September 22

It's the day of the ram
and the head of the year
Rosh Ha'Shanah at
services I sat next to
Mel Torme who outshone
all comers with his bar
mitzvah heroics while on
my left is Barnett Newman
big talker whose favorite
subjects include the horses
and the stock market he
knows the odds the women
are seated upstairs this is
an orthodox congregation
very serious I make
eye contact with the wife
of Menelaus who runs off
with Paris confident I'm Paris.

I Love Paris

Every time I look down on this timeless town,
Whether blue or gray be her skies,
Whether loud be her cheers, or whether soft be her tears,
More and more do I realize that...
I love paris in the spring time
I love paris in the fall
I love paris in the summer when it sizzles
I
Love paris in the winter when it drizzles
I love paris every moment
Every moment of the year
I love
Paris, why oh why do I love paris
Because my love is here

In Paris With You

Don't talk to me of love. I've had an earful
And I get tearful when I've downed a drink or two.
I'm one of your talking wounded.
I'm a hostage. I'm maroonded.
But I'm in Paris with you.

Yes I'm angry at the way I've been bamboozled
And resentful at the mess I've been through.
I admit I'm on the rebound
And I don't care where are we bound.
I'm in Paris with you.

Do you mind if we do not go to the Louvre
If we say sod off to sodding Notre Dame,
If we skip the Champs Elysées
And remain here in this sleazy

Old hotel room
Doing this and that
To what and whom
Learning who you are,
Learning what I am.

Don't talk to me of love. Let's talk of Paris,
The little bit of Paris in our view.
There's that crack across the ceiling
And the hotel walls are peeling
And I'm in Paris with you.

Don't talk to me of love. Let's talk of Paris.
I'm in Paris with the slightest thing you do.
I'm in Paris with your eyes, your mouth,
I'm in Paris with... all points south.
Am I embarrassing you?
I'm in Paris with you.

He Said...

He said the air was better in Paris.
In Paris we could breathe
Like we never could
Here in the little home I had built.

So...
I left with him
For the better air
And wine and cheese and cafes and Paris
And because I too wanted to breathe.

Yesterday he left
For Spain and Spanish things
And the little Flamenco dancer
From the Café...

Outside my window
The rain pounds mercilessly on the roses he planted for me...
Such lovely things,
So sad to see them die.

Paris Song

Paris so beautiful at night
And during the day is beautiful also
The Eiffel Tower is located in the center of Paris
But all the flowers in Paris are blooming in the parks
And at la seine
Yes spring is heret in Paris
And I am enjoying the spring
But the flowers in the parks here in Paris are beautiful
Because they are a show of colors

Going To Paris

We are going to paris
In a ship with red sails
As the storm gathers slowly
We eat fishheads and snails
The mate jumps up, throws down a line
To a man overboard for the ninetieth time
And then he says with a wink
Sometimes I think
Ive been doing this forever!
We are going to paris
In a ship called the ? ?
There are signs in the sky at night
That the captain says hes seen
I keep books under my pillow
And read them before I sleep
Strange places I go to,
Strange companies I keep
We are going to paris
We are one and thirty strong
I can feel it in the air
Well be there before long
The wind has come
Like a man insane, insane
We are going to paris
It rains and it rains
We are going to paris
In a ship with red sails
We are going to paris
In a ship with red sails

Menelaus and Helen

I

Hot through Troy's ruin Menelaus broke
To Priam's palace, sword in hand, to sate
On that adulterous whore a ten years' hate
And a king's honour. Through red death, and smoke,
And cries, and then by quieter ways he strode,
Till the still innermost chamber fronted him.
He swung his sword, and crashed into the dim
Luxurious bower, flaming like a god.

High sat white Helen, lonely and serene.
He had not remembered that she was so fair,
And that her neck curved down in such a way;
And he felt tired. He flung the sword away,
And kissed her feet, and knelt before her there,
The perfect Knight before the perfect Queen.

II

So far the poet. How should he behold
That journey home, the long connubial years?
He does not tell you how white Helen bears
Child on legitimate child, becomes a scold,
Haggard with virtue. Menelaus bold
Waxed garrulous, and sacked a hundred Troys
'Twixt noon and supper. And her golden voice
Got shrill as he grew deafer. And both were old.

Often he wonders why on earth he went
Troyward, or why poor Paris ever came.
Oft she weeps, gummy-eyed and impotent;
Her dry shanks twitch at Paris' mumbled name.
So Menelaus nagged; and Helen cried;
And Paris slept on by Scamander side.

Paris in Spring

The city's all a-shining
Beneath a fickle sun,
A gay young wind's a-blowing,
The little shower is done.
But the rain-drops still are clinging
And falling one by one --
Oh it's Paris, it's Paris,
And spring-time has begun.

I know the Bois is twinkling
In a sort of hazy sheen,
And down the Champs the gray old arch
Stands cold and still between.
But the walk is flecked with sunlight
Where the great acacias lean,
Oh it's Paris, it's Paris,
And the leaves are growing green.

The sun's gone in, the sparkle's dead,
There falls a dash of rain,
But who would care when such an air
Comes blowing up the Seine?
And still Ninette sits sewing
Beside her window-pane,
When it's Paris, it's Paris,
And spring-time's come again.

Summers In Paris

each summer i go to paris to write
and each trip i make you greet me
as though you haven't seen me in ages
then you tell me i get more beautiful
with each passing year
but i'm just getting older
and it's really men not women that
get better looking with age

i pose for you by day watching your brush
as it whisks over canvas
nights are spent in quaint restaurants
where we eat only the finest foods
chasing it down with the best of the wines

later in the night i try to write
but you won't let me
you're too busy teasing and tickling me
it's impossible to concentrate
you never cease tempting me into your bed
you tell me i will be famous
once your masterpiece is complete
then when i come to paris
everyone i pass by in the city will know me

Une Nuit A Paris

Part one: one night in paris
Bonjour monsieur
Paris really welcomes you
Its the best room in the house
Its forty francs a night, alright.
Its crazy, it isnt worth a centime
Ill take it!
Merci monsieur
Rouged lips in the gaslight
A great view of the hall
Thats the way the croissant crumbles after all
Paris is only one step away
Les girls are out on bail
Tres bien theres love for sale
Oh my cheri, wish you were mine
And Ill show you a wonderful time
For the price of a cheap champagne
Ill show it you once again
One night in paris
Is like a year in any other place
One night in paris
Will wipe the smile off your pretty face
One girl in paris
Is like loving every woman
One night in paris
One night in paris
One night in paris
May be your last!!!
Part two: the same night in paris
Is he gonna buy?
You wanna little culture?
Is he gonna pay?
Maybe monsieur is into photographs, non?
Or is he gonna fall in love
The all american way?
I got a watch wiz a beautiful swiss movement
Is he gonna buy?
Forget the watch, Ill show you a good time!'
Is he gonna pay?
Le connoisseur, want something different?
Or is he gonna fall in love
The all american way?
Oh you know you aint no casanova
You cant even do the bossa nova
Or the tango or the samba!
Though you are so very charming
No you aint no casanova
Is he gonna buy?
Is he gonna pay?
Or is he gonna fall in love
The all american way?
Sometimes I think he will
But then again........................
One night in paris
Is like a year in any other place!
One night in paris
Will wipe the smile off your pretty face!
Try a girl in paris
But try one of mine
Each night in paris
Each night in paris
Each night in paris
Each night in paris
May be your last!!!
Part three: later the same night in paris
Forty-two, quarante-deux
Rue de saint jacques
All our girls are how you say
Good in the sack
I was a stripper
On the champs elysees
He was a gendarme
In the gendarmerie
Going oh la la la
Oh la la la la
He was a pimp
In a black beret
But he was an artiste
In his own way
Oh la la la
Oh la la la la
When they raided my club that night
They ruined my act with the leather umbrella
The chief de police got a fright
He was up in my boudoir with some other fella
Its only routine
But I got this feeling
It aint good for business
Then the floor cleared
A woman screamed to herself
Henri...though youre not the toast of paris
I love you, although you bed and beat me
Henri, leave it alone,
For the gendarmes just doing his job
Paris is only one step away
Murder is only one step away
Notre dame is ringing her bells
Another gendarme has gone to hell
Notre dame is ringing her bells
Another gendarme has gone to hell
Gone to hell
Gone to hell
One night in paris
Is like a year in any other place
One night in paris
Will wipe the smile off your pretty face
One girl in paris
Is like loving every woman
This night in paris
This night in paris
This night in paris
This night in paris
May be your last!!!

Reverse Is The Case

I shall make thee my Romeo and shall be thy Juliet
And nothing like Paris shall come in ‘twixt us this time
I will destroy thousands of young men named Paris
And unite both houses of Montague and Capulet with love
Then will have William Shakespeare write a play called 'reverse is the case'
Therefore thou shall be my Helen and I shall be thy Paris
For there will be no Agamemnon come between us amore
And I shall destroy thousands of Menelaus with Hector's sword
Wherefore will have Homer's epic Iliad altered for once
I shall be more fairer than fair Helen when she lived
Whose admired worth made Greece with ten years of wars afflict poor Troy
And shall launch ten thousands of admiration and love
With which ten thousand years men shall serve thee for thy daughters' sake
Then will have Hera and Athena themselves withdraw like the stars ashamed in
comparisonwith You, my Aphrodisiac beauty.

Azure-te

(b. davis, d. wolf)
Gone and got the blues in paris,
Paris blues called azure-te.
How can I be blue in paris?
Easy, cause youre far away.
Cant lose this blues,
This azure-te.
Moments, springtime, eiffel tower,
Funny taxes, kids at play.
Paris without you is lonesome,
Yearning more and more each day.
Cant lose this blues,
This azure-te.
~interlude~
If you knew how much I need you,
Youd come back to me to stay.
Having you with me in paris
Really is the only way
To lose this blues,
This azure-te.
Cant lose this blues,
This azure-te.

Ved en Vens Afrejse til Paris!

Ved en Vens Afrejse til Paris!'
Mel. Jeg er et Søndagsbarn!

Hør Venners Stemme: drik og spiis!
Thi snart, saa er Du i Paris,
Og nyder der, ja, Gud veed hvad,
Men det er ei den danske Mad!

Paa Boulevarden skal Du gaae;
Gud give at vi saae derpaa!
I Omnibus og i Coucou,
Hvo er saa lystig vel, som Du!

Vi see Dig alt halv udenlandsk,
Grisetter smaa Dig lære Fransk;
Du reiser bort som Nordens Iis,
Men kommer hjem som — ak Paris!

Du oversættes skal paa Fransk,
Originalen er dog Dansk,
Dit Træk med Hovedet, dit Smiil -
Nei, aldrig glemmes det Emil!

Skjøndt Hjertet sidder lidt paatvers,
Skal Visen aande kun Comers!
Igjennem Taarer kan man lee!
Farvel! farvel! det Bedste skee!

A Weepy

A weepy movie.

I have been watching a movie on TV, a love story about a girl named Sabrina. I fall for
it every time; yes, I know the technicality of filming but still believe the story. Yes,
I know it is about upper class love, the chauffeur’s daughter, and the son of the house.
They end up in Paris, where else? Nothing mundane about the film, like, can I afford
a flight ticket to Paris? Money problem kills love. Last year my wife and I took a coach
to Paris 36 hours– we are divorced now-. We spent so much time finding a place to
eat and sleep we had little time to see the sights. Saw the Eiffel tower though, you
could build a ship with all that iron. It disturbed me, the Unknown Soldier’s grave;
eternal flame. Soldiers died for business interests and the lust for power. Wish this
was the only truth, fact is young men like killing each other, they just need someone
to say it’s legal. In Paris I read poetry in defense of the Palestinians, for an audience
of Jewish people, but since they didn’t understand Norwegian they applauded.
For a moment I was a star on the firmament of vanity. I will not be back to Paris again,
less I can afford to drink a bottle of expensive wine.

Lovers In Paris

Nomore going lower,
Babie lets go higher,
Me and you on the tower,
Lovers in Paris
Je t'aime

Nomore of the oldest,
Babie strive for the newest,
The water is bluest,
Lovers in Paris,
Je t'aime

Nolonger be bitter,
Your eyes shall glitter,
The grass is now greener,
Lovers in Paris
Je t'aime

Take a closer look,
Shall I write you a book,
You and your new look,
Lovers in Paris
Je t'aime

Through water or by air,
Solong we reach there,
Without fright or fear,
Lovers in Paris,
Je t'aime

The Young Woman From Paris In France

The one with brown eyes and brown hair her Hometown is Paris in France
She has such a sweet singing voice and to music she loves to dance
She is in her twenty fourth year and happy in her single life
For some very lucky young man she will make a beautiful wife.

Her accent is easy to love like the lilt to a beautiful song
Of her voice one never could tire I'd listen to her all day long
To this Town she's like a breath of fresh air not many French people live here
Except for the rare tourist who stop for a break from travel I meet one perhaps once a year.

She has such an old World charm and she has such a beautiful face
And she doesn't find it hard for to smile a woman of charm and grace
'Twould be nice if here she did settle but in our Town I know she won't stay
The young woman from Paris in France from home she is so far away.

She says she will go home next year in beautiful May of the Spring
In the green parks of Paris in France she will hear the birds whistle and sing
And on the verandah of her old home with family and friends out of the glare of the sunshine
She will sing along in the sing song as she enjoys a glass of good French made wine.

My Tears for you!

When i try to forget
and again i am lying to me
So; my first Tears in Paris
are given to you!

When my thoughts, smilling, Oh! I am safe
and my soul dreams that is free but in chains she is
So, my second Tears in Paris
Claim to you!

When my heart is untrue to myself
i insist and believe in
So my third Tears in Paris
come to you!

When i am forced to see what really is
my chest a warning do So, just know
all my Tears of entire world
drain to you!
