Stopping Shopping

Aren’t we ever satisfied by shopping?
Just the thought of popping
Or, as some do, bopping
To the supermarket gets me hopping
Mad. Since my bag burst, popping,
When I was struggling, clopping
Home with the shopping
And distinctly dropping
And predictably plopping
Food on floors, with milk slopping
And smashed eggs dropping,
Making everywhere sopping
So it needed mopping
For, if I didn’t, they’d be stopping
There, where they’d be copping
Some unprintable whopping
Rude words that were popping
Out of my mouth. I’m lopping
Some out of this, not to offend topping,
Polite folk like you. And I’m chopping
And also quickly cropping
This poem short ’cos I’m flopping
With exhaustion. And I need propping
Up. So now I’m stopping -
Stupid shopping.

Shopping

Were buying and selling your history
How we go about it is no mystery
We check it with the city, then change the law
Are you looking forward?
Now you want some more
Were s-h-o-pp-i-n-g, were shopping
Its easy when you got all the information
Inside help, no investigation
(no investigation, investigation)
No questions in the house, no give and take
Theres a big bang in the city
Were all on the make
Were s-h-o-pp-i-n-g, were shopping
Were s-h-o-pp-i-n-g, were shopping
Our gain is your loss, thats the price you pay
I heard it in the house of commons: everythings for sale
Were shopping
Were shopping
Were s-h-o-pp-i-n-g, were shopping
Were s-h-o-pp-i-n-g, were shopping
Ah ah ah, ah ah ah, ah ah ah, ah ah
Ah ah ah, ah ah ah, ah ah ah, ah ah
Were s-h-o-pp-i-n-g, were shopping
Were s-h-o-pp-i-n-g, were shopping
(were shopping

Penguins

Penguins
Just see black and white.
No grey
Or colours burning bright.
People in treacle
Stuck in routine.
Hiding from beauty
They've never seen.
Unlike you and I.
We look up to the sky.

Roses
Unsmelt.
Emotion
Unfel t.
That perfume after the rain.
Never stopping
To see buds popping
In Spring.
Just window shopping
Again.
Unlike you and I.
Who watch the ocean
And cry.

Shopping Without Edgar Allan

We will always shopping go
Without Edgar Allan Poe.
We go shopping, hopping, hopping,
From this store to that.
Edgar Allan was a Poe
Who never ever had to go
Shopping.

O.K., and so perhaps I lied,
And so perhaps his lovely bride,
Annabelle Lee and he
Went shopping, like
The rest of us.

Back The Way

(carly simon)
Back the way it was before
Before the door was opened
Back the way it was berfore
Before the ice was broken
Back the way it used to be
Everyone thought i was funny
But nobody ever asked me
If i wanted tiny little sandwiches
Sent up to my room
Back the way it was before
I was always waiting
Everybody thought i was okay
But now im scintillating
But the way it used to be
Some people thought i was pretty
But not many passes were made at me
Back the way it was before
But now my prayers are answered
And my star is on the rise
Flashbulbs popping, traffic stopping
Everyones my best friend
Back the way it used to be
Money was always a tyrant
I spent it all paying my rent
Back the way i was before
But now my prayers are answered
And my star is on the rise
Flashbulbs popping, traffic stopping
Everyones my best friend
Back the way it used to be
Sing a song of long ago
Back the way it used to be.

Last Minute Christmas Shopping

Just a few more days left, to get in
the last minute Christmas shopping!
You'll be running around like crazy, as
into each store, you'll be popping! With
list in hand, you start to look, to find what's
marked by each name. Hoping, you'll find
what you had in mind and if you don't,
there's no one, you can blame. It's really
not smart when you leave it to the last
minute, for when you do, it's harder on you
for you put so much energy, into it. Last
minute shopping, is the hardest thing to
do, it can leave you tired and run down.
Next year be smart, get a head start, so
you won't have to run, all over town. Now, it's
time to be on your way, as you accomplished
what you came for. Everything is complete,
despite your aching feet, but when you get
home, you'll kick off your shoes and watch,
them, fall to the floor!

We'll Go Down Ourselves

"What shall we do, as years go by,
And Peace remains a stranger --
With Richmond yet in rebel hands,
And Washington in danger?
What shall we do for leaders, when
Old Age this race is cropping?"
I asked whom I met --
And didn't it set them hopping!

"What shall we do? What shall we do?
Why, lay them on the shelves,
And we'll go down ourselves,
And teach the rebels something new,
And teach the rebels something new."

"What shall we do when armies march
To storm the rebel quarters --
If as of yore, their marches end
Beside Potomac's waters?
May not we call our soldiers home?
May not we think of stopping?"
I strove to frame the question fair --
But didn't it set them hopping!

"What shall we do when all the men
For battle have enlisted --
And yet the rebels hold their ground,
And law is yet resisted?"
Instead of doing as I should --
The theme politely dropping,
I ventured yet one question more --
Oh didn't it get them hopping!

Shopping for Yesterday

Busy crowds, lonely hearts, broken dreams
Shopping for yesterday.
Visiting the shared moments,
In all the familiar places
When shopping for yesterday.

We are all prisoners of the past
When shopping for yesterday
Knee deep in our loneliness
Surrounded by the crowd
We’re shopping for yesterday.

Pictures and memories
Half-forgotten words
Time slipping away
From the windmills of my mind
When shopping for yesterday.

In coma dead asleep

Children wake up in spirits dry
Dead dry no food for termites

People Ask For More To Drop

Their eyes are popping out a lot.
Yes they're popping out a lot.
From what has been exposed not 'kosher''.
With a dropping from their spots.
And this some people think is cool.
With no rushing it to stop..
Because they think that this is 'super'.
And they dance and fingerpop.

Their eyes are popping out a lot.
Yes they're popping out a lot.
From what has been exposed not 'kosher''.
With a dropping from their spots.
And this some people think is cool.
With no rushing it to stop..
Because they think that this is 'super'.
And they dance and fingerpop.

Everything done has a beat.
And they dance and fingerpop.
Nobody cares what sense they keep.
While they dance and fingerpop.
No matter what is in the streets.
People dance and fingerpop.
There is no respect shown to leaders.
With an ignorance they've got.

Their eyes are popping out a lot.
Yes they're popping out a lot.
From what has been exposed not 'kosher''.
With a dropping from their spots.
And this some people think is cool.
With no rushing it to stop..
Because they think that this is 'super'.
And they dance and fingerpop.

There is no respect shown to leaders.
With an ignorance they've got.
Nobody cares what sense they keep.
While they dance and fingerpop.
Because they think that this is 'super'.
And they dance and fingerpop.
With so much of it that they feed.
And people ask for more to drop.
And people ask for more to drop.
Nonstop.
Nonstop.
And people ask for more to drop.
Nonstop.
Nonstop.

Everything done has a beat.
And they dance and fingerpop.
Nobody cares what sense they keep.
While they dance and fingerpop.
No matter what is in the streets.
People dance and fingerpop.
There is no respect shown to leaders.
With an ignorance they've got.
Nonstop.
Nonstop.
And people ask for more to drop.

Odd musings of an impatient heart

A shopping cart sits alongside the road
Its taunts me as its stands there alone
Just a piece of metal to passers by
But I see that metal and swallow a sigh
And now I've had more than I can take
Its eating me up and I begin to wish
That I could leave this place for a while
Or maybe forever that would be even better
Maybe I could meet someone who is new
And his words would be only the truth
Not lies compared to the thoughts in his head
But I see this shopping cart stranded alone
Just waiting for someone to come take it home
And i wonder of all the things that could make me sad
How a lone shopping cart had the effect that it had

My shopping list.

I am going twice a week in the supermarket,
Always preparing beforehand my shopping list,
For example,
Eggs,
Semi-skimmed milk,
A clear consciousness, and
Two bottles of bourbon,
Fresh fruits, and not forget to buy,
Vegetables,
Self-confidence, and, let's see what more, maybe…
One fruit-juice carton, or perhaps two,
A yogurt with low fat,
Fulfillment and something else I have completely forgotten.

Furnished And Burnished

My feet beat a rhythm across the Shopping Arcade floors,
and in through the swinging doors.
Up speeding lifts, to counters packed with attractive goods
and gifts.

Now, making straight for the place where there is glamour
for the face, one spies lipsticks by the score, so many
shades that one cannot but adore.
I must buy more.

That concealing blemish cream which smoothes on like a dream,
Is a must. They still stock it, I trust.

Eyebrow pencil in colour ‘blonde’, which just has to be donned,
and mascara in black.
I think I’m on the right track.

Some shadow for the eyes too, in gold, brown, silver, or blue.
It’s so reflective and so effective.

My countenance is now furnished and burnished. Such finesse.
And now I have to confess, that I am ready
to launch a new me, with a new philosophy.

So with my shopping complete, my feet retreat and beat
a rhythm across the Shopping Arcade floors,
and out through the swinging doors.

Romeo And Juliet Go Shopping

Getting out of cul de sacs
where I’m often forced to stop
sometimes makes me think of Sax
Fifth Avenue, and want to shop,
but if there are no nosey parkers
who watch me going on my spree,
I head instead for Neiman Marcus,
where customers can park for free.
If people watch me in the cul
de sac I choose another market,
and head for somewhere cheap and dull
like Macy’s, Bloomingdale or Target,
for when I’ve got the shopping urge
I don’t want anyone to know
My only motive is to splurge,
like Juliet and Romeo
when buying one another drugs,
shared together, going Dutch,
heart-stopping shopping just for hugs
for which they surely paid too much.

Inspired my e-mail correspondence with my Pennsylvanian cosmic twin, Shelley, who responded to my poem “Barack not AmBushed” by opining that she hoped that the Obama would find “some road to quiet, if not peace”. My response to this delusory aspiration was: “Cul de sac, perhaps.” And then came this poem.

Christmas At The Big-K

At Christmas she went to K Mart
Which wasn’t very smart.
She got in the way
Of a mob that day
And was floored by a shopping cart.

Shopping sucks at Christmas time
Even at the five and dime.
Try shopping on line
And you will be fine
And you won’t be the victim of a crime
Or what’s more you won’t miss your Miller time.

A poem a day - Shopping with a friend

Shopping with a friend is cool
There's nothing forbidden, no rule
And no parents to say what's suitable
Or to tell you what's unaffordable,
Actually you don't need to be rich
To try on whatever your eyes wish.

Shopping with a friend is so nice
You might forget budget and price
And buy things you don't need
Just by habit, not by greed
Like get ten or eleven similar tops
From two or three different shops.

Shopping with a friend is funny
Even if you don't have money
You can try a formal blue shirt
With a long gypsy orange skirt
Pretend to buy them but act lost
Then don't, because they're low-cost.

Shopping with a friend is naughty
You can act humble or haughty
Change personnalities between stores:
Be a girl who laughs and snores
Or an english tourist, elegant and neat
Who went walking on the street.

But shopping is more pleasant with a friend
Who has a thousand dollars to lend.

Her Shopping Expedition

She picked up the bags which contained all her shopping,
Trying to carry them along without dropping
The contents. Hoping the handles wouldn't give way,
Spreading her purchases around on display.

She managed as far as the bus rendezvous,
Then one handle snapped and then it was two,
And over the ground rolled, jars, tins and fruit,
Clattering noisily, as they travelled en route.

How embarrassing this sort of happening can be,
All you have bought, there, for the public to see,
And no one offering to help you collect,
Your shopping. She felt such an despondent reject.

Then out of the blue, a gallant young Bart,
Offered her his help, his hand, and his heart!

For a working class clientele
Everything for sale
With chemist and optician

All made in heaven.

Star parade caked music.
Push your food around Mike

Loving your food to death

Cartesian Shopping

When all of our home spun philosophies
Focus on shopping and spending and such
Then its time to redress priorities
For those things don't mean very much.

It's hard to imagine Pythagoras
Out shopping with Plato and Kant
Debating the appeal of the packaging
Of something they really don't want.

Now I know we all shop 'cos we have to eat
And we're keen on good prices it seems
But all of these retailing strategies
Seem to be trying too hard for our dreams.

So I turned to another philosopher
To understand what is going on
His words have a truth that now resonates
Like 'I shop and therefore I am'.

Well that's not precisely the words he said
He was a Frenchman and had to obscure
The truth that we now have to contemplate
When Wal Mart we have to endure.

Ah, Rene Descartes was a genius
He had matters under his thumb
When asked to go shopping he'd decline
Just saying 'cogito ergo sum'.

What If Girls Were More Like Guys?

Girls like nothing more
than making a guy run,
carrying a wish list
that may weight a ton.
Ignoring the work that should be done
to get away and have some fun.

Their actions make some questions rise,
some questions like the whats and whys,
and what if girls
were more like guys.

Not shopping for a thousand years,
not shopping in Macy's
not shopping in Sears.
Then, competition will be men's only fear.

This may be the life that men will like,
no more whats and no more whys,
when girls become
more like guys.
