Religion, mysticism and magic all spring from the same basic "feeling" about the universe: a sudden feeling of meaning, which human beings sometimes "pick up" accidentally, as your radio might pick up some unknown station. Poets feel that we are cut off from meaning by a thick, lead wall, and that sometimes for no reason we can understand the wall seems to vanish and we are suddenly overwhelmed with a sense of the infinite interestingness of things.

Come Along And Say You Will

Come along and say you will,
Be the one to change the meaning
Of the writing on the wall
The lonely politician
is lying in the hall.
Come along and say you can,
Be the one to take this feeling,
I'll never understand,
Why walk around the center
With a nail through your hand?
It's another way to run,
It's a lonely weekend
And what have you done?
You know you got
a reason to run, babe
You know you got
a reason to hide, babe
Come along and say you will,
Be the one to change the meaning
Of the writing on the wall
The lonely politician

Reinventing Your Exit

12th and Hyde on a Sunday
Feeling like we're grown
And we're nothing short of invincible
It starts again
Can you feel it
It takes your breath away
Stop saying that we're invincible
(it's round and round)
You're uninviting, unrewarding
And I'm misinforming you
We all want to be somebody
Right now we're just looking for the exit
This is the way I would have done things
Up against the wall
You've got me up against your wall
It's you and me on a Monday
The lies that we told
This is where we both go numb now
You broke my heart again this time
You're fading out, you crossed the line
We all want to be somebody
Right now we're just looking for the exit
This is the way I would have done things
Up against the wall
You've got me up against your wall
(reaching out for a hand thats not here, but you are here and im not...)
This is the way I would have done this
Up against your wall
This is the way we should have done
When we're up against a wall
Up against a wall

Depict This Different

Depict this different,
From the others sent.
This one has meaning.
With some evidence in it.

Depict this different.
Pick off the lint.
Wrap this around your mind,
Feel the warmth in it meant.

Depict this different,
From the others sent.
This one has meaning.
With some evidence in it.

Thaw the cold you hold in your heart.
Depict this different.
And don't let a freezing,
In you start.
Depict it!

Rub and cuddle up.
Depict it.
With purpose and a reason.
Appreciate each season,
With a new breath to breathe.

Depict this different,
From the others sent.
This one has meaning.
With some evidence in it.

Depict this different.
You can depict this different.

Depict this different.
You can depict this different.

Rub and cuddle up.
Depict it.
Pleased as a breeze.
Depict it.
Give your troubles up.
Depict it.
And be free.
Depict it.
Don't give them any hints,
Your mind's at ease.

Depict this different,
From the others sent.
This one has meaning.
With some evidence in it.

Depict this different.
Pick off the lint.
Wrap this around your mind,
Feel the warmth in it meant.

Depict this different.
You can depict this different.

Depict this different.
You can depict this different.

You can depict this different.
You can depict this different.
You can depict this different.

Depict this different.
Feel free.
To depict this different.
Feel free.
Depict this different.
Feel free.
To depict this different.
Feel free.
Depict this different!

Some Prefer What's On The Surface

It's in the meaning that comes,
That may not suit everyone...
With a getting to be done and quick.

It's in the meaning that comes,
That may not suit everyone...
With a getting to be done,
Before they run.

Some prefer what's on the surface,
And not below it to pick.
Some prefer what's on the surface,
With no thought attached to it.
Some prefer what's on the surface,
Since it's easier to get.
Without a picking up to leave to then split.

It's in the meaning that comes,
That may not suit everyone...
With a getting to be done and quick.

It's in the meaning that comes,
That may not suit everyone...
To pick up,
To leave to then split.

And many will prefer it to sit.
With...
A caring less of meaning in it.
Or...
Discovering themselves,
A meaninglessness.

No one wishes to discover,
A meaning exists.
Or bother to uncover,
A meaninglessness.

Keep The Radio On

Can you relate to what it says
The lyrics are straight from the heart
The soul is expressed in the lyrics
The virtues and vices are released
Chorus:
Keep the radio on,
This song means so much to me
Keep the radio on,
The words live right through me
The lyrics are comforting
Like I expressed them my self
Keep the radio on, the song speaks for itself.
Why cant you relate
To my way of thinking
Why dont you understand
All the things I am feeling
I am not a stranger to opinions
In fact I have my own
I am no stranger to delusions
Although you live through mine
Repeat chorus
Keep the radio on
Keep the radio on
The words have their meaning
Keep the radio on
Cant you feel what they are saying
Keep the radio on
Repeat chorus

Run, Run, Run

I was sitting in the field, feeling the grass.
Counting the stars as they come out.
Feeling (feeling) the breeze, (feeling the breeze)
Feeling (feeling) the spring. (feeling the spring)
Suddenly I noticed there wasnt light anymore.
Run, run, run, run, run to the light,
Run, run, run, run, run for your life.
I tumbled on roots, stumbled on stones.
Lost my marbles, stepped on my glasses.
Feeling (feeling) the air, (feeling the air)
Feeling (feeling) the wind. (feeling the wind)
Suddenly I noticed it wasnt fun anymore.
Run, run, run, run, run towards the light,
Run, run, run, run, run for your life.
I came out of the darkness into the house,
The lights were left on but nobody around.
Feeling (feeling) the room, (feeling the room)
Feeling (feeling) the space. (feeling the space)

Feeling, Colour And Meaning

Cannot see myself doing routine work today
cannot understand why this life on this planet
in this universe, feeling spiritually blind means
I cannot find a reason to do boring things - yet
my body breathes mindlessly, I am the ghost in
the machine seeking wisdom and insight as I can-
not feel anything and nothing has inherent priority

I simply follow the dictates of time to move through
this day to get to the end in order to be at leisure to
wonder some more, the day becomes one long maths
sum and I cannot do it, religion and spiritualists teach
we know the answers in advance and work backwards
from the end back to the beginning where I am sitting
now, but this knowledge does not help, I am still stuck

With a brain that cannot fulfil its function of relating to
the reality outside its own enclosure, my mind only exits
in short explosive flames of understanding which imme-
diately disappears leaving the inner me in darkness, I
love the ability to enact stories and plays yet cannot
create a script for today, left with shadows only I
long for feeling, colour and meaning

A Poem About Excitement To Something Huge And Spread Like Space

i am tiny, like a nit

wit, and i look at you

spread like wall paper on the wall

something is beautiful there
like a face

something in there excites me
like a pulse on my wrist

i am tiny and i feel so tiny
watching you

like a wall paper on the wall, you
are indifferent

i am excited like a chick hatching from
a shell

i am growing feathers
like a chicken

something in you is so huge like a world
that i have never been

i am excited like a puppy to my master
getting out of his car

i love this feeling, this tiny feeling
this world that is expanding

you are my world now, and i fall into
a regret,

when tiny becomes lost
and when the hands melt while groping for the
truth

about beauty that is lost
about existence that is deleted

simply because you are too huge
like space

and i, this atom, unseen,
colliding,
invincible, and now unknown.

Feel Me

“Feel me to do right,” our father said on his deathbed.
We did not quite know—in fact, not at all—what he meant.
His last whisper was spent as through a slot in a wall.
He left us a key, but how did it fit? “Feel me
to do right.” Did it mean that, though he died, he would be felt
through some aperture, or by some unseen instrument
our dad just then had come to know? So, to do right always,
we need but feel his spirit? Or was it merely his apology
for dying? “Feel that I do right in not trying,
as you insist, to stay on your side. There is the wide
gateway and the splendid tower, and you implore me
to wait here, with the worms!”

Had he defined his terms, and could we discriminate
among his motives, we might have found out how to “do right”
before we died—supposing he felt he suddenly knew
what dying was. “You do wrong because you do not feel
as I do now” was maybe the sense. “Feel me, and emulate
my state, for I am becoming less dense—I am feeling right
for the first time.” And then the vessel burst,
and we were kneeling around an emptiness.

We cannot feel our father now. His power courses through us,
yes, but he—the chest and cheek, the foot and palm,
the mouth of oracle—is calm. And we still seek
his meaning. “Feel me,” he said, and emphasized that word.
Should we have heard it as a plea for a caress—
a constant caress, since flesh to flesh was all that we
could do right if we would bless him?
The dying must feel the pressure of that question—
lying flat, turning cold from brow to heel—the hot
cowards there above protesting their love, and saying,
“What can we do? Are you all right?” While the wall opens
and the blue night pours through. “What can we do?
We want to do what’s right.”

“Lie down with me, and hold me, tight. Touch me. Be
with me. Feel with me. Feel me to do right.”

Your Kind Of Lover

Now you say you're leaving me
I just can't believe it's true
You're my kind of lover
Wanna little bit of feeling
Add a little bit of meaning to my life
I wanna little bit of feeling
A little bit of sunshine to my life
I wanna be your kind of lover
Give a little bit of feeling
Just a little bit of feeling
Add a little bit of meaning to my life
I wanna boogie down with you, brother
Boogie down with bassman
Win love on the grandslam
I'll be there waititng when you call.
Just step right into my heart
Come a little closer
Don't tell me that it's over
Make a brand new start
We can work it out just next to nothing
Work it out, work it out just next to nothing
With feeling, feeling, feeling, with feeling
We can work it out
Let me show what I can do,
I can be your kind of lover
We can work it out
Let me show what I can do,
I can be your kind of lover
I wanna be your kind of mother
Let's talk about loving right
Don't talk about doing wrong
Put a little bit of sense into your mind
We gotta talk it out man to man
Make each other understand
Right now a little happiness would be fine
Just step right into my heart
Come a little closer
Don't tell me that it's over
Make a brand new start
We can work it out just next to nothing
Work it out, work it out just next to nothing
With feeling, feeling, feeling, with feeling
We can work it out
Let me show what I can do, I can be your kind of lover
We can work it out
Let me show what I can do, I can be your kind of lover
Your kind of lover

Short

The depth of life
The length thereof
The depth of a life
The years thereof
The depth of your life
The distance from your first wisp of
Earth's worried air of
Life to the finish line of
A life well lived or of
One which was spent waiting for
The future which may or may not
Hold you in it for
Today is given you to
Make all the difference you can and to
Smell all the flowers you can and to
Love as deeply as you can and to
Let laughter break some ribs and to
Let rain drown your tears and to
Give yourself away and to
Worship as truly as you can and to
Leave your worries in yesterday then
Do the things fear won't let you do then
Say the things that matter most then
Do the things you haven't done then
Do the things you have to do and then
Give a life a meaning
Find life's meaning
Hidden in love's meaning
And your life meaning
Breathing in God's meaning
And pick up a book of meanings
To check the short meaning
Of short and find that that's the
Aching distance from the
First intake of air to the
Last release of the same.

Money (Thats What I Want)

I saw you just the other day
And I could not help but I look yxour way
You see youve got this special look
That has got me completely hooked
Pictures on the wall, pictures everywhere
Pictures on the wall, everywhere I stare
Pictures on the wall, the ceilling and the floor
Im in a mental room and I cannot find the door
Will this feeling ever go away or will this feeling stay
Will this feeling ever go away
'Cause I cant live the rest of my life this time
I see your face in the clouds in the sky
I see your face before my eye

The Fog

You see, Im all grown up now.
He said,
Just put your feet down child,
cause youre all grown up now.
Just like a photograph,
I pick you up.
Just like a station on the radio,
I pick you up.
Just like a face in the crowd,
I pick you up.
Just like a feeling that youre sending out,
I pick it up.
But I cant let you go.
If I let you go,
You slip into the fog...
This love was big enough for the both of us.
This love of yours was big enough to be frightened of.
Its deep and dark, like the water was,
The day I learned to swim.
He said,
Just put your feet down, child.
Just put your feet down child,
The water is only waist high.
Ill let go of you gently,
Then you can swim to me.
Is this love big enough to watch over me?
Big enough to let go of me
Without hurting me,
Like the day I learned to swim?
cause youre all grown up now.
Just put your feet down, child,
The water is only waist high.
Ill let go of you gently,
Then you can swim to me.

Fears of A Mad Man In The Office

forgive me
i am an unthinking human being
i am exhausted
and feeling like a wall of a house
the roof makes no sense to me
or the stairs
which she finds
to be filled with meaning
i am not that road
i go nowhere
and i do not stretch
to places
forgive me
but i am too tired to think about what you are thinking
now
it is my fingers
simply moving
and not knowing what it is doing
just following the water of the river
without fish
and moss
forgive me
for having wasted your time
i am tense
and i have fears about things that yet to come
i do not even know
i am afraid
and so forgive me
i am contagious and may destroy what ever mood
you may have today
and so forgive
me for taking you to the last line of this poem
it is this
nothingness that attacks me
like a bullet in my head
and so
forgive me
i am dead or

i am just playing dead because i am afraid.

Whats Her Name Today?

Whats her name today?
Whats her name today?
She could be anyone
I might have known youd leave her crying
Whats her name again?
You should be ashamed
How could you treat her so unspeakably?
Or did you think she was a different girl?
For as the radio played in the bedroom wall
What was that name you called her?
Was she the one who took away your pride
And your reason?
Oh, why did you decide that
Youd punish any girl you meet
To try and make that feeling go away?
Whats her name today?
Whats her name today?
Is her hair hanging down?
Or maybe its fixed with a ribbon
Are her eyes still blue?
Should she trust in you?
Because its a lonely world
She wants to believe for a while in all the things you say
But as the radio played in the bedroom wall
What was that name you called her?
Isnt her smile reminiscent of someone else?
Well, is it or isnt it?
Oh, why did you decide that
Youd punish any girl you meet
To try and make that feeling go away?
Whats her name today?
Is she going to stay
So you can ruin her?
And soon shell be twisted in chiffon
Dress her like a doll
String her like a pearl
She hears peals of bells, but its hard to tell
Now that shes hung up like a chandelier
Whats her name?
Whats her name?
Whats her name today?

A Man Wrote Because He Had Nothing Else He Could Do

A man wrote because he had nothing else he could do-

Even when the writing lost its Meaning
He had no choice but to go on with it
Until the Meaning came back-

And in his quiet sadness and obsession
And in his pain and loneliness and rage
And in his putting all his feeling in his words
One small echo of redemption sometimes perhaps came
Which said:

Somewhere else there is a Universe with or without words
In which whatever you are or do is responded to by 'Yes'.

Part Of The Wall

I know you just don't fit in,
I know no one likes you,
I know what you are going through.

Mirror, mirror on the wall,
Do I fit into the human race?
Or will I be part of the wall?

You were born with superpowers,
The ones that make you invisible girl,
You look at your self and say ugly,
But when I do I see beauty.

Mirror, mirror on the wall,
Do I fit into the human race?
Or will I be part of the wall?

You just love your self,
Cause you don't fit in,
Yeah, I know what that fells like.

Mirror, mirror on the wall,
Do I fit into the human race?
Or will I be part of the wall?

Close your eyes,
And think of the friends you have,
Laughing with you,
You are popular in my eyes.

Mirror, mirror on the wall,
Do I fit into the human race?
Or will I be part of the wall?

You are the wall paper,
Reds, green, and blue,
You might never fit in,
But don't worry,
I'll be friends with you.

Mirror, mirror on the wall,
Do I fit into the human race?
Or will I be part of the wall?

Ohhhhhhh
La, la, la, la, la

Ohhhhhhh

La, la, la, la, la

Mirror, mirror on the wall,
Do I fit into the human race?
Or will I be part of the wall?
