Battling The Builders

I have to admit that the Great Crested Newt
Is not that good looking and isn't too cute.
But when plans were unveiled for hundreds of homes
To be built on land where the said newts roamed,
Many local residents protested ‘This isn't right! '
And, against the builders, they began a long fight.

The newts lived in a meadow, next to a big pond:
To relocate them all, would have been so wrong.
Pound signs were what the builders were seeing,
But the Planning Committee considered the newts' well-being;
Of destroying the newts' habitat, they weren't big fans,
And so they rejected the building firm's plans.

The Great Crested Newts may be fairly small,
But they battled the builders, who towered so tall.
The newts and local residents won the day,
And they sent the team of builders on their way.
Now the threat of relocation is over and gone,
With their lives, the Great Crested Newts can carry on.

The Builders Of The City

You never will find their names on a memorial wall
And any memories of them historians never do recall
The builders of the City who lay with the unsung
Many of them came from distant shores and spoke in a foreign tongue
They more than earned every penny that they were ever paid
The builders of the City yet little of their achievements made
Devoted to the family and devoted to the wife
They worked hard so their children could enjoy a better life,
The builders of the City so much to them we owe
Though nothing written about them and of them little we do know
They built the housing estates, City buildings and City Mall
Though nothing of their life achievements is ever made at all
They lay the rail tracks to the City and made the Roadways through the Countryside
Yet in the builders of the City we never do take pride.

The Ships that Won't Go Down

We hear a great commotion
'Bout the ship that comes to grief,
That founders in mid-ocean,
Or is driven on a reef;
Because it's cheap and brittle
A score of sinners drown.
But we hear but mighty little
Of the ships that won't go down.

Here's honour to the builders –
The builders of the past;
Here's honour to the builders
That builded ships to last;
Here's honour to the captain,
And honour to the crew;
Here's double-column headlines
To the ships that battle through.

They make a great sensation
About famous men that fail,
That sink a world of chances
In the city morgue or gaol,
Who drink, or blow their brains out,
Because of "Fortune's frown".
But we hear far too little
Of the men who won't go down.

The world is full of trouble,
And the world is full of wrong,
But the heart of man is noble,
And the heart of man is strong!
They say the sea sings dirges,
But I would say to you
That the wild wave's song's a paean
For the men that battle through.

Go Let It Out

Paint no illusion, try to click with whatcha got
Taste every potion cos if yer like yerself a lot
Go let it out, go let it in, go let it out
Life is precocious in a most perculiar way
Sister psychosis dont got a lot to say
She go let it out, she go let it in, she go let it out
She go let it out, she go let it in, she go let it out
Is it any wonder why princes & kings
Are clowns that caper in their sawdust rings
And ordinary people that are like you and me
Were the keepers of their destiny
Im goin leaving this city, Im goin drivin outta town
Your comin with me the right time is always now
To go let it out, go let it in, go let it out
To go let it out, go let it in, go let it out
Is it any wonder why princes and kings
Are clowns that caper in their sawdust rings
Cos ordinary people that are like you and me
Were the builders of their destiny
Were the builders of their destiny
Were the builders of their destiny
Were the builders of their destiny
So go let it out - go let it in
Go let it out - dont let it in
Go let it out - go let it in
Go let it out - dont let it - dont let it in

The Cow In Apple-Time

Something inspires the only cow of late
To make no more of a wall than an open gate,
And think no more of wall-builders than fools.
Her face is flecked with pomace and she drools
A cider syrup. Having tasted fruit,
She scorns a pasture withering to the root.
She runs from tree to tree where lie and sweeten.
The windfalls spiked with stubble and worm-eaten.
She leaves them bitten when she has to fly.
She bellows on a knoll against the sky.
Her udder shrivels and the milk goes dry.

Separating The Mind From The Heart

Here we go again
Their is blood in the water
From those who thought they were smarter
A castration with humiliation
You can't defy the laws of gravity
What is will always be
At least so it seems.

Separating the mind from the heart
Trying not act so torn apart
I was took under
I made a blunder
I still hear the sound of thunder

But when you are just so down are your luck
One more can never be enough
Just never enough
Symptomatic to the climatic
Drama gots her needs
She is the devil
And walks inside me

Here we go again
Their is blood in the water
From those who thought they were smarter
A castration with humiliation
You can't defy the laws of gravity
What is will always be
At least so it seems.

Separating the mind from the heart
Trying not act so torn apart
I was took under
I made a blunder
I still hear the sound of thunder

Far from perfect
Every flaw is desired
If only I can be rewired
Set my soul on fire
Let burn brighter
Let it reach the farthest shore
A beautiful coast to most

Here we go again
Their is blood in the water
From those who thought they were smarter
A castration with humiliation
You can't defy the laws of gravity
What is will always be
At least so it seems.

Separating the mind from the heart
Trying not act so torn apart
I was took under
I made a blunder
I still hear the sound of thunder

I tear up the letter
Burn it
I Just can't read no more.
It is the wrong door.
The one that leads
Oh god I ask you please
Have mercy

Here we go again
Their is blood in the water
From those who thought they were smarter
A castration with humiliation
You can't defy the laws of gravity
What is will always be
At least so it seems.

Separating the mind from the heart
Trying not act so torn apart
I was took under
I made a blunder
I still hear the sound of thunder

He cackles ha, ha
Now I got you my son
You will come undone
Like a string I'll pull
Watch it all unwind
As that clock tics on the wall
Fall, Fall, come just fall
Its not that far down
What are you really afraid of

Here we go again
Their is blood in the water
From those who thought they were smarter
A castration with humiliation
You can't defy the laws of gravity
What is will always be
At least so it seems.

Separating the mind from the heart
Trying not act so torn apart
I was took under
I made a blunder
I still hear the sound of thunder

The better
The masters,
Welcome to your disaster

Wall Of Fire

Standing at the end of the horizon
Looking at another setting sun
Nature gave us all these toys to play with
But weve abused them, each and every one
They stretched the chord, snapped the wire
Lit the fuse but cant retire
Were going to the wall of fire
Tip-toeing on the great high wire
Lets have a real fire
The city slickers built the great illusion
Now theyre the first to crumble in the sun
Now were going through the wall
Lets see the flames before we fall
Were going through the wall of fire
Lets have a real fire
Tip-toeing on the great high wire
Through the wall of fire
We drove on many rocky roads together
Through the storms and hurricanes we rode
Unified so no one could destroy us
We stretched the bounds
But always kept the code
Liberals shout and cause concern
Forget next week while we all burn
Lets run right through the wall of fire
Lets have a real fire
Death-defying while the flames grow higher
Through the wall of fire
Lets go through the wall of fire
Running through the wall of fire

The Wall That I See

always this wall
this wall, always, this,
wall, always
i see, and face, and
grasp, and feel
with my palms, and touch
with my fingers

never love it
but i am in here surrounded
always, by this, wall,
this, wall, this wall,
always, i dream of
overcoming this, wall
this height,

i dream of ladders,
and tall feet, and i always,
look beyond this,
this wall, this.

The Wet Blankets Of Childhood

he is tired
drowsy

in the middle
of this stage
he finds images of
melting
memories

same as the old metal
wall clock
dripping on the
wall

floors like
brown sugar mix
with the
carpet and the
shoes

you smell black
pepper
and steam rice
you see
scalding fish
skin
fins separating
like
locks of hair

the feeling is
liquid
flowing like
the usual
river
that you have
been picturing
since

childhood where
you can still
hear the
dissolving laughter
on that
early night earthen
bowl

when darkness is like
a cloak
finally covering
your eyes

neither hot
nor cold
until
you fall asleep

as pain
too
diffuses
like drops of
rain from
the ceiling
to your
bed

Bertolt Brecht

Questions From a Worker Who Reads

Who built Thebes of the seven gates?
In the books you will find the names of kings.
Did the kings haul up the lumps of rock?
And Babylon, many times demolished
Who raised it up so many times? In what houses
of gold-glittering Lima did the builders live?
Where, the evening that the Wall of China was finished
Did the masons go? Great Rome
Is full of triumphal arches. Who erected them? Over whom
Did the Caesars triumph? Had Byzantium, much praised in song
Only palaces for its inhabitants? Even in fabled Atlantis
The night the ocean engulfed it
The drowning still bawled for their slaves.

The young Alexander conquered India.
Was he alone?
Caesar beat the Gauls.
Did he not have even a cook with him?

Philip of Spain wept when his armada
Went down. Was he the only one to weep?
Frederick the Second won the Seven Year's War. Who
Else won it?

Every page a victory.
Who cooked the feast for the victors?
Every ten years a great man?
Who paid the bill?

So many reports.
So many questions.

His Writings On The Wall

when he was writing about
walls
he wrote the words on the walls
and they were arranged
like walls
from wall to wall his description
about the wall was
consistently like a wall
walling in all the walls
around the wall
where he was writing
consistently and
uniformly the word

wall, wall, wall, wall
and then nothing but a train of walls like this

wallwallwallwallwallwallwallwallwallw allwallwallwallwallwallwallwallwallwallwall
of course, he did notn add any smoke from steam engine
neither did he add any children and women and even men riding on the
train of walls
there was no driver even
or wheels

what he stressed was just a wall, a wall train, a wall nothing but a wall
walling him in
but what he really wanted at the end was something that should wall him out

something however that until now he is still trying to figure out

Wallflower

6x6 - from wall to wall
Shutters on the windows, no light at all
Damp on the floor you got damp on the bed
Theyre trying to get you crazy - get you out of your head
They feed you scraps and they feed you lies
To lower your defences, no compromise
Nothing you can do, they day can be long
You mind is working overtime, you bodys not too strong
Hold on, hold on
They put you in a box so you cant get heard
Let your spirit stay unbroken, may you not be deterred
Hold on, you have gambled with your own life
And you face the night alone
While the builders of the cages
They sleep with bullets, bars and stone
They do not see your road to freedom
That you build with flesh and bone
They take you out - the light burns your eyes
To the talking room - its not surprise
Loaded questions from clean white coats
Their eyes are all as hidden as their hipppcratic oath
They tell you - how to behave, hehave as their guest
You want to resist them, you do your best
They take you to your limits, they take you beyond
For all that they are doing theres no way to respond
Hold on, hold on
They put you in a box so you cant get heard
Let your spirit stay unbroken, may you not be deterred
Hold on, you have gambled with your own life
And you face the night alone
While the builders of the cages
They sleep with bullets, bars and stone
They do not see your road to freedom
That you build with flesh and bone
Though you may disappear, youre not forgotten here
And I will say to you, I will do what I can do
You may disappear, youre not forgotten here
And I will say you you, I will do what I can do
And I will do what I can do
And I will do what I can do

Pudding Time

You can have a lolly pop
A candy bar a jelly bean.
Ill buy you a rainbow
To hang above your door.
Its pudding time.
Laughter is a sweet
You cant put a price on.
When laughters all gone
Daddy wont buy you more.
Its pudding time.
Its pudding time children.
Money money money
To buy you things.
Daddys gonna buy you a
Diamond ring.
Humpty dumpty sat on a wall
Humpty dumpty had a great fall
All the kings horses and all the kings men
Couldnt put humpty together again.
San francisco bay the
Striped bass are dying.
But youre gonna get
That brand new bike
Oh joy
Its pudding time
Its pudding time children.

You'll Repeat Those Same Old Mistakes

Memories can be precious while others are rued,
Some can play games with your mind,
Many can even be misconstrued,
While others can and do make you blind.

Recollections are what teach us all we know,
They are part of our reason for living,
What we learn from them dictates how we grow,
Though some can be so unforgiving.

Bad ones we tend to want to forget,
Good ones we all want to last,
Whether it's with fondness or deep regret,
They're an integral part of our past.

The secret of memories is they come from within,
Why so when they're made from without,
Separating good from bad, where do you begin,
Though it's a must to get rid of self-doubt.

You can't discard memories by throwing them away,
Although for some it'd be great if we could,
Throughout our life reminiscences hold sway,
If only they could all be good.

They predetermine what our future will hold,
By separating right from wrong,
Our interpratation determines how our lives unfold,
By teaching us where we belong.

The very nature of memories can irk and annoy,
Dealing with them is what you must learn,
You must deal with what hurts and the good then enjoy,
Don't let the bad ones cause you concern.

If from hurtful memories you try to hide,
Then the devil inside you awakes,
By trying your damnedest to cast them aside,

Seeing Beyond the Fog

I can see what you've written
On the wall beyond the fog
Separating me from the edifice
Of fame that eluded me for too long

I live waiting on happier souls
Whose fortunes are so much more
Than my stacks of assets all whole
While I slave away at my next list of chores

As the writings slowly pass me by
I try to make the words dance to music I create
But my passing glow is still just a lie
And my sand is falling. my days are growing late

My failure to break through the fog
And erase the curses written on the wall
Will eat away at me before long
Until I have no more will to fight at all

The fog surrounds me now
I can see what's on the other side
But I cannot hope to break through anyhow
So I'll try and take my ending in good stride.

Now I Know Why It Must Rain Sometimes

there is no significance at first
when age is a little boy, the moon is the moon
nothing else, the wind is like anybody's wind
mother's breaths, like a pillow,
such a small world, of less significance
are the little things, unaccounted
laughters are laughters, sighs are sighs,

but today, the metaphors keep hovering
over my hair, like some flowers in my dreams
turning into butterflies, somehow,
the window becomes a framework of
my future, the door an opportunity
that i, as a pair of hands, must either close
or open,

this is it, every word is accounted and saved
and then something grows,
seeds are words now, and the flowers my deeds.

it rains sometimes, a cry for an unburdening.
sleep is again cruel to me.

The Great Wall

the builders
at the apex
of their monument
of sufferings

two thousand years
away from us

now quiet as the breeze
that carresses a calm

nonchalant birds cruise
and lifts themselves
above us all excited to
see who could climb
to the top

some two thousand steps
from the start of the wall
at Badaling

and there have our
pictures taken
to be hung in
home sweet home
two thousand miles away
