She Is Me

Sandalwood
and the hum of busy stitches
drift through memories
on faded photographs.
a gentle hand
that turns a crackling recording
of gospel tunes
and electric guitars,
she sits reading
romance and heroes
while romance evades her sight
and heroes only fall
-
hiding her failings in the small oven
where memories were cooked
and tea leaves danced
in the ochre hue
of yesterdays travels,
she danced in hallways
aiming to please
a jeering crowd,
all except one
who took the gifts
and wrapped them in cobwebs
to open in secret
---
pressing the glistening silver
into small palms
she recited psalms
in anxious tones.
the softest of kisses
could not detract
from the perfect waves
of red
that adorned a head
so distant
so conformed
to ideals
of reform
---
and so she will dance
burn incense
of sandalwood
to rid the blight
of idealist sight

for these three
are she
and she is they
in some small way

Romance Bore Seduction

Hand blessed hand, caressed.
A blushing rose, her face;
Her breast alive;
The elfin nose, a diamond set -
A kiss upon perfection

Bore a rise of pulse
To coach a sultry moan
Across a mellow breath of wine.
He knew; he sensed,
And easing loose a clasp of lace,
Another sign of her relenting:
Wild the play of eyes,
A fuller glide of skin;

He felt the now begin -
Her swell, intention in the sigh.

And so to hedge his move upon the cue -
The cry of deep anticipation,
Waxing all he saw -
Tho' not for us to view -
Arrived, emotion raw.

Air Dance

She sits in silence, in her midnight world
Her faded pictures, of her dancing girls
Her, distant dreamer, on the seas of time
Her happy memories, dancing through her mind
In days of romance
She was the queen of dance
Shed dance the night away
And as the seasons turn the days to years
She holds her pictures, hears the silent cheers
The days grow lonely for the dancing queen
And now she dances only in her dreams
In days of romance
She was the queen of dance
Shed dance the night away, away, away, away

Perhaps Especially In Old Age/How Happiness Comes Suddenly From Such Small Things

PERHAPS ESPECIALLY IN OLD AGE/HOW HAPPINESS COMES SUDDENLY FROM SUCH SMALL THINGS

Perhaps especially in old age,
How happiness comes suddenly from such small things-
The surprising sight of glistening leaves,
A shaft of sunlight on a cold morning,
The sky opening up after the rain-

Small perceptions and deep feelings
Happiness from such small things
even in old age.

Memories

Memories
All I have is memories
All I have is memories
Memories of you
Now youre gone
They linger on, these memories
All these precious memories
Memories of you
How they linger in the twilight
In the morning in the small hours
Just before dawn
Memories
Of summer days so long ago
People in the places
That we used to know
Oh those memories
How they linger in the twilight
And in the wee small hours
Sometime just before the dawn
Oh those memories
Oh happy times those memories
All I have now is memories
Memories of you
Oh memories
All those precious memories
All I have is memories
Memories of you

Faded Photographs

On the mantle place they sit
Glimpses of yesterdays
Memories of the good times
Before you said it was your time to go

Memories linger on
When the shadows disappear
Memories of the times
When you were near

Glimpses of the love we had
Memories of times
I never wish to forget
Captured forever in our faded photographs

Rearview Mirror Romance

Im movin Im feeling like Im rollin on my own (what could be better)
Then somewhere drivin my car the radio turn it on (what could be better)
I check around in traffic from my point of view (what could be better)
Then I saw her in the mirror
Maybe the same thing has happened to you
It was
(chorus)
Romance in a rearview mirror
Romance after just one look
Romance in a rearview mirror
I didnt know her but it didnt matter
Romance in a rearview mirror
Just by chance I still cant believe that its true love reflected sight
Its a rearview romance tonight
She pulled up close first glance I saw here eyes (what could be better)
I couldnt stop starin at her she didnt realize (what could be better)
Then looked up in the mirror smile on her faace
There she goes heaven knows
Maybe the same thing has happened to you
It was
Romance in a rearview mirror
Romance after just one look
Romance in a rearview mirror
I didnt know her but it didnt matter
Romance in a rearview mirror
Just by chance I still cant believe that its true love reflected sight
Its a rearview romance tonight
(solo)
There she goes heaven knows
I wanna meet her all alone
Romance in a rearview mirror
Romance after just one look
Romance in a rearview mirror
I didnt know her but it didnt matter
Romance in a rearview mirror
Just by chance I still cant believe that its true love reflected sight
Its a rearview romance tonight
Romance in a rearview mirror
Romance after just one look
Romance in a rearview mirror
I didnt know her but it didnt matter

A Kissed Hand

There was no hint that he
would take my hand
and there plant a kiss.

There was no warning
that it would tingle first
and rush to my very center;

the brush of soft lips
I think
the unusualness,
the velvety breath
those eyes of his
looking up as he placed
his mouth there lingering
which too
caused another rush
rudding my cheeks
to crimson hue.

No one kisses hands these days
but he did;
and I so suprized I almost curtised
but flummoxed instead I
placed my hand
on his adoring cheek
planting there
my own kiss;

a gesture proffered
but meantime he
took my hand
and placed it upon his other cheek-
a startling match between hand and kiss
was all it took
for romance to begin-

no matter how far any romance might go-
because in love
much is to be said for perfect beginnings
and small gestures.

A Fine Romance

A fine romance, with no kisses
A fine romance, my friend this is
We should be like a couple of hot tomatoes
But youre as cold as yesterdays mashed potatoes
A fine romance, you wont nestle
A fine romance, you wont wrestle
I might as well play bridge
With my old maid aunt
I havent got a chance
This is a fine romance
A fine romance, my good fellow
You take romance, Ill take jello
Youre calmer than the seals
In the arctic ocean
At least they flap their fins
To express emotion
A fine romance with no quarrels
With no insults and all morals
Ive never mussed the crease
In your blue serge pants
I never get the chance
This is a fine romance

Hawaiian

SANDALWOOD, you say, and in your thoughts it chimes
With Tyre and Solomon; to me it rhymes
With places bare upon Pacific mountains,
With spaces empty in the minds of men.

Sandalwood!
The Kings of Hawaii call out their men,
The men go up the mountains in files;
Hands that knew only the stone axe now wield the iron axe:
The sandalwood trees go down.

More sandalwood is called for:
The men who hunt the whale will buy sandalwood;
The Kings would change canoes for ships.
Men come down from the mountains carrying sandalwood on their backs;
More and more men are levied;
They go up the mountains in files; they leave their taropatches so that famine comes down on the land.

But this sandalwood grows upon other trees, a parasite;
It needs a growing thing to grow upon;
Its seed and its soil are not enough for it!

Too greedy are the Kings;
Too eager are the men who hunt the whale to sail to
Canton with fragrant wood to make shrines for the
Buddhas;
Too sharp is the iron axe!

Nothing will ever bring together again
The spores and the alien sap that nourished them,
The trees and the trees they would plant themselves
upon:
Like the myths of peoples,
Like the faiths of peoples,
Like the speech of peoples,
Like the ancient creation chants,
The sandalwood is gone!

A fragrance in shrines
But the trees will never live again!

The Scottish Dance

I once had myself a Scottish Lassie
She then became my joy and pride
Then one-night she gave me Scottish ale
Then she became my Scottish bride

~We then danced around the table
We danced across the floor
We danced and danced all night long
And then we drank a little more~

She enjoyed to go out clubbing
Her family and mates I would meet
She was so exciting and loving
And when I grabbed her she said I was cheek...

I once had myself a Scottish Lassie
She was also my Scottish bride
She fed me Scottish eggs and Haggis
I got so sick I thought I had nearly died.

~So we danced around the table
We danced across the floor
We danced and danced all night long
And then we ate a little more.~

She took me out dancing
Where I would meet her friends and mates
She would drink and dance all night long
How I wished to go back to the states...

I once had myself a Scottish Lassie
She was also my Scottish wife
She told me she loved me with all of her heart
And together we would share the same life.

~So we danced around the table
We danced across the floor
We danced and danced all night long
And then we loved a little more~

I would take her out drinking
Every Friday and Saturday night
One thing she loved more than drinking or singing
My lassie she loved to argue and fight...

I once had myself a Scottish Lassie
But that was many years ago
I will always remember my Scottish Lassie
And the places that we use to go

~We would dance around the table
We would dance across the floor
We would dance and dance all night long
And then we would dance a little more~

Now I am alone and single
But her memories and thoughts I do keep
I remember the good-times and not the bad
So now I smile and I never weep

~So I dance around the table
I dance across the floor
I dance and dance all night long
And then I drink and dance a little more~

The Old Man

He sits quietly murmuring
Talking only to himself
His eyes sunken and dark
A look of tiredness across his face
His head is slightly bowed
Resting upon his hand
He sits alone in almost darkness
Except for a small table lamp
In the far corner of the room
There is little in the way of light
Old books gather dust
In piles around upon the floor
Those stories he once read
The worlds to which he escaped
Now stacked without order
Like memories becoming forgot
A glass of vintage wine
Held in his thin, bone like fingers
Softens his pallet, soothes his throat
While he sits alone each night
In quiet conversation with himself
Another old man growing grey
Wishing on yesterdays

My Romance

My romance doesnt have to have a moon in the sky
My romance doesnt need a blue lagoon standing by
No month of may, no twinkling stars
No hide away, no softly guitars
My romance doesnt need a castle rising in spain
Nor a dance to a constantly surprising refrain
Wide awake I can make my most fantastic dreams come true
My romance doesnt need a thing but you
My romance doesnt need a thing but you

And I Danced In Freedom

Some times when i walk,
and i danced for freedom,
and some wonder i am old,
and weary born hearts gold.

Some will dance that dance,
and fall beside there brother,
Two can dance that dance,
one leaves to make amens.

Quite walks i quake each night,
and this is how youth grows, and
i danced with freedom into sleep.

Eternity Wrapped

empty nest,
fragments of shells,
and small indentures

of living...
sunlight echoes,
haunting memories....

of wings flapping
against the emptiness
of pure being....

eternity wrapped
in small creatures
and simple things!

The Sight Of A Small Child

THE SIGHT OF A SMALL CHILD

The sight of a small child
Brought tears to my eyes
To watch him fumble
And falter
Fall and rise
Near his mother’s caring eyes
Was all the pleasure
A morning needed.

Symbols

PALM Sunday at the Vatican

They celebrate with palms;
With reverence bows each holy man,

And chaunts the ancient psalms.
Those very psalms are also sung

With olive boughs in hand,
While holly, mountain wilds among,

In place of palms must stand:
In fine, one seeks some twig that's green,

And takes a willow rod,
So that the pious man may e'en

In small things praise his God.

And if ye have observed it well,

To gain what's fit ye're able,
If ye in faith can but excel;

Such are the myths of fable.

Summer Romance

summer romance
the ever lasting moments
seeing you happy
fills my heart with joy

with the sun shining down on us
like nothing's there but the summer romance
all the wind and the waves
when we picked out our faves

the flower smell
sweet and small
i found what ive been searching for at last
its called summer romance

the sun shines so bright
when you told me this was right
with you in my arms
when we took a picture of the farms

in a flower we saw a bee
and told me that i will see
that tomorrow is a bright day
in so many kind of ways

so this is summer romance
ever lasting moments
being with you
its just that ill always love you

Small Town

Well I was born in a small town
And I live in a small town
Probly die in a small town
Oh, those small communities
All my friends are so small town
My parents live in the same small town
My job is so small town
Provides little opportunity
Educated in a small town
Taught the fear of jesus in a small town
Used to daydream in that small town
Another boring romantic thats me
But Ive seen it all in a small town
Had myself a ball in a small town
Married an l.a. doll and brought her to this small town
Now shes small town just like me
No I cannot forget where it is that I come from
I cannot forget the people who love me
Yeah, I can be myself here in this small town
And people let me be just what I want to be
Got nothing against a big town
Still hayseed enough to say
Look whos in the big town
But my bed is in a small town
Oh, and thats good enough for me
Well I was born in a small town
And I can breathe in a small town
Gonna die in this small town
And thats probly where theyll bury me
