Soot On My Face

Longing forest bright
twilight tipped lyard
sykinard fan

Petals sunflower tears
violin playing banjo
pikin band.

Clors pink and Black
like johnny cash
pam tillis.

Knowing your so fine
guitar jackin fine

Johnny B. Goode

Deep down in louisianna
Close to new orleans,
Way back up in the woods
Among the evergreens,
There stand a country cabin
Made of clay and wood,
Where lives a young country boy
Named johnny b.goode,
He never ever learned
To read or write a book so well,
But he could play his guitar
Just like a-ringing a bell.
Go go, go johnny go go go!
Go johnny go go go!
Go johnny go go go!
Go johnny go go go!
Aah johnny b.goode!
He used to carry his guitar
In a gunny sack,
Sit beneath the trees
By the railroad track.
Oh sitting and a-playing
In the shade,
Drumming to the rhythm
That the drivers made.
People passing by
Used to stop and say:
My oh my,
That country boy can play.
Go go, go johnny go go go!
Go johnny go go go!
Go johnny go go go!
Go johnny go go go!
Aah johnny b.goode!
Well his mama told him:
Someday you will be a man.
And you will be the leader
Of a big old band.
Many people coming
From miles around,
To hear you play your music
Till the sun goes down.
Maybe some day
Your name will be in light,
Saying: johnny
B. goode tonight!
Go go, go johnny go go go!
Go johnny go go go!
Go johnny go go go!
Go johnny go go go!
Aah johnny b.goode!

There was nobody at the time who was playing slide guitar like Johnny, and nobody, or no white guys at least, that was playing country blues like that on the acoustic guitar. And it was at that point that I realized what Johnny had to offer.

Pink Ribbon Black

I’m a restless and corrupted one
Hoping for eternal darkness
And an end to they bright shining sun

I’m tearfully dry, embroiled by fear
Trapped inside my tired mind
Cold mountains close in and harshness is here

My sun set, back so many years
Got lost among my tethered roads,
Knowing the way of only not knowing where to go

Into the distance, a pink ribbon of black
I don’t know how it happened but I’m broken
Stretched to the point of no turning back

Ice now over tipped my wings,
The earth approaching fast,
This bird no long swoops and no longer swings

Earth approaching fast,
Spiraling, out of control I lost my grasp,
Earthbound misfit approaching fast

Pink dreams irresistible
That pink ribbon still so black
Pink ribbon black incredible….

I’m pulling back

Jelly Roll

Oh yeah, yeah
Ain't that bad, ain't that black, ain't that fine, yeah
Ain't that bad, ain't that black and ain't that fine.
Sunday after meetings and Saturday with a man
Sweet potato pie when you eat from the pan
Ain't that bad, ain't that black and ain't that fine
Ain't that bad and ain't that black and ain't that fine.
Can you dig it?
Dancing the latest dance and eating ribs and tips
Digging all the new sounds and drinking gin in sips
Ain't that bad, ain't that black and ain't that fine, baby
Ain't that bad, ain't that black, ain't that fine
I could go for a ride on your sweet jelly roll
But I wouldn't give nothing for my juicy, juicy soul.
I could go for a ride on your sweet jelly roll
But I wouldn't give nothing for my juicy, juicy soul
Ain't that bad, ain't that black and ain't that fine
Ain't that bad and ain't that black and ain't that fine
Let's go, let's go, let's go.
To tie up my do right (?) and tighten up my 'fro
Wrapping myself in black and still I shine and glow
Ain't that bad, ain't that black and ain't that fine
Ain't that bad, ain't that black and ain't that fine.

Violin

Four strings across the bridge,
Ready to carry me over,
Over the quavers, drunk in the bars,
Out of the realm of the orchestra,
Out of the realm of the orchestra.
Filling me up with the shivers.
Filling me up with the shivers and quivers.
Filling me up with the shivers.
Get the bow going!
Let it scream to me:
Violin! violin! violin!
Get the bow going!
Let it scream to me:
Violin! violin! violin!
Paganini up on the chimney,
Lord of the dance,
With nero and old nicky.
Whack that devil
Into my fiddlestick!
Give me the banshees for b.v.s,*
Give me the banshees for b.v.s.
Jigging along with the fiddle, oh, johnny.
Jigging along with the fiddle-dee-dee.
Jigging along with the fiddle, oh, johnny.
Jigging along with the fiddle-dee-diddle-dee-dee!
Get the bow going!
Let it scream to me:
Violin! violin! violin!
Get the bow going!
Let it scream to me:
Violin! violin! violin!
Get the bow going!
Let it scream to me:
Violin! violin! violin!
Get the bow going!
Let it scream to me:

Let It Run

Your coming up the walk,
Your banging on the door
The seconds of the loneliness
Are coming through the floor
Let it run, let it run, let it run
And out of the band comes a guitar man
Singing come on let it run
Called up alone gathered up the light
Told everyone that everythings was going fine
Let it run, let it run, let it run
From out of the corner cam johnny be good
Singing come on let it run
Whoa, and up above the stars are bright
And well let it run let it run tonight
Up above the stars are bright
Let it run let it run tonight, tonight, tonight
Its getting louder now its pounding at my brain
And if it ever stops Im gonna start it up again
Let it run, let it run, let it run
From out of the valley came long tall sally
Singing come on let it run
Im already gone let it run
Come on let it run

Fine As Fine Can Be

Youre as soft as the rose
Youre as sweet as the honey
Youre as warm as the bright morning sun
Youre as cool as the breeze on the last days of april
Youre as fine as fine can be
Youre like time is to space
Youre like faith is to trustin
Youre like blue is to feelin unkind
Youre like joy is for love,
Youre like dreams are for chasin
Youre as fine as fine can be
And when I am gone my thoughts are all with you
Youre my little angel you see
Youre as bright as the moon
Youre as light as a feather
Youre as fine as fine can be
Like the rain is for the crops
Youre like food for my thoughts
Youre like true is for knowin whats not
Youre like leaves are for trees
Youre like bees are for buzzin
Youre as fine as fine can be
Youre as bright as the moon
Youre as light as a feather

Its Up To You

This song was first released on the back home again album. it is the only album it has been released on.
You can do whatever you want to do
Wherever you want to go its up to you
And wouldnt it be fine
Following your heart, playing your own part
You and me out on a farm, let the sun be our alarm
Kickin off your shoes, doin what we choose
And wouldnt it be fine
Knowing that your mine anytime you want to be
But I dont want to own you
I just want to hold you
I dont want to need you
I just like to see you smile and stay for awhile
And if the times get rough, being free might be enough
To see us through the storm and keep our feelings warm
And wouldnt it be fine
Looking back and knowing that we helped each other find
You can do whatever you want to do
Wherever you want to go its up to you
And wouldnt it be fine
Following your heart knowing from the start
Its up to you
Its up to you
Its up to you

Dixie's Land

1 I wish I was in de land ob cotton,
2 Old times dar am not forgotten;
3 Look away! Look away! Look away! Dixie Land!
4 In Dixie Land whar I was born in,
5 Early on one frosty mornin,
6 Look away! Look away! Look away! Dixie Land!

7 Den I wish I was in Dixie! Hooray! Hooray!
8 In Dixie's Land we'll take our stand, to lib an' die in Dixie.
9 Away! away! away down South in Dixie.
10 Away! away! away down south in Dixie.

11 Ole missus marry 'Will-de-weaber';
12 Willum was a gay deceaber;
13 Look away, look away, look away, Dixie land!
14 But when he put his arm around her,
15 He smiled as fierce as a forty-pounder;
16 Look away, look away, look away, Dixie land!

17 Den I wish I was in Dixie! Hooray! Hooray!
18 In Dixie's Land we'll take our stand, to lib an' die in Dixie.
19 Away! away! away down South in Dixie.
20 Away! away! away down south in Dixie.

21 His face was sharp as a butcher's cleaber;
22 But dat did not seem to greab her;
23 Look away, look away, look away, Dixie land!
24 Ole missus acted de foolish part,
25 And died for a man dat broke her heart;
26 Look away, look away, look away, Dixie land!

27 Den I wish I was in Dixie! Hooray! Hooray!
28 In Dixie's Land we'll take our stand, to lib an' die in Dixie.
29 Away! away! away down South in Dixie.
30 Away! away! away down south in Dixie.

31 Now here's health to de next ole missus,
32 An' all the gals dat want to kiss us;
33 Look away, look away, look away, Dixie land!
34 But if you want to drive 'way sorrow,
35 Come and hear dis song tomorrow;
36 Look away, look away, look away, Dixie land!

37 Den I wish I was in Dixie! Hooray! Hooray!
38 In Dixie's Land we'll take our stand, to lib an' die in Dixie.
39 Away! away! away down South in Dixie.
40 Away! away! away down south in Dixie.

41 Dar's buckwheat cakes an' Injin batter,
42 Makes you fat or a little fatter;
43 Look away, look away, look away, Dixie land!
44 Den hoe it down an' scratch your grabble,
45 To Dixie's land I'm bound to trabble;
46 Look away, look away, look away, Dixie land!

47 Den I wish I was in Dixie! Hooray! Hooray!
48 In Dixie's Land we'll take our stand, to lib an' die in Dixie.
49 Away! away! away down South in Dixie.

Very Fine Love

(bob dipiero / jim photoglo)
I never knew how good love could be
All Id ever known was make believe
So many times Ive played the fool
Baby, til I met you
Now everything has fallen in place
You can tell by the smile on my face
For every lonely tear that Ive cried
Im that much satisfied
Weve got a fine, fine, very fine love
Weve got a fine, fine, very fine love
You know it when you find one
Shining like a diamond
Its so fine, fine, very fine love
How did I ever live without your love?
Its the only thing Im certain of
No matter what Im going through
I know I can count on you
You are more precious to me every day
Life is better now in every way
You dont have to lay the world at my feet
You have made my world complete
Weve got a fine, fine, very fine love, oh, oh
Weve got a fine, fine, very fine love
You know it when you find one
Shining like a diamond
Its so fine, so fine, very fine love
Ive got no apprehensions
Youve got the best intentions
Weve got a, weve got a, weve got a fine, fine, very fine love
Weve got a fine, fine, very fine love
A very fine
A very fine love
Very fine love, ah, ha, ooh, hoo
So fine, hey, so fine
So good, so good love

A Love So Fine

(paradise by the sea)
Well theres sparklin angels on your fire-escape tonight
They line them up for you trying to keep you safe
But with them fire alley burglars on a midnight vamp
You lost your heart on main street to a beautiful tramp
Thats all right, I dont mind
'cause I got (you got) a love so fine
A love so fine, me and my baby
A love so fine, me and my baby
A love so fine
The rats traps are filled with soul crusaders
Everybodys popping and hopping and jumping
At little melvin and the invaders
Youre out on the floor and you cant get up
Your babys out there dancing and struttin that continental strut
She looks so good, she looks so fine (she blows your mind)
Oh we (you) got a love so fine
A love so fine
A love so fine
A love so fine
Everybodys reeling when the band hits the ceiling
Dont you know you just wanna go
The boys start (joint gets) rockin, your knees start knockin
Everybody party, go
Lets go
The bars closed down (its 3 oclock and the bars closed)
You walk to the shady side of town all alone (well you walk along with your)
Papas screaming at you, he wants some cash (baby to the dirty side of town)
Mamas chewing you (me) off about hanging out with (alley) trash
Thats all right, oh you dont mind
cause youve got a love so fine, oh me and my baby
A love so fine
A love so fine
A love so fine

Chick Magnet

Don’t play the cello if you want
to be a magnet for the chicks,
a guy who on guitar strings picks
is thought be far more gallant.
I learnt this fact from Yo-Yo Ma,
who probably believes that poets
have also far more luck with coeds
than cellists. Maybe many are,
but I am not, unfortunate
with poems as he is with cello.
I wish I were a magnet fellow,
and made the chicks importunate,
first for my poems, then my bod,
but since I don’t play the guitar,
my life is black as café noir,
and I am lonelier than God.

Charlie Rose on December 3,2008 interviewed Yo-Yo Ma, who accompanied on his cello the singer and songwriter from North Carolina, James Taylor, who also plays the guitar. Yo Yo explained that he has played the cello since the age of three, and that this has not made him a chick magnet. James Taylor started off by playing the cello but gave it up for the guitar, which Yo-Yo considers a wise decision.

Pop Goes The World

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls,
Pop goes the world, by men without hats
Johnny played guitar, jenny played bass.
Name of the band is the human race.
Everybody tell me have you heard? pop goes the world.
Jenny played keyboard, johnny played drums,
Called little baby and a big bonhomme
Everybody tell me have you heard? pop goes the world.
It goes something like this: (p p p pop)
Johnny and jenny had a crazy dream,
See their pictures in a magazine.
Every little boy needs a girl.
Pop goes the world.
Jenny and johnny getting smart (it seems)
Made more money on a movie screen.
Every little nest needs a bird.
Pop goes the world.
One two three and four is five,
Everybody here is a friend of mine.
Whatever happened to the duke of earl?
Pop goes the world.
Six seven eight and nine is ten,
Send al gunn to see the doctor (ben)
Say what planet are we on? the third!
Pop goes the world.
And every time I wonder where the world went wrong,
End up lying on my face going ringy dingy ding dong
And every time I wonder if the world is right,
End up in some disco dancin all night & day.
Johnny played guitar, jenny played bass,
Name of the band is the human race.
Everybody tell me have you heard? pop goes the world.
Johnny played guitar, jenny played bass,
Aint nobody couldnt take their place.
Everybody tell me have you heard? pop goes the world.....
