You Called Me A Cow
it was an ideal vacation for us all:
a final frolic with three years’ worth of friends
one month before we were scheduled to graduate
and then migrate in opposite directions
we’ll never be together like that again
beautiful weather all five days –
temperatures in the seventies, just enough clouds –
docile waves belly-flopped upon immaculate sand
and the velvet ocean air caressed my slumbering face
as I awoke every mellow morning
what an auspicious way to start a day!
my friend and I chatted as we tanned ivory bodies
sprawled across a clean hotel-owned sheet
shamelessly wallowing in delicious laziness
so eager to embrace the long-absent sun
in short, I was perfectly content
for the first time in months
my friend and I attacked the waves
thrashing, shouting, laughing
breathless as we emerged
a droplet beaded on each little hair
and the salt beginning to bake into our skin
our eyes met as I was returning to my beach towel
and I know from bitter experience
that your malignant glare can result in no good
my head has an instinct to drop, my shoulders to hunch
when I find myself in your sinister presence
nudging your closest minion in his visible ribs,
you pointed directly at me and uttered a “moo”
loud enough that all the heads around us turned
and ripped me to pieces with their condescending eyes
with tears stinging my ocean-dehydrated eyes,
I could not have been more vulnerable
if I were beautiful, I would have laughed you off the beach
I wasn’t humiliated because you called me a cow
I was humiliated because you plundered my felicity
by forcing me to publicly accept a harsh reality
I do such a fine job of denying
I am not an attractive person by any standard
these wide, pudgy cheeks and this sagging chin
give my head the unfortunate shape
of an upside-down floret of broccoli
and I drag around twenty extra pounds
on my petite, childlike skeleton
no amount of harsh cleansers and creams
will ever clear my complexion
of its discoloration and acne scars
and I wonder why it’s been four years
since a boy last dared to kiss me
under all these blemishes and disfigurements
lies a sensitive and emotional person
easily damaged by your calculative malice
how dare you treat another human being like that?
burn in hell, motherfucker

Too Many Waves
They weren't friends by any means,
but they waved just the same.
They were going in opposite directions
from where they had just came.
Countless more waves followed,
but no one had anything to say.
I suppose that is the way things are
when you go in the opposite way.
When you cut a wave by direction
the cut heals without delay.
There are just too many waves to count,
when you sail the opposite way.

08' Graduate
This poem is dedicated especially to the Graduating Class of 2008 from Mitchell County High but also to all Graduates of 2008 (the best class)
What more can I say,
other than that we've been waiting too long for this day,
this day will live in our memories as one of the best days.
Today is the day that we graduate.
Its a sad-happy occasion
because we're leavin behind our best years
just like we will leave our joyous tears
right here on this field.
Before now, at this moment,
I could only imagine how it would feel
to wear this cap and gown,
to walk across this stage,
to get my diploma,
and to have my family
to be so proud of me...
Now that its here, I'm wondering 'how could it be
that these final four years
went by so quick? '
To know that after this day, many of our friends
we may never see again,
that we will be moving on to bigger things in life
fearing nothing except fear itself
because we know watever we do
we will only find success
because success is not an option,
its our way of life...
We are the greatest class to ever graduate.
We are the class of 2008...

The Dying Ex Football Champion
Around his bed his friends and family but of them he's not aware
His life's journey about to end old Joe the ex footballer player
On his back his eyes closed to his surroundings the life from him ebbing away
Last month he celebrated his eightieth birthday and today his life's final day.
Pre-deceased by his wife Mel she died five years ago
The last two years of his life's journey for him painful and slow
Most of those he played with and against in his football years to the Reaper long gone
But like the battler that he is to the end he's battling on.
Fifty five years ago the Captain of the great Premiership team
By football fans from near and far he was held in high esteem
But time takes care of everyone and everyone means all
And time has also taken toll of the champion of football.
Around his bed his friends and family a silent vigil keep
The end of his life's journey no more than an hour away he is in his final sleep
'Tis a fact those who love life do find it hard to die
But 'tis also a fact that all human beings are mortals and facts do never lie.

How Can You Keep On Moving
(agnes cunningham)
(c) - (f) - (g)
(c) how can you keep on moving un (f) less you migrate (c) too
They tell ya to keep on moving but (g) migrate, you must not do
The (c) only reason for moving and the (f) reason why i (c) roam
To move to a new lo (g) cation and find myself a (c) home
I can't go back to the homestead, the shack no longer stands
They said i was uneeded, had no claim to the land
They said, "come on, get moving, it's the only thing for you"
But how can you keep moving unless you migrate too
Now if you pitch your little tent along the broad highway
The board of sanitation says, "sorry, you can't stay"
Come on, come on, get moving it's their everlasting cry
Can't stay, can't go back, can't migrate, so where the hell am i
How can you keep on moving unless you migrate too
They tell ya to keep on moving but migrate, you must not do
The only reason for moving and the reason why i roam
To move to a new location and find myself a home

I hate unemployment
I hate to be unemployed.
I used to think that I am a smart graduate.
I entered into University with a lot of hard works,
and I wish to become a success career lady one day.
I worked for 15 years plus,
but I am not a successful office lady.
Due to office politics,
I quit my job due to angers and hatred.
Actually I start to regret,
because I have been unemployed for 2 years and 3 weeks.
I wish to go back to work.
I wish to receive my monthly salary by every month end.
If I have salary on hand,
by month end I will go to shopping.
I will go for a facial treatment at least twice a month.
I may join gym and learn yoga everyday after work.
I may join slimming course.
But now I am unemployed.
I have spent mostly all my savings.
I applied more than 500 jobs in these 2 years.
God know what had happened towards me!
My name is ruined.
My reputation is gone.
I have no professionalism and integrity in the public
because my name is greatly ruined.
I cried.
I cry.
I was depressed.
I am depressed.
I am undergoing depression treatments.
Who care me?
Instead who care me!
I cry. I cry and I cry...

Happy They Have Been Able To Please
At one time,
People were complaining...
No activities for them were scheduled.
Today,
More than enough diverse activities...
Are scheduled for those wishing to participate.
And there are those calling from their windows,
That the planners of the activities...
Should have not scheduled them,
On the same day.
And that is why they have chosen,
Not to take advantage...
Of any those choices made available.
And the ones caring less,
Who is expressing what and for what reason...
Come and go to do as they please,
With a doing to get done...
Keeping prioritized,
From Sundown to Sunrise...
Their own focused motivations.
At one time,
People were complaining...
No activities for them were scheduled.
And the naysayers are still there,
Supplying from one event to another...
Their unsolicited critiques.
And the planners,
Who have scheduled such activities...
Are thrilled and happy,
They have been able to please...
The wants, wishes and needs of everyone.
They seem to be anyway.
'My goodness.
How were you all able to do this? '
~Excuse me?
I had earplugs in my ears.
We all do.
Most of us have removed them.
Those of us on the committee.
Do you mind repeating that?
What was it that you said? '

The Merry month of May
O THE month of May, the merry month of May,
So frolic, so gay, and so green, so green, so green!
O, and then did I unto my true love say,
Sweet Peg, thou shalt be my Summer's Queen.
Now the nightingale, the pretty nightingale,
The sweetest singer in all the forest quire,
Entreats thee, sweet Peggy, to hear thy true love's tale:
Lo, yonder she sitteth, her breast against a brier.
But O, I spy the cuckoo, the cuckoo, the cuckoo;
See where she sitteth; come away, my joy:
Come away, I prithee, I do not like the cuckoo
Should sing where my Peggy and I kiss and toy.
O, the month of May, the merry month of May,
So frolic, so gay, and so green, so green, so green;
And then did I unto my true love say,
Sweet Peg, thou shalt be my Summer's Queen

Ensemble Fete Rustique
I am assembling conversations
Of two former buddies
Who really like each other
Not as lovers
But as pure friends
And much as they really want
As brothers
They wanted to be
On same direction
Taking together
A path they love
But as fate would have it
Each had
Opposite directions
One went south
The other north
For years each
Thought about
The other what
Happened and
Where must he
Be now living
One fine day
They see each
But as norms dictate
Of course
One cannot kiss
The other
They shake hands
Like nice gentlemen
And they sit
And talk
No one cries
Each will be
Calm and rigid
“you are
flourishing! ”he stoically said.
“you look
real good! ”, he is unmoving,
they have not
seen each other
for 30 years
but as norms
would have
it, they pretend
that there is
no softness
involved
that there
exists no
feelings like
that of a
lover long lost
and now is
found.
Each saw the light
And each has opted
For a compromise
They have to be
Blind just the same
When they first
Parted as buddies.

My Final Bow
Summer is almost over
And school is almost here
I can't believe how fast its gone
As I cry a silent tear
No more sleeping in
No more staying up real late
But back to dreadful school again
The place I love to hate
More studying and homework
Time to buckle down
Tinstead of going out every night
And riding around the town
Everyone is on our backs
About every little thing
I just can't wait
For the final bell to ring
More and more stress
Is piled on by the day
I wana pull my hair out
Why can't I have a say
All the things they teach us
How little they mean to me
I just wana get outta here
And finally be free
This is my final year
It's both happy and quite sad
Where I will go from here
Is a mystery at hand
All my friends and family
Are here to see me now
As I finally get to graduate
And take my final bow

Bullies On Vacation
A bully enjoying his vacation
Oblivious to all our confrontations
Speaking fondly of his junior years
When I was fighting tears
A bully enjoying his vacation
I can taste the anger and the hate
I have come to set the record straight
Twenty years seems long enough to wait
A bully enjoying his vacation
Cruising with my nemesis on high seas
Five drinks, he doesnt recognize me
Full of anticipation
I dont notice his depression
Cruising with my nemesis on high seas
My act of concern is just to tease
Im about to send him to his knees
So close to force him begging please
He mentions terminal disease
A bully enjoying his vacation
And how he feels someone is dangling
His vile existence on a string
And now the sea hes conquering
Knows he can conquer anything
A bully enjoying his vacation
Aware of his terminal condition
Frustrated by my indecision
Knowing Id regret this very day
I hit him anyway
Aware of his terminal condition
Once again, he got the best of me
I left him conquering the sea
A bully enjoying his vacation

I Want A Vacation
I want a vacation
For saying a word or two to you
See the moon just when
It lands in your eyes.
I want a vacation
To hold your hands for a while
And walk a few steps to anywhere,
To feel you even if for a moment.
I want a vacation
Just to do anything
To let you know I still care
And see a smile cross your face.
I need a vacation
For coming out from within
To be with you just once
And hold onto it forever!

Journal Jotting
Andalusia, pursued by Furies, may have a panic disorder.
Will it work?
$150 per month, divided between the kids by the grandmother.
Will it work? Out?
Zulemma's final workday
misty, warm and gray
cold, though, in the subway.
Coming from both directions
the trains are loud-
vent irony syllables,
throwing down light and kicking up sparks.
Next?

Graduate
Can I graduate
Can I graduate
Can I look in faces that I meet
Can I get my punk ass off the street
Ive been living on for so long
Can I graduate
To the bastard talking down to me
Your whipping boy calamity
Cross your fingers, Im going to knock it all down
Can I graduate
Echo fading we cant let go
She goes walking by in slow mo
Sell your heart out for a buck
Go on fade out before I get stuck
Talking to somebody like you
Do you live the days you go through
Will this song live on long after we do
Can I graduate
Can I look in faces that I meet
Can I get my punk ass off the street
Wont die on the vine I want to knock it all down
Can I graduate
Echo fading, candle blow
Did you flash out long ago
Cross my fingers, I dont know
Someone poked you down below
Can I graduate
Can I graduate
Can I graduate
Can I graduate
Can I graduate
Can I get my punk ass off the street
Can I look in faces that I meet
Im not waiting here for you to die
Will this song live on long after we do

The pity of pities
In a year,
You brought me
Ten years younger.
In a month,
You sent me
Ten years older.
In a year,
You exuded my
Hormones to that of a lad.
In a month,
You defused it
Far less to one older than me.
In a year,
You kindled me
To soar to the peak.
In a month,
You bundled me
To plummet to the ditch.
But in a year,
You activated in me
The finest faculty.
It is in a month
That you motivated
It to result in fruiting.
In a month of setting,
Impulses suffered a lot.
Intellect reaped a lot.
Stress breeds in one
The best
Though in the process,
It upsets
Him, the pity of pities.
Can you put me back
To saddle high in the track?

Living On A Fixed Income
I've come up with a plan,
To help budget my fixed income.
And I am sure,
Those like myself...
Who can barely exist from month to month,
Will find this to be exactly what they have been seeking.
I have decided to eliminate the last two weeks of each month.
And I awakened realizing,
How much time, money and energy I could save.
I've taken all my calendars...
And just cut away the last two weeks from each month.
Not only am I feeling better about it,
I'm already planning to take a vacation...
With the excess savings.
Who knew how simple it could be,
To make living on a fixed income...
Such a wonderful experience.
And with those weeks I've cut away?
I've decided to donate them to people complaining,
How they wish they had more time to do 'stuff'.
Not only will they have more time on their hands...
Perhaps they will stop complaining, period!

A Bare Truth
I am in the present perfect
Where I have always been,
Finally reaching
Something of my own
Which makes tomorrow
A day worth following...
As I rise with the orange glow
Of an enterprising ideal
That is too ardent
And possessive to let go...
I may be unknown and alone,
But the real one is ready
Apart from here
And has become part of the world
I am striving for...
Separating the many
Halves of me
And sorting them
Into the infinite good or bad
I am most likely to succeed...
The Cause is the ideal,
The ideal is the principle
And the tempter's key
Which unlocks or fastens
The door of immortality...

Final Exams
Final Exams are such a big hassle
But I suppose it is worth all the stress
If it is for the cap, gown and tassel
Even though I wish the stress was much less
If only the finals were trouble-free
No one would worry this much or freak out
And we'd be done quick and effortlessly
Finals being easy? I really doubt
So I'll keep trying to get a good grade
And from a big college I'll graduate
Then when I'm a doctor, I'll have it made
But first, my finals, before it's too late
So here I am, still taking my exam
Using everything I just had to cram
