Waltzing Matilda

(sung by tico torres)
Wasted and wounded, it aint what the mood did,
Ive got what I prayed for now
Ill see you tomorrow, hey frank, can I borrow a couple of bucks from you
To go waltzing mathilda, waltzing mathilda,
Youll go waltzing mathilda with me
Im an innocent victim of a blinded alley
And Im tired of all these soldiers here
No one speaks english, and everythings broken, and my stacys are
Soaking wet to go waltzing mathilda, waltzing mathilda,
Youll go waltzing mathilda with me
Now I lost my saint christopher now that Ive kissed her
And the one-armed bandit knows
That the maverick chinaman with his cold-blooded style
And the girls stand by the strip-tease shows, go
Waltzing mathilda, waltzing mathilda,
Youll go waltzing mathilda with me
Now I dont want your sympathy, the fugitive says
That the streets aint for dreaming now
Manslaughter dragnets and the ghosts that sell memories,
Want a piece of the action anyhow
Go waltzing mathilda, waltzing mathilda,
Youll go waltzing mathilda with me
Its a battered old suitcase in a hotel someplace,
And a wound that will never heal
No prima donnas, the perfume is on
Its an old shirt thats stained with blood and whiskey
And goodnight to the street sweepers, the night watchmen, the flame
Keepers
Goodnight mathilda, too
And goodnight mathilda, too

To go waltzing Matilda, waltzing Matilda
You'll go a waltzing Malitda with me
Now the dogs they are barking
and the taxi cab's parking
A lot they can do for me
I begged you to stab me
You tore my shirt open
And I'm down on my knees tonight
Old bushmills I staggered
You buried the dagger
Your silhouette window light
To go waltzing Matilda, waltzing Matilda
You'll go a waltzing Matilda with me
Now I've lost my St. Christopher
Now that I kissed her
And the one-arm bandit knows

Waltzing Matilda

Words and music: m. cowan
Roy sang this song whilst on an australian tour
It was taped by a fan and circulated.....
Once a jolly swagman, campd by a billabong,
Under the shade of a coolibah tree,
And he sang as he watchd and waited till his billy boiled,
Youll come a waltzing matilda with me.
Waltzing matilda, waltzing matilda,
Youll come a waltzing matilda with me,
And he sang as he sat and waited till his billy boiled,
Youll come a waltzing matilda with me.
Down came a jumbuck to drink at that billabong,
Up jumped the swagman and grabbed him with glee,
And he sang as he shaoved that jumbuck in his tucker bag,
Youll come a waltzing matilda with me.
Waltzing matilda, waltzing matilda,
Youll come a waltzing matilda with me,
And he sang as he shaoved that jumbuck in his tucker bag,
Youll come a waltzing matilda with me.
Up rode the squatter mounted on his thoroughbred,
Down come the troopers, one, two, three,
Whose that jolly jumbuck youve got in your tucker bag?
Youll come a waltzing matilda with me.
Waltzing matilda, waltzing matilda,
Youll come a waltzing matilda with me,
Whose that jolly jumbuck youve got in your tucker bag?
Youll come a waltzing matilda with me.
Up jumped the swagman, sprang into the billabong,
Drowning himself by the coolibah tree,
And his ghost may be heard as you pass by that billabong,
Youll come a waltzing matilda with me.
Waltzing matilda, waltzing matilda,
Youll come a waltzing matilda with me,
And his ghost may be heard as you pass by that billabong,
Youll come a waltzing matilda with me.

Waltzing Matilda

OH! there once was a swagman camped in the Billabong,
Under the shade of a Coolabah tree;
And he sang as he looked at his old billy boiling,
“Who’ll come a-waltzing Matilda with me.”

Who’ll come a-waltzing Matilda, my darling,
Who’ll come a-waltzing Matilda with me?
Waltzing Matilda and leading a water-bag—
Who’ll come a-waltzing Matilda with me?
Down came a jumbuck to drink at the water-hole,
Up jumped the swagman and grabbed him in glee;
And he sang as he put him away in his tucker-bag,
“You’ll come a-waltzing Matilda with me!”

Down came the Squatter a-riding his thorough-bred;
Down came Policemen—one, two, and three.
”Whose is the jumbuck you’ve got in the tucker-bag?
You’ll come a-waltzing Matilda with me.”

But the swagman, he up and he jumped in the water-hole,
Drowning himself by the Coolabah tree;
And his ghost may be heard as it sings in the Billabong,
“Who’ll come a-waltzing Matilda with me?”

Waltz Away Dreaming

Duet with toby bourke
(Im here if you see me)
Shes got a song in her head and shell sing to me
Shes got a laugh that reminds me of why shes in love with me
Shed never let show she was lonely in case it had frightened me
She was carpet and stone, independent, alone
But this love always shone around me every time, oh
Waltz away dreaming till your day begins again
Free from the seasons and this state Im in
And oh, I cant hold it all under one love
It was so long ago when we danced in the streets
Now you fly like an eagle above while I waltz away anyway
And Im waltzing my days away
Searching for this woman I love
(Im here if you see me)
She had a history, joy and pain, and she chose to leave
She had a thousand and one photographs that you would not believe
Shell come to you in disguise, shes there in you childrens eyes
Still our mother, shes still your wife
So let her
Waltz away dreaming till your day begins again, oh yeah
Free from the reasons and this state Im in
And oh,(trust me) I cant hold it all
(she aint going anywhere) under one love
(trust me, she told me, when youre ready shell be there)
It was so long ago (no, dont let go of her)
When we kissed in the streets
Now you fly like an eagle above while I waltz away anyway
Then Im waltzing my days away
Searching for this woman I love
(and the moment you see me, I will live in your life)
(we will walk through my garden, I will see through you eyes)
Waltzing my days away (and the moment)
I was in despair (you see me) till she found me there (I will live)
Every grown man cries (in your life) with his mothers eyes
(we will walk) when youre ready too (through my garden)
Shell come back to you (I will see through your eyes)
Waltzing my days away (and the moment) shes waiting
(you see me, I will live in your life)
Waltzing my days (we will walk) shes waiting
(through my garden, I will) father (see through your eyes)
Shes waiting (and the moment you see me)

The Band Played Waltzing Matilda

When I was a young man I carried my pack
And I lived the free life of a rover
From the Murrays green basin to the dusty outback
I waltzed my Matilda all over
Then in nineteen fifteen my country said Son
It's time to stop rambling 'cause there's work to be
done
So they gave me a tin hat and they gave me a gun
And they sent me away to the war
And the band played Waltzing Matilda
As we sailed away from the quay
And amidst all the tears and the shouts and the
cheers
We sailed off to Gallipoli
How well I remember that terrible day
the blood stained the sand and the water
And how in that hell that they called Suvla Bay
We were butchered like lambs at the slaughter
Johnny Turk he was ready, he primed himself well
He us with bullets, he rained us with
shells
And in five minutes flat he'd blown us all to hell
Nearly blew us right back to Australia
But the band played Waltzing Matilda
As we stopped to bury our slain
And we buried ours and the Turks buried theirs
Then started all over again
Now those
In mad world of blood, death and fire
And for weeks I kept myself alive

Then a big Turkish shell knocked me arse over tit
And when I woke up in my hospital bed
And saw what it had done, I wished I was
dead
Never knew there were worse things than dying
no more I'll go waltzing Matilda
the green far and near
For to hump tent and pegs, a man needs two legs
No more waltzing Matilda for me
So they collected the cripples, the wounded
maimed
And they shipped us back home to Australia
, the blind insane
Those proud wounded heroes of Suvla
And as our ship pulled into Circular Quay
I looked at the place where legs used to be
And thank Christ there was nobody waiting for me
To grieve and to mourn and to pity
And the band played Waltzing Matilda
As they carried us down the gangway
But nobody cheered, they just stood and stared
turned all their faces away
And now every April I sit on my porch
And I watch the parade pass before me
my old comrades, how proudly they march
Reliving dreams of past glory

The forgotten heroes a forgotten war
And the young people ask , "What are they
marching for?"
And I ask myself the same question
And the band plays Waltzing Matilda
And the old men answer to the call
But year after year their numbers get fewer
Some day no one will march there at all
Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda
Who'll a-waltzing Matilda with me?

A Brave Woman

this woman really inspires me a lot
shes been through thick and thin
shes been through high and low
but she stood her ground and played
a role of a woman

when i close my eyes i could imagine
how much sufferings shes been through
i could imagine her running with a baby
on her back to catch a train with only R5.00
in her purse

hoping that she will find a job
this brave woman always
prayed unto God
to give her power to support her baby
a woman of ambitions never gives up
a woman who fears God always have faith
and never looses hope

for God is always with us nometter
the situation we are going through
this brave woman always hoped for
best even though she had nothing
she knew that her blessings were still
getting prepared
and will someday come for her

Dancing In The Dark

Dancind in the dark
Till the tune ends where dancing in the dark
And it soon ends we're waltzing in the wonder of why we're here
Time hurries by were here and gone
Looking for the light
Of a new love to brighten up the night
I have knew love and we can face the music together
Dancing in the dark
What though love is old
What though song is old
Though them we can be young
Hear this heart of mind
Make your's part of mind
Dear one tell me that we're one
We're waltzing in the wonder of why we're here
Time hurries by we're here and gone
We're looking for the light

A Poor Excuse, but our own

(Why don't you ever write any child poetry?
-A MOTHER.)

My right-hand neighbour hath a child,
A pretty child of five or six,
Not more than other children wild,
Nor fuller than the rest of tricks-
At five he rises, shine or rain,
And noisily plays 'fire' or 'train.'

Likewise a girl, _aetatis_ eight,
He hath. Each morning, as a rule,
Proudly my neighbour will relate
How bright Mathilda is at school.
My ardour, less than half of mild,
Bids me to comment, 'Wondrous child!'

All through the vernal afternoon
My other neighbour's children skate
A wild Bacchantic rigadoon
On rollers; nor does it abate
Till dark; and then his babies cry
What time I fain would versify.

Did I but set myself to sing
A children's song, I'd stand revealed
A bard that did the infant thing
As well as Riley or 'Gene Field.
I could write famous Children Stuff,
If they'd keep quiet long enough.

How Much I

how much i hate you
how much my heart hate you
you painted my face and gave me
the wrong image
you coloured my soul and made it
make you a soul mate
while you are a real dog

you took my love for granted and
forgot that i am an african woman
you forgot that 'wa thinti mfasi wa thinti imbokoto'
becouse you dont know what a reall woman needs
you dont know that a woman is a rock and
never gives up that easily

you forgot that an african woman has a solid heart
and nothing can never tear it apart
you played me like bafana ba kasi
playing amadice
you made me love you and forgot that
you dont know what love is

you failed to admire and cherish the
beauty of a young african woman
becouse your arms are too weak to
hold her
that is why you went for something
that looks just like her

how much i hate you
how much my heart hate you
even though you think that
you are a man you just need an african
woman to show you how
reall men act and behave
i swear you will never again
play with a heart of an african woman

Theodore Roethke

My Papa's Waltz

The whiskey on your breath
Could make a small boy dizzy;
But I hung on like death:
Such waltzing was not easy.

We romped until the pans
Slid from the kitchen shelf;
My mother's countenance
Could not unfrown itself.

The hand that held my wrist
Was battered on one knuckle;
At every step you missed
My right ear scraped a buckle.

You beat time on my head
With a palm caked hard by dirt,
Then waltzed me off to bed
Still clinging to your shirt.

Sweet Tooth

A corolla gleaming, on a heaven bound stem
Each petal, woven from celestial twine
The intricate tapestry of a time-tested beauty
Embodiment of the grandeur of creation
Loved by the masses, man and insect alike
As life forms fall to the timeless allure of her epic beauty
Buzzing dwarfs and ogling giants
Caught in the trappings of her charm and fragrance
As bees swarm spell bound to the oozing syrup
Dancing to the waltzing flow of a vivacious Aeolus
Even man, a collector, of bouquets of flowers
Waltzing to the cadences of the Blue Danube
As a flower embodies the cornerstone of a blissful sweetness
To unveil a neglected truth, the kinship of man and bug
Both opportune feeders of an earthly sweetness
One in the vastness of the opulence of love
Other in the generosity of overflowing nectar
As true sweetness softens the hold of man and creature
Within vacant spaces of void hearts and unfilled honeycombs
To grace on man and beast, a sweet tooth for life
