This One Meal

This one meal mom just made
All this food she prepared
This one meal, I remembered
Mom and I had a deal
She said 'Just Eat It'
I stared at the bread I just bit
Watching mom throw away the leftover
Did she even think about the world hunger?
I tried to stop thinking about all this
I couldn't look at my full dish
I cannot hide it
It is too hard, ..
All the world hunger..
From which people die
All this food mom just threw away
Kidney Beans, Sausages, Potatoes...
If only she thought of what she was doing
Throwing away all this food
If only she thought
of what this food could do
save lives, prevent hunger..
Help people live their lives longer..

To Seek Food

Hunger is to seek food,
Food has one eye and one ear.
The food we abstain from are the heads,
The food is caring over us, and we maintain
Our lives with the food of the day.
Liquors are taken as food,
With a brain too bright,
A table and a cook is required,
Forming my life as a whole.

Overweight with Food

Are you just a tub of lard and
Vastly overweight?
Do you think that when you die you'll
Need a piano crate
To act as coffin for your frame? -
Chosen as you die in shame, with
Only you to take the blame
For years of eating much the same:
A daily calorific fest
Gourmands of your ilk digest!

Is your heart in final fling and
Nearly set to burst?
Are your arteries bunged and clogged and
Feeling now the worst
For wear? - your aneurysm fit to blow
While blood as thick as rising dough
Cries 'Halt! ' to any hope of flow:
A dreadful state to put on show
In front of any nurse!
Best you hail a hearse.

The hunger

the hunger thinks the rice
can chew both skin and bone
the hunger thinks it's nice
to eat although forlorn

the hunger thinks the corn
can swallow ears and eyes
deaf blind hunger born
self eaten within it dies

the hunger thinks the food
is just a body's unfair breath
the hunger knows the interlude
no food the body eats itself

the hunger thinks the body rotten
is just a place to survive and eat
the hunger of the lost and forgotten
makes its way to the last heart beat

Evening Hunger

When hunger came
I went to kitchen
Cooked rice
Made a soup of chicken

Hunger lessened
Had a glass of wine
Felt not comfortable
To have the food alone

Took the mobile phone
Called to him
Who lives same as I

Welcoming sudden invitation
He is to come
Prepared the table for two

Second glass of wine
Toasted with the friend
We had a happy time
Talking about problems

Transcendent solution
To the boarding evening

Tomorrow
How it will be

Hunger is not the curry for meal all the time
Wine is not the friend for loneliness all the time

Syrup Sponge

Pour a pint of cream
Upon my spongy bulge!

Scoop me with a
Hefty spoon;

Taste my essence -
Do you swoon?

Feed your self-esteem; indulge
In me until you burst -

Death by syrup sponge - you're cursed!

And as the count in inches gain
Upon your weary waist, the strain
Will tell, but you'll not care -
Steeped in sponge, you're unaware!

On a Small Touch of Hunger

A small touch of hunger sometimes is good
True hunger in truth never being good
While flase hunger is something for which to watch
Food being the great drug of our time
With which we anesthetize much more than hunger
Beware food as a drug which masks the deeper pain.

Hard To Swallow

We eat to live
We eat to grow
We eat to endulge ourselves,
In the greatness of food

We eat to provide comfort
We eat to be accepted
We eat as it is part,
Of our lives

Food comes in all different forms,
Shapes and sizes
It can be a bean as small as a nail
Or a christmas turkey the size of a horse

Food is a necessity
Food is a way of life
Food is enjoyed
Food is loved
But for some,
Food is despised

Eating brings pain
Eating brings weight
Eating brings illness
Eating brings hate

Eating means endless pain
A pain that wont stop,
Until the food inside,
Is forced out

Eating means weight gain and hurt
So,
It's best not to eat at all
The aching pain of hunger drifts away,
With several ibuprofein.

The battle with food is a constant struggle
To overcome the eating disorder
To take one bite,
And Swallow!

My Quest

My tears for hunger continues.
My quest for water is running short.
The joy of shelter I could only dream of,
With no shirt on my back, not even a sole of a shore on my feet.
The great quest continues.
Don't no the taste of food because I hardly have any..
Never had a recreation
Nor any form of entertainment.
All I could think of whats my next meal.
Searching the vast desert for food is brutal, days of walking with no success,
Am in pain need food
My tiny stomach hurts, my legs weak, my hands dead, I can't breathe.
My life less body is damaged.dead from hunger.....

Salad is Incompatible with Life

Yes, my waist is fifty inches -
Big for me because I'm short.
And yes, I like my cheddar cheese
When partnered with a vintage port.

Okay, okay, that double cream
Is always served with pud,
And cake and biscuits with my tea
Are just no bloody good

For my poor hardened arteries,
But see my point of view,
Please dear wifey if you please,
A Salad makes me spew!

I'd rather eat a bowl of air
Than crunch away on greens;
Drink water from the toilet bowl
Or nibble on my jeans!

But salad! Are you there?
You know it makes me snappy -
So let me fill my face with grub,
Stay fat, and die young happy!

Fish ‘n Chips - Food of Life

Oh how I crave for fish ‘n chips:
Our fine cuisine of world renown.
I dined on such a subtle dish
When QEII received her crown.

Oh how I need some fish ‘n chips;
I'll queue in pouring rain or snow!
What better way to warm my hands,
As soggy chips make fingers glow.

We Brits are famed for culinary finesse,
Like steak ‘n kidney pud no less;
Wondrous tripe; cottage pie;
Bangers and egg in lard to fry!

But fish ‘n chips - the crowning glory -
A dish to trounce the great kebab!
You think I care for chicken masala?
It's cod and chips that grow my flab.

Oh how I yearn for fish ‘n chips,
All poshly wrapped in the Daily Star,
Then caked and drowned in salt ‘n vinegar -
And stinking out my brand new car!

No Fixed Abode

Around the streets, some people pace;
Others sit in doorways and stare into space.
With nothing to do and nowhere to go,
Days seem to drag and time goes slow.

Their daily lives hold little direction;
They're prone to illness and infection.
Their dowdy clothes are full of dust and dirt;
Their eyes are full of hunger and deep down hurt.

Aromas from restaurants waft through the air,
Making pangs of hunger much harder to bear.
Their bellies grumble due to a lack of food;
Remembering better times, they sit and brood.

Some want money for food, drink or drugs;
Some just want love, and they just want a hug.
Amidst the city's seemingly never-ending din,
Many scavenge for their food in rubbish bins.

To ask for money, some seize their chance:
They get ignored or receive a cutting glance.
Like you and I, these people have feelings,
But the sight of them leaves some people reeling.

The lucky few head to a hostel for the night;
Others bed-down in doorways: a sorry old sight.
Those left on the streets do their best to sleep,
But klaxons wail loudly and car horns beep.

Each day and night, they struggle to survive;
In present circumstances, they cannot thrive.
Once upon a time, these people had pride,
But, from the world, they now want to hide.

Appetite

It is appetizing, the meal is appetizing,
I consumed a mighty warrior of steel.
My concession was plain, just give me food
So I give you a meal, food for two now.
The concert repeats, I laugh and cry forever,
But still I smile and giggle with dizziness.
The groups of people look like apes with food,
The two of us are fed, what of the rest of us?
My appetite is satisfied, but your meal surrounds
And loves me, like two of us in the middle of feeding.

I hunger for something no food gives

I HUNGER FOR SOMETHING NO FOOD GIVES

I hunger for something no food gives
Can I work my way into being loved?
Inside where my mother taught me
Most to be in joy with the world
I continue to hum.

In old age my father’s dreams and fears trouble me still,
But I go on and on
Writing the words- and waiting for them to be read.

How far away is all the distant glory I dreamed
And how small I am beside all the goodness of the years
God has given me.

Mute Hunger

An ache perforates veins deep
Blood cold as moods of night
tears fall on food I eat
tears fall on food withered
Filled platters, piled up trash bins
Plastic flash cards' redeemed poise
Classy high end festive foyers
Dim lit reckless long end revelry
Minds relaxed on refined comforts
jaded dried leaves spread apart
life shriveled, cry for food
hear my heart from unknown souls
bracing measures count on scales
reversed ravage Friday flings
cried my mind on third world famine
poor souls' handcuffed hunger
Mute, deaf, dumb hunger
Strange unknown silent anguish....
Genuine thud on unarmed door steps
Benign heart you listen please....
Don’t, don’t waste fuel of life

Dear reader friends,

All over the world humans throw food to trash boxes, listen the cries of hunger, please don’t waste food, it is precious... Millions are dying in the third world of hunger.

A fresh estimate from the ministry of food processing says a whopping Rs 58,000 crore (Rs 580 billion) worth of agriculture food items get wasted in India every year resulting artificial demand, price hike and food shortage. People below poverty line are the sufferers.
Private consulting firm Rabo India Finance has prepared the food wastage report and presented it to the ministry.Quoting from the report, Minister of State for Food Processing told the Parliament that the fact that such a huge quantity of food items goes as waste in the country is an eye-opener.

I Do Not Own The World

Yes,
I know there is war
I know there are many people
dying in hunger
I know there is unequality
but I do not own the world!

I do not have the power
to stop the war
I do not have all the money
to buy food for the hungry
I do not have the power to pass the law
that can give equal rights to all humanity
I do not own the world!

If I own the world
I will make it the world of no war.

If I own the world
I will make it the world of no hunger.

If I own the world
I will make it the world of no unequality.

But I do not own the world...
I alone....do not own the world.

Dogged Days

A country-dog has chanced to find
A plantain-leaf with left-o’er food;
Oh, what a stroke of luck this day!
It rolls over the ground with joy
And rips the packet open fast.

Some bits of chicken-bones with flesh
Amidst some biriyani rice –
That smells quite good but could be stale,
Yet tempting to the dog’s taste-buds!

The food lies scattered on the ground
With mud and pebbles, paper too;
A hungry dog is blind to these,
And eats the food in hurried way.

God only knows what things have slipped
Past throat, along with food it took;
Its hunger-pangs abated now,
The dog basks in the sun and sleeps!

But death could come soon anytime;
Just lucky, ’tis alive today!

Think of the human beings too,
Who lead a dogged-life these days –
Without a proper meal a day
Or clothes to wear or place to rest!

The God of love who made us all
Is watching how we treat brethren;
We talk so big but do little
To help the most unfortunate souls.

No land can call itself blessed;
No people can call themselves great,
While famished, ravished souls exist,
And people live in slums like dogs!

Prosperity and poverty

Hunger for food has been met;
Hunger for love has set in.

Hunger for power has been met;
Hunger for ethics has set in.

Hunger for lust has been met;
Hunger for faith has set in.

Thirst for knowledge has been met;
Thirst for innocence has set in.

Thirst for contacts has been met;
Thirst for concerns has set in.

Thirst for comfort has been met;
Thirst for compassion has set in.

Love, ethics, faith lost,
Innocence, concerns and compassion missing,

Despite food, power and lust,
Despite knowledge, comfort and compassion,

The soul will die a slow death
Long before the body succumbs.

The world will not die of poverty
But it will sure die of prosperity.

Cooking and taste

eating the same tasteless dinner at the only diner
the umpteenth time, a thought came to my mind
am i a guinea pig or one of its kind
or was there a conspiracy behind

has my taste buds gone out of date
why is all so tasteless, that is the food i ate

i dared to ask the manager why the taste is so bad
bang came a caustic reply, this is by the best cook he ever had
(insinuating a problem not with his cook but with my taste)

well then it has to be my taste buds i thought
directing all my efforts to the food i had bought

then came storming, the savior, inside the hall
in his hand was the same food for which i have taken the fall
indignanlty he shouted at the manager
this food is so bad that even his dog had refused to had

hell i thought even the dog has a better taste
why, why am i such a waste
the dog in me forced me to start cooking that very day
the dog in me does sometimes refuses to eat what i cook
the human in me requests him to hav another look

for, when people are struggling for one square meal a day
how can i keep the food i cooked at bay,
hence i eat, taste or no taste, everything i cook, every day.
