The Underground Sonata
The subway moves underground
In the city that I live
every single day
Because the subway carries all the passengers
To different parts of the city that I live

The Big City Type
I woke up in a big city apartment
Rode to a big city job
On a big city subway
With hip, big city people
Worked at a big city job
In a big city skyscraper
Stood in a big city line
For lunch, heard big city jazz
On a big city radio station
It was like a big city scene
In a big budget movie
When I realized I had become
The big city type
I always wanted to be
Yet I was still me

Hi-Fi
Slipping through the city sliding train to train
Sulking on the subway music in our brain
She and me together in the city sounds
Me and mona lisa on the underground
Hi-fi in the white city yeah yeah
Hi-fi in the white city yeah yeah
Slipping through the city sliding brain to brain
Sulking on the subway listening to the train
She and me together speed through space and time
Grafitti in our eyes and music in our mind

Capital City
Nerve and nerve
This coastline swerves
To a city that they live on
I walk on by
Animals cry
To a city that they live on
To a city that they walk on
To a city that they live on
Pulse feel pulse
This train is late
I hesitate
To a city that they live on
Dance the dance of violence
To a city that they live on
To a city that they crawl on
To a city that they live on
Pulse feel pulse
City that they live on
Feel
To a city that they crawl on
To a city live on
Feel
City that they crawl on

Nyc on my mind
I woke up in North Carolina
Yet New York was on my mind
Thinking of leaving it all behind
I could imagine the subway hustle
Also the mad taxi drivers too
The beat of the city and see the swift feets in the city.
Nyc was on my mind and the electricity,
from the city makes me feel
just fine.

About in The City
about in the city, get caught up in the lights
walk with the people, anticipate the endless rhythm that is the night
awake each day to the race once again, the race of life,
run towards your dreams, run onto the subway,
because this city’s moving fast, racing forward in a hurry
talk fast and run with fury so you can be more than just a blur to this city

Mad Mariner
Mad Mariner rose in the city bus
That slowly on the road
In the crowded of city street
Heated the sleepy passengers
And was tired
Hook, hook, his fingers
Straight to the roof bus
Ran and ran again
He screams
On the city bus
How this could be happen
In the city bus
Apart From
Frighten passengers

Cities
(david byrne)think of london - small city
Dark - dark in the daytime
People sleep - sleep in the daytime
If they want to - if they want to
Im checkin em out
Im checkin em out
Ive got it figured out
Ive got it figured out
Theres some good points - some bad points
But it all works out - Im just a little freaked out
Find your city -
Find yourself a city to live in
I will find a city -
Find yourself a city to live in
A lot of bridges in birmingham
A lot of ghosts - and a lot of houses
Look over there - dry ice factory
Good place to get some thinking done
Im checkin em out
Im checkin em out
Ive got it figured out
Im the one who got it figured out
Theres some good points - some bad points
Find your city -
Find yourself a city to live in
I will find a city -
Find yourself a city to live in
Did I forget to mention -
Forget to mention memphish
Home of elvis and the ancient greeks
Do I smell - I smell home cooking
Its only the river - its only the river
Im checkin em out
Im checkin em out
Ive got it figured out
Ive got it figured out
Theres some good points - some bad points
Are those things real? denied!
Find your city -
Find yourself a city to live in
I will find a city -
Find yourself a city to live in
I will find a city -
Find yourself a city to live in
I will find a city
Find yourself a city to live in

Tale of Three Cities
New York blasted London blasted
Singapore -
Ripped off each other's metaphoric balls,
Crumbling walls.
Priapic city monoliths -
Blue-sky scraping bastards -
Shout about their height (but really length) .
V8 arseholes didn't care -
Pumping shit into the air,
So long as they were always there to
Fart aloud a smoggy cloud,
Laughing at the weak asthmatic,
Humoured that it seems traumatic.
Watch the greedy cities oozing
Chair-bound fat committees, though they
Look a bunch of titties as they
Waffle on about the pound.
Ever thought to look around and see
That they were dead?

A Subway Called You
Here we are
We drift like gas
On someone elses bed
I pay high you know
Here we are
How old are you
Its just a job to me
Here the ladies always ring twice
Thought youd slip away tonight with me
In a subway I called you
Hello you no more this talk of
my boys will be yours
No more i
This conversation drains
My patience dry.
Here the business always rings twice
No relaxing for the boys tonight
In a subway I called you
Here the tension always slows twice
Shed one tear its just routine for now
In a subway I called you

One Day Traveler
Whenever I've traveled to a crowded city
I always think, 'Oh what a pity
to live in a city.'
For the skyscrapers there
so high in the air
have hidden the blue of the sky
except for the birds that fly.
The cold gray stone adorned with lights
never seem warm until the nights.
Their blinking neons can't compare
with the twinkling stars up in the air.
And again I think,
'Oh what a pity to live in the city.'
The hustle, the bustle and constant noise
have become for some the city's joys.
The screeching brakes, the honking sounds
is an abrupt assault to my head that pounds.
And again I think,
'Oh what a pity to live in a city.'
A one day visit and I'm ready to leave
and I know that I could never conceive
of being at home, never to roam
where the grass grows under my feet,
except for a country street
and again I think,
'Oh what a pity to live in a city.'

Lucy In The Subway
Lucy sells her flowers for a quarter apiece
She wound up on the streets
She could not pay her lease
She used to want to save the world
But nothing to her matters now
She lays bout the subway station
Clad in dirty tatters now
Lucys in the subway with daffodils
She lost all her diamonds
And she sold all her pills
Shes been around the block
But shes had too many thrills
Lucys in the subway with daffodils
Lucy holds a dixie cup
Of sixty cents in change
And if she looks you in the eye
You see that shes deranged
She flew too near the sun
And fried her fragile wings
But to her faithful whisky bottle she clings
Lucys in the subway with daffodils
She lost all her diamonds
And she sold all her pills
Shes been around the block
But shes had too many thrills
Lucys in the subway with daffodils

To Leave This City
This is the city to walk around in the rain
Staring at the barges in the harbor
And to hum songs through the night.
The city has countless streets
Bustling with people running around...
The waitress who brings me my tea every evening
And whom I like a lot although she's a White Russian
Is in this city.
The old pianist who turns around
To look at me
When he sneaks in pieces by Schumann and Brahms
While playing waltzes and foxtrot
Is also in this city.
The ferry boats that caryy passengers
To the village where I was born are in this city.
So are my memories,
All those I love,
And the graves of my loved ones.
This is the city where I have a job,
Where I earn my bread money.
And yet, in spite of all this,
This is the same city I'm leaving
Because of a woman
In another city.

Ride Into The Sun
(reed)
Looking for another place
Somewhere else to be
Looking for another chance
To ride into the sun
Ride into the sun
Ride into the sun
Ride into the sun
Ride into the sun
Where everything seems so pretty
When youre lonely and tired of the city
Remember its a flower made out of clay
To the city
Where everything seems so ugly
When your sitting at home in self pitty
Remember youre just one more person
Whos living there
Its hard to live in the city
Its hard to live in the city
Its hard to live in the city
...

Ride Into The Sun
Looking for another chance

Looking for another place

Where -
- everything seems so pretty
But if youre tired and youre sick of the city
Remember that its just a flower
Made out of clay
Oh-oh-oh, the city -
- where everything seems so dirty
But if youre tired and youre filled with self-pity
Remember that youre just one more
Person whos there
Its hard to live in the city
Its hard to live in the city, oh, oh-oh
Its hard to live in the city, oh, wow-wow
Its hard to live in the city

I Live In A City As Great
I LIVE IN A CITY/ AS GREAT
I live in a city
As great as holy as conflicted
As history itself
Many years have I lived here
And little have I written about it-
Much greater than me
Have written here Holy Books for mankind here-
Generations of Jews
Prayed to live here-
I have been blessed
The city will always be too great for me
But I hope to live here to the end of my life.

Hurricane Sandy Nov 5th,2012
HURRICANE SANDY Nov 5th,2012
By
James Bredin
The northeast coast just got hit by hurricane Sandy at night,
And New York City just got one hell of an awful fright,
Houses, subways and taxis flooded and in distress,
Hospitals vacated without power and all on TV and in the press.
Many houses burned to the ground in New Jersey and power gone,
Many relatives drowned and we can't tell what's going on,
An extremely sad affair with the subway closed down,
And gas stations out of gas and can't get up or downtown.
And all this in the middle of a presidential election,
In an area that truly needs lots of protection,
I think we need to build some dykes in case it happens again,
And the subway has to have a proper working drain.

Mumbai
They call it a city that never sleeps,
Dreams at large; everything in heaps
Buzzing all the time, different people different cons,
It got its roses and it got its thorns.
City of murmuring traffic and twinkling cars
The multi-millionaires, the movie stars.
We’ve got it all;
The vada-pav and the dance bars,
Crowded local trains, almost on time,
Spirit of its passengers always sublime
City where honesty is rewarded,
But bravery is crime.
Success and failure are in twilight,
City where changes happen overnight
You might be swept if caught off sight,
Got lucky, then you be on a flight
Multi-lingual, multi-religious,
City of unusual weather,
I wouldn’t be wrong; if I say,
It’s a city where country comes together,
Every city has its ups and downs and she is no different.
She gives me an identity and makes me proud.
City where I was born and city where I want to die,
My city! My Mumbai

My City
City, you are my City.
You are where i come from,
you gave me my family,
you gave me my life.
Manchester, you are my Manchester.
You are the city I love,
you are the city I live for,
you are my house and home.
City, you are my City.
You are my work,
you are my life,
you are my everything.

Nowhere Looking Eyes
All you city people
moving listlessly
restlessly rushingly.
I love you. Yet I cannot
stay or live in subterranean
chambers. Entombed
within towering edifices
grandly stylishly proud
with splendent future hope.
All born
within same city
whose crumbling masonry
confronts me like ruins
of broken hope. On train
your busy nowhere looking
eyes, sightless do not see.
They do not hold my eyes.
Trains go on and so must I.
I love motion movement
of busy bustling subway.
Riding layered escalators
within maze labyrinth
of possible platforms.
Watching patchwork people
some with choked soulful
eyes, others vital very much alive.
A host of stories pass on by.
Laughing longing moving
in need in pain in greed.
Thoughts flicker across faces
the presence pale felt
shown of passing soul.
Merging intersecting these
conflicting person’s races.
Immiscible incapable
of becoming homogeneous.
Oil and water will not mix.
Only in tourist fresh
stolen week in London
wonder seen retained
of visit was contained.
But stories go on
like ever changing lines;
written in lyric song.
Singers some remembered
may come or go
but music continues;
emerging styles
some mixes are better so.
I love the subway trains
so swift fast clean
knowing; where they are going.
Ordered stations constant,
with ease, flash on by.
All you city people,
moving listlessly
restlessly rushingly.
Will you make a place,
here for me? Or watch
or watch me fall?
Like a spent building.
Now unwanted space cleared
for planned future need.
