The Mushera Fog

It steals down the mountain the Mushera fog
Across the mountain road and cloaks Togher Bog
On damp and wet days in Winter and the latter Fall
The traffic goes up and down road at a crawl
From the high road a steep dropp down the mountain side
And to drive fast there in the fog is a wish for suicide
But what a beautiful drive on a pleasant Spring day
When the hawthorns are in their white flowers of the May
A beautiful view of the countryside for miles around
As you drive up and down the high road on the higher ground
But from mid Fall to early Spring on damp weather of low cloud
The high Mushera road is cloaked in a gray shroud
As the low clouds of rain down the mountain side blow
For to cloak Togher Bog and the valley below.

Tis Cold In Aubane

From the news by Mushera from here far away
'Tis cold in Aubane very cold there today
Low cloud over the high fields in fog cold and gray
And cattle in farm-sheds are bellowing for silage or hay
On the high and snow covered narrow road from Rylane to Millstreet Town
Few trucks, cars or buses do pass up and down
When the cold winds of January from Mushera do blow
And the high fields by the mountain are covered in snow
On the farmers of Aubane January weather is hard
When the migrant redwing thrushes are in the farmyard
And by backdoor sparrows, robins and blackbirds pecking crumbs of bread
With many weeks of severe weather ahead
And each breath you exhale it is gray in the wintery chill
In January in Aubane by Mushera Hill.

There's Snow In Olinda

The high road closed to traffic you can't drive that way
And in the high mountain village kids with snowballs play
And it snowed in Olinda four inches today
In the coldest part of Sherbrooke some venture to say.

Down through the high country the Winter winds blow
And though cold in Olinda it seldom does snow
Four inches a good fall though elders recall
That they can remember a much bigger fall.

It's been snowing in Olinda on the higher ground
Four inches this morning 'the word's got around'
The last kick of Winter and Spring is so near
But such is expected at this time of year.

There's snow in Olinda a wonderful sight
And the golf course and park is a blanket of white
And kids in the village are playing in the snow
And through the high country the Winter winds blow.

A Heavy Fog

The fog silently crawls across the sky and on the ground
And cloaks the countryside for miles around
And motorists drive with their headlights on though the clock has struck mid-day
And visibility down to twenty metres and everywhere looking gray.

A chilly day in Winter on the last week of July
The silent fog crawls on the ground and creeps across the sky
And motorists and truckies on the road to and from the town are driving rather slow
They even do drive faster in the frost and in the snow.

It cloaks the roadside paddocks and the houses of the town
And cars and trucks with headlights on the main street crawl up and down
On days in Winter now and then you do get days like these
Quite chilly days with heavy fog with scarce a puff of breeze.

The fog it creeps across the sky and covers everywhere
And the day is damp and gloomy and a chill is in the air
And children laughing at their play in the school yard nearby
Despite the heavy Winter fog their lunch hour they enjoy.

When The Gray Fog Covers The Great Gums

When the gray fog covers the great gums and the pied currawongs they do call
You know heavy rain is approaching to Kalorama in late Fall
Across the high woodlands of Yarra Ranges the cool winds of early May blow
The mountain ash have seen many Seasons and with each Season taller they grow
The people who live near the high woods feel proud of their place of tall trees
The laughter of the kookaburras the mountain ash soughing in the breeze
When the gray fog covers the great gums you know that the Winter is near
The mountain air is a bit chilly in the Yarra Ranges in the Fall of the year,
The white cockatoos they are squawking their grating calls not a pleasant sound
Though quite pretty birds for to look at in the high woods their numbers abound
The king parrots and crimson rosellas quite beautiful birds to behold
In tree cavities they are born and 'tis said they live to be old
And the pied currawongs the big dark birds in the fog hidden woodland do call
And the rain clouds beginning to drizzle in Kalorama in the late Fall.

The Mountain Road

COMING down the mountain road
Light of heart and all alone,
I caught from every rill that flowed
A rapture of its own.

Heart and mind sang on together,
Rhymes began to meet and run
In the windy mountain weather
And the winter sun.

Clad in freshest light and sweet
Far and far the city lay
With her suburbs at her feet
Round the laughing bay.

Like an eagle lifted high
Half the radiant world I scanned,
Till the deep unclouded sky
Circled sea and land.

No more was thought a weary load,
Older comforts stirred within,
Coming down the mountain road
The earth and I were kin.

Ain't No Mountain High Enough

Listen, baby
Ain't no mountain high
Ain't no vally low
Ain't no river wide enough, baby
If you need me, call me
No matter where you are
No matter how far
Just call my name
I'll be there in a hurry
You don't have to worry
'Cause baby,
There ain't no mountain high enough
Ain't no valley low enough
Ain't no river wide enough
To keep me from getting to you
Remember the day
I set you free
I told you
You could always count on me
From that day on I made a vow
I'll be there when you want me
Some way,some how
'Cause baby,
There ain't no mountain high enough
Ain't no valley low enough
Ain't no river wide enough
To keep me from getting to you
No wind, no rain
My love is alive
Way down in my heart
Although we are miles apart
If you ever need a helping hand
I'll be there on the double
As fast as I can
Don't you know that
There ain't no mountain high enough
Ain't no valley low enough
Ain't no river wide enough
To keep me from getting to you
Don't you know that
There ain't no mountain high enough
Ain't no valley low enough
Ain't no river wide enough

Grey Wet Fog Of Emptiness

like a gray fog of wet emptiness
covering all realms of my vision
covering all realms of my thought
it is raining so hard, I can’t even see the road
the road - where I drive

windshield wipers sway
left to right
right to left
but they are too old - too slow
to ever give me clear vision
vision - of the pavement which lies ahead

the temperature is a million degrees outside
the windows fog from the pounding 100% humidity
no defroster, none that works anyway
I wipe the glass with my sleeve

in a flesh flash
these people wildly run across the road in front of me
but the breaks on this ancient sports car are old
they wouldn’t have stopped me
even if I slammed the pedal to the floor

near miss

their death in my hands
my death in theirs

pouring - forced water - forms passageways
rivers - to my either side

there is no way I can stop
no way to quit and wait this one out
if I stop - I’m dead
washed away/cleansed from the earth
at the hands of this nonstop deluge of liquid passion
no choice but to move on
through this rainy mountain village
this rainy mountain road

Southeast Asian rain
and you thought the rain covered roads in L.A. were bad

Gypsy Road

I used to be now Im not what you see, lord I try
And now it seems all those dreams have come true, but theyre passing me by
Some fast talkin mama for a dollar put a smile on my face
Im drivin all night
I end up in the same old place
My gypsy road cant take me home
I drive all night just to see the light
My gypsy road cant take me home
I keep on pushin cause it feels alright
And whos to care if I grow my hair to the sky
Ill take a wish and a prayer cross my fingers cause I always get by
Some fast talkin jerk for a dollar wiped the smile off my face
Im drivin all night
Just to keep the rat in the race
My gypsy road cant take me home
I drive all night just to see the light
My gypsy road cant take me home
I keep on pushin cause it feels alright
Sometimes I feel so old
Got my lights burnin bright
But Im lookin pretty sold
Sometimes I feel so cold
So cold
Lets go
Got to get on home
My gypsy road cant take me home
My gypsy road cant take me home, t-t-take me
My gypsy road cant take me home
I drive all night just to see the light
My gypsy road cant take me home
I keep on pushin cause it feels alright
My gypsy road cant take me home
I drive all night just to see the light
My gypsy road cant take me home
I keep on p-p-pushin
My gypsy road
My gypsy road
My gypsy road
My gypsy road
My gypsy road

You Sit On The Car And Call Yourself, Stupid

you sit inside the car
as i drive on this busy road
in the city, on some dangerous
intersections, and you hold your hair
with your left hand
leaning on the mirror
seeing the flow of people
on the pedestrian lane
and you quip,

why do you love a stupid
woman like me?

i focus myself on the road
and it begins to rain
and people are running
everywhere seeking
for shelter

you ask,
do you really love me?
i am sorry
putting you on this mess.
i am really sorry,

tears begin to roll
from your eyes

the rain goes heavily on
the glass and i cannot clearly
see the road

it is dark and i turn on the
front lights and drive
the car slowly on the side
of the road. I stop
for a while,

it is hazy, i said.

and i just love to kiss you.

Night-time, ten-to-four A.M.

I will be on the road, a bad road tagged
Called 'Your Insights Terrestrial Roadway'
at a speed of inoculated fate dragged
into my altered oddities of soul betrayal.

above signs speed limits, effort of strive
at what distance will tangent lines drive?
I could only afford of a celestial ticket
A cyclic chord music, sacrificial trinket.

Up a strenuous, snake-like slippery mountain path
hollowed out cavern mines, engines powered wrath
My gloved hands tightly clenched upon leather steer
fast shift of gears, a tango with death commandeer.

Of heights and depths, impertinent forsaken place
of eerie outcasts, only obscene destinies will grace
all efforts. Upon this path, an intruder I shall be
outsmarted by nature's rejection of an even destiny.

Indomitable motor's turbocharged power propulsion
all hidden dreams weave on this Northern traction
wet surface, no-speed to deny, titanic of torque
winner of never, of skies above a champagne's cork.

Night-hour of else on a high mountain strenuous road
if I waited for an ambulance, would be an act odd
a little droplet of crimson acquainted with my uniform
Since 10 to 4 am, on road side, killed in the storm.

The Coast-Road

A horseman high alone as an eagle on the spur of the mountain
over Mirmas Canyon draws rein, looks down
At the bridge-builders, men, trucks, the power-shovels, the teeming
end of the new coast-road at the mountain's base.
He sees the loops of the road go northward, headland beyond
headland, into gray mist over Eraser's Point,
He shakes his fist and makes the gesture of wringing a chicken's
neck, scowls and rides higher.

I too
Believe that the life of men who ride horses, herders of cattle on
the mountain pasture, plowers of remote
Rock-narrowed farms in poverty and freedom, is a good life. At
the far end of those loops of road
Is what will come and destroy it, a rich and vulgar and bewildered
civilization dying at the core,
A world that is feverishly preparing new wars, peculiarly vicious
ones, and heavier tyrannies, a strangely
Missionary world, road-builder, wind-rider, educator, printer and
picture-maker and broadcaster,
So eager, like an old drunken whore, pathetically eager to impose
the seduction of her fled charms
On all that through ignorance or isolation might have escaped
them. I hope the weathered horseman up yonder
Will die before he knows what this eager world will do to his
children. More tough-minded men
Can repulse an old whore, or cynically accept her drunken kindnesses
for what they are worth,
But the innocent and credulous are soon corrupted.

Where is our
consolation? Beautiful beyond belief
The heights glimmer in the sliding cloud, the great bronze gorge-cut
sides of the mountain tower up invincibly,
Not the least hurt by this ribbon of road carved on their sea-foot.

Over The Land Is April

OVER the land is April,
Over my heart a rose;
Over the high, brown mountain
The sound of singing goes.
Say, love, do you hear me,
Hear my sonnets ring?
Over the high, brown mountain,
Love, do you hear me sing?

By highway, love, and byway
The snows succeed the rose.
Over the high, brown mountain
The wind of winter blows.
Say, love, do you hear me,
Hear my sonnets ring?
Over the high, brown mountain
I sound the song of spring,
I throw the flowers of spring.
Do you hear the song of spring?
Hear you the songs of spring?

Climb That Mountain High

(don schlitz/reba mcentire)
Red sun a-rising, over the hill
Ive had enough of this desert to last from now until
Im tired of living day-to-day and hand-to-mouth
This could be the day I finally find my way out
Chorus:
Im gonna climb that mountain high
Im gonna see whats on the other side
Im gonna kiss this town good-bye
Im gonna climb that mountain
How I arrived here, heaven only knows
Seems more like the kind of place the devil wouldve chose
To spend my life here, is more than I can do
I know somewhere down the road my dream will come true
Repeat chorus
If I stay here forever
What will I have to show
But if I make it over
Then everyone will know
Im gonna climb that mountain high
Repeat chorus

Joppa Road

How would you feel, if I took you away
To a place I know, a place where we could stay
Called joppa road, a pretty place I know
Where we can go, called joppa road
The things I feel on joppa road
Can make me stay, and make me go
This old road where I long to go
Called joppa road, where we can go
Put your best dress on, theres a place I know
Where we can go, called joppa road
Its a little ways where the sun shines down
Where we drive real slow, on joppa road
Joppa road, a pretty place I know
Where we can go, called joppa road
Hey, yo bro, thats a dude I know
Works on joppa road, at the sunoco
If we drive by slow, with the top down low
Well heel and toe on joppa road

Its a little ways where the sun shines down
Where we drive real slow on joppa road

Baby, you look great today

King Of The Mountain

Walking through the high dry grass, pushing my way through slow
Yellow belly black snake, sleeping on a red rock
Waiting for the stranger to go
Sugar train stops at the crossing, cane cockies cursing below
Bad storm coming, better run to the top of the mountain
Mountain in the shadow of light, rain in the valley below
Well you can say youre peter, say youre paul
Dont put me up on your bedroom wall, call me the king of the mountain
Blacksmith fires up the bellows, cane cutters burning the load
Workers of the world, run to the top of the mountain
Mountain in the...
I cant take my hands from my face, there are some things we cant replace
Mountain in the...
Over liquid tarmac wastelands of cactus and heat
Down cobblestone alleyways of washing day sheets
Up ghost prairie mountains of sunset and space
Down the road at a familiar place, across the wilderness
Out further than the bush I will follow you

John Buckley

John Buckley lived in Mushera upon the higher ground
A quiet and decent person his nickname 'John The Pound'
For the Aubane Gaelic Football Club he played Gaelic Football
Back in the nineteen sixties as I can well recall.

He never harmed anyone lived in the honest way
And respect to his memory his friends and family pay
Perhaps in his early seventies and it does seem sad to say
That with the dead of Millstreet his remains forever lay.

In the famous Aubane colours some great games he did play
Till the years too crept up on him and time does tick away
A strong and sturdy fellow when he was in his prime
But we all do become victims of ageless father time.

He will never be seen on the high Mushera road by Mushera Hill again
But fond memories of the man he was in the minds of those who knew him will remain
One can only hope that from life his was not a painful release
He was a decent person and may he rest in peace.

I'm Gonna Take That Mountain

I'm gonna take that moutain
I was born a stubborn soul
Ain't afraid of the great unknown
Or a windin' road that's all uphill
This is just a stumblin' block
Intimidatin' wall of rock
If you think this broken heart will break my will
I'm gonna take that mountain
Ain't nothin' gonna slow me down
And there ain't no way around it
Gonna leave it level with the ground
Ain't just gonna cross it, climb it, fight it
I'm gonna take that mountain
It's overwhelmin' lookin' up
And knowin' it's the challenge of me
Against this heartache to survive
I may slip and I may fall
But even if I have to crawl
I'll break through to the healin' side
I'm gonna take that mountain
Ain't nothin' gonna slow me down
And there ain't no way around it
Gonna leave it level with the ground
Ain't just gonna cross it, climb it, fight it
I'm gonna take that mountain
Ain't just gonna cross it, climb it, fight it
Yeah, I'm gonna take that mountain
