As actors it is easy for us to play the hero. We get to fight the bad guys and stand up for justice. In real life, the choices are not always so clear. The Hollywood Blacklist … was a time I remember well. The choices were hard. The consequences were painful and very real. During the blacklist, I had friends who went into exile when no one would hire them; actors who committed suicide in despair. … I was threatened that using a Blacklisted writer for Spartacus –– my friend Dalton Trumbo — would mark me as a “Commie-lover” and end my career. There are times when one has to stand up for principle. I am so proud of my fellow actors who use their public influence to speak out against injustice. At 98 years old, I have learned one lesson from history: It very often repeats itself.

After working for years in Hollywood where the actors have taken over, it was a real relief to get down there and not only have some children, but also have some actors that had no attitude.

We Affect Forever
We Affect Forever
We are making history, through every day we spend.
We are here, leaving our mark, a mark that will not end.
Others before have left behind this world we now obtain.
Though it’s changed since way back when, the old shall always remain.
History is how we got here, history is who we are.
History is what led to this, yes history is not far.
It remains within our families, its tradition and unchanging ways.
It’s Christmas day, Thanksgiving, its countless nights and days.
History is what you’re becoming; it’s what you are soon to be.
And history never dies; it’s a part of everybody.
We fight to maintain who we are, to maintain who we’ve always been.
And while we fight we know this fight is not easy to win.
Many forget the past, and many never even know,
Many people never hear of how times were long ago.
Those thousands of years before us, are more than just time spent.
They are filled with real people, real feelings, and real places that they went.
The People had different life styles very different from our ways,
But it is true that there is nothing knew under the sun’s golden rays.
Stand proud to be alive, know you affect forever.
Every act that we commit we all commit together.
We are entrusted with this earth; we must love and cherish this life.
We must remember to love our existence lest love becomes our strife.
Yes we are becoming history, through every move we make.
We are here, leaving our mark, a mark ……or perhaps a mistake.

You can think of Hollywood as high school. TV actors are freshmen, comedy actors are maybe juniors, and dramatic actors - they're the cool seniors.

They were looking for actors - real actors - who could play instruments. There was a lot of improvisation and scene work involved in addition to the music. The auditions went on for a long time.

There is a strange pecking order among actors. Theater actors look down on film actors, who look down on TV actors. Thank God for reality shows, or we wouldn't have anybody to look down on.

We Are Not Actors!
when millions of our ancestors died for the truth,
when millions of them never acted in their life,
when millions of us work hard with our only face,
who told that world is full actors and actresses?
memorized scripts are repeated,
repeated verses can be recorded and edited,
The director vision is visualized,
Rehearsal can make the scenes perfect.
we live a scene only once in real life,
no directors, editors and the script writer,
we live our life with emotions and blunders,
we feel every moment that is not felt by the actors,
who told that world is the stage and we are the actors?

Bankrupt On Selling
Well all the apostles-theyre sitting in swings
Saying Id sell off my savior for a set of new rings
And some sandles with the style of straps that cling best to the era
So all of the businessers in their unlimited
Hell where they buy and they sell and they sell all their
Trash to each other but theyre sick of it all
And theyre bankrupt on selling
And all of the angels
Theyd sell off yer soul for a set of new wings and anything gold
They remember
The people they loved their old friends
And Ive seen throughem all seen throughem all and seen through most everything
All the people you knew were the actors
All the people you knew were the actors
Well, Ill go to college and Ill learn some big words
And Ill talk real loud
Goddamn right Ill be heard
Youll remember all the guys that said all those big words he mustve
Learned in college
And it took a long time
I came clean with myself
I come clean out of love with my lover
I still love her
Loved her more when she used to be sober and I was kinder

I get bored at the theatre a lot because I notice that there's not always a connection between the actors. They may be technically proficient, but they're not surprising each other. I'm thrilled by actors who make choices that are surprising.

I think all great actors - and I don't classify myself as one of them, incidentally - but I think all great actors listen well and I've learned that from a lot of the very good actors with whom I've worked - to really listen to what people say.

Actors who are lovers in real life are often incapable if playing the part of lovers to an audience. It is equally true that sympathy between actors who are not lovers may create a temporary emotion that is perfectly sincere.

The crossover wasn't happening. TV actors were TV actors, and film and stage actors were a whole different thing. And now there's just a lot of crossover.

I think most actors are shy. I really do. The greatest actors can disappear. I had friends call me the Blend-In Man.

Sure, I have a lot of friends that are actors. Just because I guess I run into a lot of actors in my work.

I Will Not Stand Down
I will not stand down when my fellow man is in distress
I will not stand down when my fellow man I could bless
I will not stand down when my fellow man's life I could save
I will not stand down when I'm needed and not that brave
Their lives might have been saved, when ordered to stand down
They were attacked and shown no mercy; help was ordered to stand down
They asked many times and again but their back up was ordered to stand down
There were hero's that fought to the end, they didn't follow orders, and they didn't stand down
We lost hero's that night, and all because someone ordered Stand Down
I love America but so ashamed, someone at the top ordered that night Stand Down

The genuine artist is never ""true to life."" He sees what is real, but not as we are normally aware of it. We do not go storming through life like actors in a play. Art is never real life.

A Night at the Play
The lesson
A play
The actors
She and I
Act one, the scene, a night filled with sorrow
Outside the wind howls through the trees
Her line, I've had enough
In reply, his heart dies
Act two, it's more of the same
She's wanting time
Needing space
He's heartbroken and trapped
Is he going insane
As the play goes on
The actors are predictable, yet complex
They each stand their ground
Reluctant to give
Saying their decisions
Is a decision to live
The curtain opens
We begin act three
She's returned from far away
He longs to see her face
Though he now sees a look
Of shame and disgrace
The look and the words
They are one and the same
she's trying to move on
His hands shake
Crying bitterly, repeating her name
Welcome, sit down
Please shut the door
We've returned from intermission
The beginning of act four
A rushing climax
the crowd waiting patiently
Hanging on every word
Do they hope, will they cheer
Will wedding bells be the final
Music score
