Sylvia Plath writing in her journal, 23 Fitzroy Road, London, February 1963
7 a.m.
Beyond the bedpost
no mirage of glad husband
moving tall towards me with his English offer
of toast and marmalade,
a cup of tea.
He’s with another.
She has mongrel blood,
a Knightsbridge accent,
can turn a man into
a spinning top,
an arsonist in the house of marriage.
One day she’ll become
a book that my husband
has tired of reading.
I’ll go soon, far from
Massachusetts, Devon, London,
the zoo where my selves are caged,
venomous snake,
sacrificial lamb,
sleepless monkey examining its fleas.
Outside snowflakes fall,
drafts of a poem torn to bits.
In the night sky
I see the Zoo-keeper.
From his starlit belt
important keys hang.
He moves towards me,
I towards him.
We’ll embrace
where it’s black.

A Husband...
A husband should be
Loyal and honest
A husband should be
Strong and protective
A husband should be
Loving and romantic
A husband should be
Patient and understanding
A husband should know
When enough is enough
A husband should know
When to fight and when to cry
A husband should know
all your goals and dreams
A husband should know
your strengths and well as your weaknesses
A husband needs to be a true man
A husband needs to love you unconditionally
A husband needs to know your heart is forever his

My Husband
It is true:
My husband
has never
taken out
the garbage
from our little house
in the suburbs.
My husband
has never
taken our children
out for the night
to trick-or-treating
as I sit
on the porch in a witch hat.
My husband
has never
come home from
a long day
to a special meal
I have prepared
just for him.
My husband
has never
told me he loves me
beside a warm fire
on our honeymoon.
But he will.

I know one husband and wife who, whatever the official reasons given to the court for the break up of their marriage, were really divorced because the husband believed that nobody ought to read while he was talking and the wife that nobody ought to talk while she was reading.

Saved
I was blinded by the devil,
Born already ruined,
Stone-cold dead
As I stepped out of the womb.
By his grace I have been touched,
By his word I have been healed,
By his hand Ive been delivered,
By his spirit Ive been sealed.
Ive been saved
By the blood of the lamb,
Saved
By the blood of the lamb,
Saved,
Saved,
And Im so glad.
Yes, Im so glad,
Im so glad,
So glad,
I want to thank you, lord,
I just want to thank you, lord,
Thank you, lord.
By his truth I can be upright,
By his strength I do endure,
By his power Ive been lifted,
In his love I am secure.
He bought me with a price,
Freed me from the pit,
Full of emptiness and wrath
And the fire that burns in it.
Ive been saved
By the blood of the lamb,
Saved
By the blood of the lamb,
Saved,
Saved,
And Im so glad.
Yes, Im so glad,
Im so glad,
So glad,
I want to thank you, lord,
I just want to thank you, lord,
Thank you, lord.
Nobody to rescue me,
Nobody would dare,
I was going down for the last time,
But by his mercy Ive been spared.
Not by works,
But by faith in him who called,
For so long Ive been hindered,
For so long Ive been stalled.
Ive been saved
By the blood of the lamb,
Saved
By the blood of the lamb,
Saved,
Saved,
And Im so glad.
Yes, Im so glad, Im so glad,
So glad, I want to thank you, lord,
I just want to thank you, lord,
Thank you, lord.

Poetry: Ode of Good Wife
Ode of Good Wife
By Tang Poet Zhang Ji (768-830)
Translated by Laijon Liu 20090613
You know I have husband,
So you give me a pair of pearl.
I thank your touching thoughts,
So I tie them on my red coat.
My family dwells on tall building,
And they rest within the high walls;
My husband holds his sharp spear,
And guarding in the palace light.
I understand your heart clearly,
As reading the sun and the moon.
But I’ve sworn to serve my husband,
To be with him in life and death.
And now I must return these pearls,
They are bright as my falling tears.
I only have one thing to regret:
Why didn’t we meet before my marriage?
Note:
This poem is written in simple words, but talks about the controversial topic of love and marriage of society. From its surface that readers may think that poet praises the wife’s choice, but think again, the poet also feels pity about the wife’s condition that she choose to repay her husband to be with him, but refrain from thinking of her love that she really has feeling for. She knows how her family receives the benefit of her marriage, because her husband serves in palace. She is not materialistic at all, but she knows her husband loves her, so she has to hold her true will of pursuing for true love or someone she feels for. Yes, she is a good wife, for she put herself on the altar of love, yet she can’t just privately build another relationship with the man who gift her “a pair of pearl”.62 Chinese characters that shoots a love movie, and he does not give his readers his answer, but only to raise a question. Not only that, this is a political poem, that the poet composes this poem to refuse a minister’s invitation to join the new political party in the Tang court, Chinese poet often use woman and man’ relationship for metaphor of political and social relationship (Like Contemporary Singer Cui Jian’s song ‘Have Nothing To My Name’) , as officials to emperor, students to teacher… but even we just read the poem from its surface, still it brings the same question of principal of loyalty and friendship.

Where It Was At Back Then
Husband,
last night I dreamt
they cut off your hands and feet.
Husband,
you whispered to me,
Now we are both incomplete.
Husband,
I held all four
in my arms like sons and daughters.
Husband,
I bent slowly down
and washed them in magical waters.
Husband,
I placed each one
where it belonged on you.
'A miracle,'
you said and we laughed
the laugh of the well-to-do.

My Husband.
Husband is someone;
You spend most of your life with.
And with him;
You are for years.
My life has become strong;
For my husband is not wrong.
My life has become independent;
For my husband never let me dependent.
My life has become pure;
For my husband had every cure.
My life has become romantic;
For my husband is very aromatic.
My life had a new beginning;
For my husband was nearing.
And the most valuable gift-
My husband has given me;
Are my 2 wonderful and the best kids-
And I thank God,
For the wonderful family he has given me.

ICE Sally Being Nosy
Sally is just a typical woman and nosy
Upon reading this note - ICE Sally
and with her contact phone number
She got furious like a tiger, after
reading it from contact page of her husband cell phone
She summoned the husband, demanded for a reason
Why she is being iced, dumped or to divorce her?
The husband just laughed at her
He said; Sally you are really so snoopy
ICE is short for - In Case of Emergency

Bronwyn
A stern ageing woman is Bronwyn her dyed blond hair caged up in a bun
I can't say that i know her husband but life for him can't be much fun
For she is quite opinionated and she likes to have her own way
And no doubt in affairs of the household that she would have the final say
If her marriage ever does founder she won't find herself in demand
Since to others she is not respectful though respect for herself she command
But her husband is one worth admiring in an unequal partnership he has hung in there
For thirty years he has lived with a dominant woman men like him have always been rare
But then suppose not all males are macho as not all females are gentle and nice
And Bronwyn's husband he must give way to her or leave her is his other choice,
Bronwyn she is one in her mid fifties self confident and rather proud
The President of the ladies golf club she likes to stand out in the crowd
'Tis said she has her husband well trained he does not drink alcohol or tobacco smoke
For thirty years he has been loyal to her he must be a very nice bloke.

A Glimpse of Union
A mid-40ish couple,
walking from their back yard,
a quaint, quaint house,
trellised, treed, covered with skillfully placed green.
She a straight-laced, organic woman,
with black-framed glasses, utilitarian, not fashionable,
a sweater befitting her age,
befitting her comfort with her age,
and her husband,
even more organic than she,
bearded, capped, outdoors-man jacketed, walking up behind her,
together carrying a large, white planter to the house,
a tangle of green
sprouting high above the rim of the plastic holder.
They come more and more into view
as I walk up this gray, placid street,
the perspective of the house, shifting, to reveal their moving forms.
But they don’t seem husband and wife,
or not just husband and wife.
They appear partners,
partners in life,
partners in crime,
partners in all things gardening,
one in one,
partners in love.

Spinning Top
(d. pickerill/p. odonoughue)
You let me go
til Im weared out
And when Im ready you say youre not
You start a flame, Im not to blame
For what I do
You heat me up, Im all aglow
I move too fast to take it slow
If you could see what you do to me
Youd feel so low
Chorus:
You keep me moving, dont let me stop
You got the whip, Im your spinning top
You keep me moving, dont let me stop
You love keeps spinning me round
You take me up to get me high
And yet you know I cant fly
If I take a chance on this romance
I know Ill fall
Chorus
You turn me round so I dont know
My left from right or where to go
You just dont care and thats not fair
Youre hurting me
Chorus (x2)
Your love keeps spinning me round
Im just your spinning top
Im just your spinning top
Your spinning top
Im just your spinning top
Oh, your spinning top
Spin me, spin me
Im your spinning top
Im just your spinning top
Spinning, spinning top.

Marriage.
A bond which is sensitive-
In which we share a lot.
Leaving our homeland-
We expect a lot.
Marriage is something-
Where we give in a lot.
At the sametime in return-
We want a lot.
Both, husband and wife-
Need to mingle a lot.
Priorites of life-
Change a lot.
Life revolves now-
Near husband a lot.
Lots of expenses-
To buy gifts a lot.
Time is short-
But dreams are lot.
Both, husband and wife-
Work a lot.
As evening arrives-
They talk a lot.
As time pass by-
Family is lot.
Even with grudges-
Love is lot.
And you see-
Marriage is loved a lot.

You're living in paradise
I'm getting tired of hearing your silly complaints.
You're angry because your husband isn't a saint.
Your husband forgets and leaves the toilet seat up and you think this isn't very nice.
You think you have it bad but you're really living in paradise.
Your husband has a few flaws but in my eyes he's great.
When I tell you about some other husbands, he'll be a man who you 'll appreciate.
I've seen husbands who beat and raped their wives and some husbands who even threatened them with guns.
And you complain about the superficial things your husband has done.
Close to where I live, a man killed his wife and then set her on fire.
Be thankful that your life isn't so dire.
These poor women's lives have been completely destroyed.
And you have the nerve to complain because your husband goes out once a week with the boys.
Before you complain about your husband again, maybe you should think twice.
You think you have it bad but you're really living in paradise.

The Woman In The Short-Shorts. (A Very Funny Story!)
There was a woman wearing very short shorts...
The Husband just stared at them.
You'd of thought that She just had performed a can, can? ...
But still He stared as best as can, only because, He was just a Man.
You might say that 'Her risen hem...
Attracted many Male stares, all of them.
Men just love a curvaceous booty...
Their eyes are always performing their, usual eye candied duty.
That Husband was slapped as hit...
By the looks of His right eye, You'd think Him as landed in a Wasp nest, or an Asp's, or a Rattle snake pit.
Black and blue, as well as exhibiting a nasty, large swell...
Was His right eye, as easily, You'd tell.
This Mild Mannered Husband, would no longer stare...
For the benefit of His eyes, He would really and cautiously care

Togetherness Is Gone
My wife,
Stop cleaning the house
Please come here
To accompany me
My husband,
The house is dirty
We aren't able to pay the maid
You've already retired
My wife,
Don't cook
It's a holiday
Let us eat outside the home
My husband,
Don't eat outdoors
We need efficient
You've already retired
My wife,
Let's keep me company
Why the rush to sleep
It's still early
My husband,
I have to get up early
To clean the house
And prepare breakfast
My wife,
I have to go this morning
My friends were waiting
Long we don't meet
My husband,
Be careful on the road
Greetings for your friends
But, why not breakfast?
My wife,
You have fallen asleep last night
I see you sleeping soundly all
I don't have the heart to wake you
My husband,
I'm sorry
I don't welcome you home
But, why should sleep on the sofa?
My wife,
I have to go again
I have social activities
With my old friends
My husband,
Don't forget dinner at home
You look very dapper
Although not wear perfume
My wife,
sorry, we were very busy
I had dinner with friends
Happy dinner, dear
My husband,
I woke up too early
But you're not at home
Where are you?
My wife,
I came home at midnight
I have to go early in the morning
I don't have the heart to wake you
My husband,
I just finished washing clothes
I've found the clothes that you wear today
But, why the smell of perfume?

The Real Wife
Teaches her children to love and serve God always
Honors her husband and loves him sacrificially
Engages in learning activities that promote holiness in her
marriage
Redeems and restores her husband when he falls out of grace
Expects her husband to be her teacher, leader, mentor and
counselor
Acknowledges her husband's' foibles but never use them to
belittle him
Loves her husbands and treat him as the king of her earthly
kingdom
Wins her husband's affection and friendship with her 'savoir
faire et vivre'
Initiates special activities that please her husband and boosts
his confidence
Forgives her husbands with no intention to regurgitate past
offenses
Excels in matters of the soul and heart and excite her husbands
with holy living

Super Woman
She is very strong, does not complain about anything
she makes mistake, but still moving forward
Her husband is so proud of her
She takes responsibility husband home or not.
She did do all the paper works and gave her husband to sign.
She do everything, by herself. Everything
Super woman, who is like her?
She is every woman, wonder woman.
You know when you see her.

Strange but True
Strange man laying in my bed-
Thank you for your attempt to comfort and your kind words you've said.
I mean no offense to you,
right now I just need my husband instead.
Strange man, you are beginning to prick a wound.
Please stop saying you are my husband!
I'm crescendoing, this is all too soon.
I cannot argue that you say you are my husband.
I can only offer my reasons you cannot be.
Strange man I assure you, you are not him.
He's a survivor, a fighter, a faithful family man.
As a matter of fact, in this very moment, I need him so very badly right now.
As a matter of fact, I hope I do offend you-
a coward, a liar claiming you're my husband,
how?
