My Hometown
I was eight years old and running with a dime in my hand
Into the bus stop to pick up a paper for my old man
Id sit on his lap in that big old buick and steer as we drove through town
Hed tousle my hair and say son take a good look around
This is your hometown, this is your hometown
This is your hometown, this is your hometown
In '65 tension was running high at my high school
There was a lot of fights between the black and white
There was nothing you could do
Two cars at a light on a saturday night in the back seat there was a gun
Words were passed in a shotgun blast
Troubled times had come to my hometown
My hometown, my hometown, my hometown
Now main streets whitewashed windows and vacant stores
Seems like there aint nobody wants to come down here no more
Theyre closing down the textile mill across the railroad tracks
Foreman says these jobs are going boys and they aint coming back to
Your hometown, your hometown, your hometown, your hometown
Last night me and kate we laid in bed talking about getting out
Packing up our bags maybe heading south
Im thirty-five we got a boy of our own now
Last night I sat him up behind the wheel and said son take a good
Look around
This is your hometown

Hometown Honeymoon
Hey baby, won't you take my hand
And make me a happy man
I ain't rich but I found my fortune in you
Two jobs on the nighttime shift
I'm still left with an empty fist
But my heart is full and my love is true
We can still get married in the style of our friends and family
Gather all of them to celebrate while we slip out quietly
And have a hometown honeymoon
Wildflowers and love is in bloom
We'll have a hometown honeymoon just me and you
Hometown honeymoon
Get out of church and up to your room
We'll have a hoe-down afternoon
Dancing to the rhythm of love
We can sing and laugh out loud
Lifestyles of the poor but proud
Cuddle up on the porch and enjoy the view
We can't afford Niagara Falls
But there's a fountain by the old town hall
We'll make a wish by the light of a lover's moon
I'll get my Grandma's wedding ring
And my brother's Chevrolet
We can stay at your mama's house;
We don't have to go away
To have a hometown honeymoon
Wildflowers and love is in bloom
We'll have a hometown honeymoon
Dancing to the rhythm of love
Instrumental
Your daddy's prize possession
I'll make a good impression
I'm gonna get his blessing
That's all we need
Hometown honeymoon
Wildflowers and love is in bloom
We'll have a hometown honeymoon just me and you

Get out of church and up to your room
We'll have a hoe-down afternoon

Hometown
Whatever place you hang your hat
you call that your home.
Whatever town you live in
you call that your hometown.
My hometown is a naval port
and at any given time,
you will see sailors there.
Men who go out in boats large and small
to face the fury of the tides
wherever they may go.
They face the wind and the lashing seas.
Sometimes they wish
for calm waters where the sun shines,
where the warmth there stills everything.
However, they are always happy
when they come back to shore
and their hometown once more.

Hometown Hero, Paul Ryan
Every town has one, big or small
a role model for all and hero to all
he grew up here from all his life
setting example for us, giving his all
getting help along the way
giving back along the way
Stepping up when it count
without a doubt
some will hate him, some will love him
now he is in the big lights
going to be a big guy in life
heading down the road, to go campaigning for what he thinks is right
first the Senate, now the Vice President
where the road goes who know
one thing I know, he's a hometown hero
win or lose he has hometown folks here
we will take him no matter what
for he is our hometown hero

Hometown Hero
Words and music: paul dean, bryan adams, todd carney, taylor rhodes
Were gonna break away
The engines hot and running
Well take this nowhere town
And turn it into something
Were gonna lose control
And set the wheels in motion
Well, were stoking our claims
Yeah, theyll remember our names
Going down in a blaze of glory
Going out in a flash of light
You know it goes with the territory
When you run the night
You wont to be a hometown hero
And nothings standing in your way
Take it all the way from zero
Never fade away
Now you and I can make it happen
Show you what its all about
Well take the night
And turn it inside out... yeah... inside out
They say that eagles dare
While others only follow
Youve got to raise the stakes
And bet against tomorrow
Storm the barricade
And cross that line of fire
When the damage is done
You know, the legend lives on
Going down in a blaze of glory
Going out in a flash of light
You know it goes with the territory
When you run the night
You want to be a hometown hero
And nothings standing in your way
Take it all the way from zero
Never fade away
Now you and I can make it happen
Show you what its all about
Well take the night
And turn it inside out... look out
(solo)
You want to be a hometown hero
Nothings standing in your way
Take it all the way from zero
Never fade away
Now you and I can moke it happen
Well show you what its all about
Well take the night
And turn it inside out... oh yeah
Well, you want to be a hometown hero
Well turn it inside out
You want to be a hometown hero
Well turn it inside out
You want to be a hometown hero
Yeah

New Home Town
(randy goodrum)
Therell be friendly faces everywhere you look
Like that magic page inside your coloring book
And well begin again
And find our strength again in our new hometown
And theres a house beside a pond inside our woods
And every winter it becomes the neighborhood
Therell be a snowman then
And skaters everywhere in our new hometown
(chorus)
So dont be afraid, little princess
When the train finally reaches tracks end
Every step of the way, Ill be one heart beat away
Little princess, tomorrow starts right now
In our new home town
Theres a room inside our house thats mine and yours
And I promised you feel safe and so secure
Well have a better life, a little paradise
In our new hometown
(chorus)
So dont be afraid, little princess
Cause our journey has come to an end
Every night every day Ill be one heart beat away
Little princess, tomorrow starts right now
In our new hometown

Airplane
Up on the airplane
Nearer my God to thee
I start making a deal
Inspired by gravity
If I did wrong I wont do it again
Cause I can be sweet and good and nice
And if I had enemies their friends
Ill hold to my life with the grip of a vice
And Im up on the airplane
Nearer my God to thee
I start making a deal
Inspired by gravity
That little spot on the ground is my hometown
I like to call it my home and its sweet
Id rather take a seat down there
Than a throne up here up above 30,000 feet
And Im up on the airplane
I never should have read my horoscope
Or the fortune on the bubble strip
Saying what you think wont happen will
A great thing to read before a trip
On an airplane
Pilot says the big blue skys like a swimming pool
Big fluffy clouds like a feather bed
Id rather have a real pillow underneath my head
Lying in my bed which is in my hometown
Which is on the ground
Far from an airplane
(my bed my hometown)
Far from an airplane
(on the ground my bed my hometown)
Far from an airplane
(on the ground my bed my hometown)
On the airplane
(on the ground)
[Ill be making a deal]
On the airplane
(on the ground)
[Ill be making a deal]
On the airplane
[Ill be making a deal]
[Ill be making a deal]
[Ill be making a deal]

A True Story of Love
Two years ago, I met a young girl who's mom was in and out of her life
Then her father and uncle died a few mounths apart, So her mom was
forced back into her life. They came to my hometown, to visit my cusin
for she and the young girl's mom was childhood friends. We met when
they all came to my place, me and the young girl fell in love.It was a doomed love for she was only 15 and I was 36. We was only together
a few mounths, then I got her pregnent. We got along at first then
we started fighting.we moved back to her hometown to be with her
family, while she was pregnent, and I got a job there. She had our child,
she was so very wonderful, and did a good job haveing our son.I owe
her tremendessly! I thought we might not fight any more. But we did
and things got out of hand.I took off with our son to my hometown,
she stayed with her grand parents. We talked every night, and agreed
to work things out.Her mom brought her back down to stay with me.
Then we got into a fight agian. The cops was called, they locked me up,
took her to the hospital.Even thow I did'nt hurt her. Then they called
her mom to come get her and our son.Her mom could'nt come get her,
so they placed her and our son in foster care. She did'nt act right in
the foster home, so they split her and our son up.Now shes in a group
home and our son is still in foster care.I hear she is going to be placed in an apartment in my hometown when she turns 18, in a mounth
from now. But I can't return to my hometown because social services
has brought up charges on me, for contributeing to a minnor, because
we had a court order to not talk to each other. But we wrote to each other any way.The leters where confenscated by her worker. Now I'm
loseing out on a love!

Chicago
Chicago, chicago, that toddlin town
Chicago, chicago, Ill show you around (youll stay around)
Bet your bottom dollar you lose the blues in
Chicago, chicago, the folks who visit
All wanna settle down. (all wanna settle down in my hometown)
On state street, that great street, I just wanna say,
They do things they dont do on broadway,
Youll have the time, the time of your life
Bring all your friends, all your kids and your wife to
Chicago, chicago my hometown. (hey now baby--)
(oooh baby)
Youll have the time, the time of your life
Bring all your friends, all your kids and your wife to
Chicago, chicago my hometown.

A Sheltered Life
Never been to england, never been to france
Never really learned how to dance
Ive never taken dope and Ive never taken drugs
Ah, Ive never danced on a bear-skin rug
Guess its true, what all those people they say
Im gonna have to loose my hometown ways
Guess its true, guess Ive led a sheltered life
Never went around with anything
Ive had a hometown life, and I have never learned to swing
Not much of a life, I havent seen much
Ive been true to my wife and its just been too much
Guess its true, what all these people they say
Im gonna have to lose my hometown ways
You know its true, guess Ive led a sheltered life
Guess its true, what all those people they say
Im gonna have to lose my hometown ways
Guess its true, guess Ive led a sheltered life

Little Bitty
(tom t. hall )
Have a little love on a little honeymoon
You got a little dish and you got a little spoon
A little bitty house and a little bitty yard
Little bitty dog and a little bitty car
Well, its alright to be little bitty
Little hometown or a big old city
Might as well share, might as well smile
Life goes on for a little bitty while
A little bitty baby in a little bitty gown
Itll grow up in a little bitty town
Big yellow bus and little bitty books
It all started with a little bitty look
Well, its alright to be little bitty
Little hometown or a big old city
Might as well share, might as well smile
Life goes on for a little bitty while
You know you got a job and a little bitty check
Six pack of beer and television set
Little bitty world goes around and around
Little bit of silence and a little bit of sound
A good ole boy and a pretty little girl
Start all over in a little bitty world
A little bitty plan and a little bitty dream
Its all part of a little bitty scheme
Well, its alright to be little bitty
Little hometown or a big old city
Might as well share, might as well smile
Life goes on for a little bitty while

Hometown Blues
Baby cant wait
Baby gotta go
Gonna do a number
On the late night show
Do a little song
Do a little dance
Gonna make the best
Of her big chance
Dont really matter
If she dont or if she do
Tryin to make the best of
The hometown blues
I got a friend
Got a little girl
Said shes the best
In the whole wide world
Said it so good
Said its unreal
Might not last
But its no big deal
Dont really matter
If she dont or if she do
Tryin to make the best of
The hometown blues
Baby, save me, save me, save me
With your sweet smile
Honey, I really need your love
To help me kill a little bit o time
All of the girls
Run with the crowd
They go wild
When the lights go down
They got a little money
Live in a dream
Wanna be the queen
Of their little scene
Dont really matter
If she dont or if she do
Tryin to make the best of
The hometown blues

Star
I'm standing in the face of the storm
where I will learn which way to go
I feel like I am true to form
But still I want to take it slow
I know from the past
where I'm wrong
so let things come in a different way
I am waiting for a star to fall down
need someone around
from time to time
when I'm walking the streets of my hometown
is there someone for me to find
Now time has come to say goodbye
to all the things I couldn't find
wherever I might go tonight
at least I have made up my mind
I know from the past
where I'm wrong
I'll let things come in a different way
I am waiting for a star to fall down
need someone around
from time to time
when I'm walking the streets of my hometown
is there someone for me to find
I know from the past
where I'm wrong
so let things come in a different way
I will be there (I am waiting)
I will be there (for a star to fall down)
someone from time to time
I will be there (when I'm walking the streets)
I will be there (of my hometown)
Is there someone for me to find
I am waiting for a star to fall down
need someone around
from time to time
when I'm walking the streets of my hometown
is there someone for me to find

Peaceful And Warm
I went driving through my old hometown
It was Thursday the bright sun on the horizon
I was surprised to see no one had burned it down
It seemed so peaceful and warm
Floods of memories came back to me
All the things we got away with when we were younger
And I felt kind of like a refugee
Like a scattered pile of leaves in a storm
Peaceful memory like lights on a Christmas tree
Every hometown should be peaceful and warm
Every father mother sister brother friend of the family
Peaceful and warm
Somehow now and then didn't seem to blend
'Till a farmer plowing his field waved hello
Another working man doing the best he can
I hope he is peaceful and warm
Peaceful memory plows in the green field sea
Every hometown should be peaceful and warm
Every father mother sister brother friend of the family
Peaceful and warm
On the Kansas banks of the Muddy Mo'
I threw rocks in the river and dreamed of running away
In a wind of change only a father knows
In a world so hectic so cold
I guess my old hometown's kinda dead and gone
Miss the sign on I-29 and you blow right by
But it's a place I can go remember where I come from
It will help me keep me peaceful and warm
Peaceful memory the only thing that's free
Take them and try to be peaceful and warm
Every father mother sister brother friend of the family
Peaceful peaceful and warm

On Yonge Street
See the people walkin up and down
See the people movin all around
On the streets of my hometown on yonge street
Longest street in the world they say
Summertime soon slips away
I hope Ill see you one fine day on yonge street
Everywhere you go in a city by the lake
Back there in the flow you may give a hand a shake
Everyone you pass seems to wanna say hello
Even late at night on the freshly fallen snow
See the children jumpin all around
See the parents looking up and down
Upon the streets of my hometown on yonge street
Its a mean street if you choose
Its a lean street when you lose
An in-between street when you cruise on yonge street
Everywhere you go in a city by the lake
Youll be sure and find its a case of give and take
Everyone you pass seems to want to say hello
Even late at night when the streets are all aglow
Its the longest street in the world
With the most feet in the world
Another street where boy meets girl on yonge street
See the people walkin up and down
See the people movin all around
Those are the streets of my hometown on yonge street
Everywhere you walk people almost say hello
Even late at night when the streets are all aglow
On yonge street
On yonge street

Welcome To My Hometown
Has anyone ever tried,
To tell you the kind of childhood you had?
Or the environment you spent,
Your yourthful days in...
As if you were on on tour,
And they were explaining it?
Has anyone ever told you,
About those grade schools you attended.
With an embelishment done,
As if you were on the sidelines...
Looking on for fun.
And they attempted to tell you,
About those teachers who taught...
And you seldom saw them in a classroom at all?
Welcome to my hometown.
Where any visitor who comes,
Would think what took place...
Was straight from a portrait painted,
By Normon Rockwell.
Welcome to my hometown.
Where actual events can be erased,
With a replacing of the truth...
To conveniently be mentally innovated,
For the sake of giving it a different face.
I had been often told how my parents were,
When they were raising me.
What they did and how I responded.
As if I had lost all memory.
I even had been told what I did with friends.
And what apartments they lived in.
While as a child growing up in the projects...
I would listen to these tales,
And wondered where I was when the teller of this...
Spent most their time locked up in jail.
Welcome to my hometown.
Where actual events can be erased,
With a replacing of the truth...
To conveniently be mentally innovated,
For the sake of giving it a different face.
Welcome to my hometown.
Where any visitor who comes,
Would think what took place...
Was straight from a portrait painted,
By Normon Rockwell.
And back then...
Anyone looking like Normon,
Would have been chased out of the neighborhood...
I lived in!
With no time to sit, sketch...
Or paint a portrait from a 'hand-me-down' myth.

My Hometown
On back down in my hometown
Everybody's feelin' it bad
No new breaks, whatever it takes
Not to have to sway it on a classified ad
Hey there Ma and Pa here I am
Money's running out all the same
I just close my eyes and bring it on home again
Up real late in New York state
Talkin' to my baby at night
She keeps me warm and protects me from harm
Love just keeps on rollin' when the money gets tight
Hey there Ma and Pa where I am
Money's running out all the same
I just close my eyes and bring it on home again
Oh Mrs. Memory just take me on down
Back to the shanties and the cars by the lake
Oh Mrs. Memory just take me on back
Back to my baby and make it okay
Yeah just make it okay
On back down in my hometown
Everybody's feelin' the same
Good money spent on keepin' the rent
Sent in to the man under a week late
Hey there Ma and Pa were I am
Money's running out all the same
I just close my eyes and bring it on home again
I just close my eyes and bring it on home again

I've Never Been
I've never been a soldier or fought in a war
And though from my old Hometown I have travelled far
I have never grown wealthy and never known fame
And I feel happy that few even know me by name.
I've never been anyway useful at sport
At football or golf or on the tennis court
Some call me a loser those with words who are cruel
In the age of aggression the most aggressive rule.
Though some of the big World out there I have seen
A God fearing person I never have been
Of the one known as God only good things we hear
And if god is all good then him why should we fear?
Though I have travelled far from my old native home
I have never been to the Coliseum in Rome
Or been to the Pyramids or seen China's great Wall
In the future such memories I won't have to recall.
I have never been good at any one thing
And others my praises they never will sing
The hard roads of life I have walked up and down
And I live many miles from my northern Hometown.
