing burns.

Black And Blue
Slip n' slide, push it in
Bitch sure got the rhythm
I'm holding back, yeah, I got control
Hooked into her system
Don't draw the line
Honey, I ain't through with you
The harder the better
Let's do it 'til we're black and blue
Well, you never know when love will come
Gotta get it while you got it
A little bit of everything, even when it hurts
Sure feels good
Don't draw the line
Honey, I ain't through with you
The harder the better
Let's do it 'til wi're black and blue
Yo mama!
Black anbd blue
Gotta, gotta, gotta, make it right
Don't draw the line
Honey, I ain't through with you
The harder the better
We'll do it 'til were black and blue
Don't draw the line
Baby, I ain't through with you
The harder the better
Let's do it 'til we're black and blue

Waiting For The Rain
dead grass
cracking face of the earth
cinder stones
parched paths
thatched roof of the house
at the foot of
the tired body of the hills
dried creeks
rivers that run dry
wells without
drops of water left
hands in prayed
angel without wings
all these chant in prayer
waiting for
the first rain after a long drought
of summer

North Atlantic Drift
Meanwhile Rome burns
Meanwhile Rome burns
Its a cultural shift its the North Atlantic Drift
Americana and a rule Britannia
And the moon yes we own that to
And where the Euphrates meets the other rivers
Is now the home of the devil and the liar
And the pyre we plan to make
Is just the drift leaving its wake, home
Meanwhile Rome burns
Meanwhile Rome burns
And the films you want to watch
And the films you want to make
And the kids like lost angels
Dressed in black sensations
And the shift won? shake
And the drift won? brake
With billions of Diamonds growing like olives
And the drift holds the coffers
Meanwhile Rome burns
Meanwhile Rome burns
Meanwhile Rome burns
Meanwhile Rome burns
Meanwhile Rome burns
Meanwhile Rome burns
Meanwhile Rome burns
Meanwhile Rome burns

Buckets Of Rain
Buckets of rain
Buckets of tears
Got all them buckets comin out of my ears.
Buckets of moonbeams in my hand,
I got all the love, honey baby,
You can stand.
I been meek
And hard like an oak
I seen pretty people disappear like smoke.
Friends will arrive, friends will disappear,
If you want me, honey baby,
Ill be here.
Like your smile
And your fingertips
Like the way that you move your lips.
I like the cool way you look at me,
Everything about you is bringing me
Misery.
Little red wagon
Little red bike
I aint no monkey but I know what I like.
I like the way you love me strong and slow,
Im takin you with me, honey baby,
When I go.
Life is sad
Life is a bust
All ya can do is do what you must.
You do what you must do and ya do it well,
Ill do it for you, honey baby,
Cant you tell?

Depression destroyed my life
Depression destroyed my life.
It told me I was no good.
It told me I was all bad.
It told me I was not loved.
It told me I didn't deserve treatment.
It told me I deserved to die.
Depression destroyed my life.
I listened to what it was saying.
I told myself I was no good.
I told myself I wasn't loved because I was bad.
I didn't seek treatment to feel better.
I tried to kill myself for his entertainment.
Depression destroyed me.
I am left picking up the pieces.
He has left me alone.
He said it was to late for help now.
He left me scared and confused.
He is still here.
He wants to keep me.
And he will keep me.
Depression destroyed my life.
All I am asking is that it does not destroy yours.

The Kurdaitcha Tree
Out where the land lies in silence
And whispers it,
Where the sun burns on white skin
'Til it blisters it,
There the earth turns in the Dreamtime
Of Everland,
Bush turns to sand, and dry creek beds
In Neverland.
There lies a farm that has fought
And has weathered it,
Two hundred years, generations have
Gathered it,
Some say their harvest is naught
But a miracle,
Reaping where nothing grows, so
Says the Oracle.
Just enough rainfall to turn
Away famine,
Just enough stock feed to graze
Sheep and cows in,
There in the outback for five
Generations,
The family of Bevan has
Made supplications.
'Is there a God up in heaven?
Why isn't he?
Not in this cauldron of sunshine
And misery,
We could just do with some Mannah
From heaven,
Send down the rain, ' said young
Jacob John Bevan.
Jacob, the last of the line in
His battle,
Breaking his back, digging wells,
Driving cattle,
Steering his tractor along
The dry paddocks,
Beating the drought stricken ground
With his mattocks.
Spreading his seed and then
Watching it wasted,
Hoping for rain, though his God
Had misplaced it,
Crying to heaven to give
Some relief there,
Watching the earth shrink and crack
By his feet there.
Right in the heart of some barren
Dead parkland,
Stood an old tree, on its own,
In its heartland;
Blocking the tractor, obstructing
His ploughing,
A tree that stood tall, that the wind
Spoke to, soughing.
This was the tree that was known
As Kurdaitcha,
'Never cut down, ' said the native
Koradji,
'Some trees are spirits, and this
One much evil,
If it should fall, you will
Let out big devil.'
Four generations of Bevans
Had heeded,
Left the old tree, that parched land
Wasn't needed,
Now, with a break in the drought
Jacob swore,
'I'll need every inch of that land
To yield more.'
'Taking his axe, he went down there
And felled it,
Creaking and groaning, it toppled,
He quelled it,
Then he pulled out the old stump
With his tractor,
Dragged it away, but then
Never looked back there.
Deep in the night, in the still
And the darkness,
Something was beating, some creature,
But heartless,
Spread from the hole that the
Tree had kept hidden,
Took to the air from some
God awful midden.
Spread over trees and then
Covered the ground,
By morning they'd eaten each
Green thing around,
When Jake woke up early and
Stepped out of doors,
The locusts had covered the
Feed bins, and bores.
They covered the tractor, they
Caught in his hair,
They kept pouring out from
That paddock down there,
And when they had stripped and
Destroyed to the heart,
They headed due South, to
Consume every part.
The bodies of millions
Lay in the dirt,
As Jacob John Bevan beat
Hard at his shirt,
He went to the paddock to
Check the old tree,
The hole, it lay silent,
As silent could be.
But then a new rumble, of
Scampering squeals,
And now there were millions of
Mice at his heels,
'I've opened Pandora! ' Jake
Turned him to flee,
'The curse is forever from
This evil tree.'
Australia lies silent, and listens
For sounds,
That white men might make when
The sun, it goes down,
The rivers run dry and the drought's
Sea to sea,
Since one man cut down
The Kurdaitcha Tree.

The East Gippsland Fires
In East Gippsland the fires are still going miles of woodland and farmland and bushland destroyed
The huge fire front it keeps on burning it's way through the brown Countryside,
Fires started by thunder and lightning and fires started by human kind
Amongst every rural community a firebug or two you will find
For many East Gippsland farmers a financial disaster by drought conditions already hit hard enough
The fires that have burnt to death many of their animals in their paddocks has made life for them far more tough,
The fire quenching rains are not coming the fires raging onwards and on
But the financial stress for them will continue and their heartbreak with the passing of the fires will not have gone
A tough time for farmers in general and they are facing a very tough year
But when fire rages in drought ravaged paddocks sad stories of heartbreak we do hear,
Many homes have been burned to ashes wildlife and domestic animals to the flames have been lost
Between drought and fire many rural communities left burdened with the huge financial cost
Left by the fire that burned it's way through their Country financial recovery for them may take years
And they will remember the bushfires that blackened the landscape with tears.

To the Fringed Gentian
Thou blossom bright with autumn dew,
And colored with the heaven's own blue,
That openest when the quiet light
Succeeds the keen and frosty night.
Thou comest not when violets lean
O'er wandering brooks and springs unseen,
Or columbines, in purple dressed,
Nod o'er the ground-bird's hidden nest.
Thou waitest late and com'st alone,
When woods are bare and birds are flown,
And frosts and shortening days portend
The aged year is near his end.
Then doth thy sweet and quiet eye
Look through its fringes to the sky,
Blue--blue--as if that sky let fall
A flower from its cerulean wall.
I would that thus, when I shall see
The hour of death draw near to me,
Hope, blossoming within my heart,
May look to heaven as I depart.
