Talkin World War Iii Blues
Some time ago a crazy dream came to me,
I dreamt I was walkin into world war three,
I went to the doctor the very next day
To see what kinda words he could say.
He said it was a bad dream.
I wouldnt worry bout it none, though,
They were my own dreams and theyre only in my head.
I said, hold it, doc, a world war passed through my brain.
He said, nurse, get your pad, this boys insane,
He grabbed my arm, I said ouch!
As I landed on the psychiatric couch,
He said, tell me about it.
Well, the whole thing started at 3 oclock fast,
It was all over by quarter past.
I was down in the sewer with some little lover
When I peeked out from a manhole cover
Wondering who turned the lights on.
Well, I got up and walked around
And up and down the lonesome town.
I stood a-wondering which way to go,
I lit a cigarette on a parking meter
And walked on down the road.
It was a normal day.
Well, I rung the fallout shelter bell
And I leaned my head and I gave a yell,
Give me a string bean, Im a hungry man.
A shotgun fired and away I ran.
I dont blame them too much though,
I know I look funny.
Down at the corner by a hot-dog stand
I seen a man, I said, howdy friend,
I guess theres just us two.
He screamed a bit and away he flew.
Thought I was a communist.
Well, I spied a girl and before she could leave,
Lets go and play adam and eve.
I took her by the hand and my heart it was thumpin
When she said, hey man, you crazy or sumpin,
You see what happened last time they started.
Well, I seen a cadillac window uptown
And there was nobody aroun,
I got into the drivers seat
And I drove 42nd street
In my cadillac.
Good car to drive after a war.
Well, I remember seein some ad,
So I turned on my conelrad.
But I didnt pay my con ed bill,
So the radio didnt work so well.
Turned on my player-
It was rock-a-day, johnny singin,
Tell your ma, tell your pa,
Our loves are gonna grow ooh-wah, ooh-wah.
I was feelin kinda lonesome and blue,
I needed somebody to talk to.
So I called up the operator of time
Just to hear a voice of some kind.
When you hear the beep
It will be three oclock,
She said that for over an hour
And I hung it up.
Well, the doctor interrupted me just about then,
Sayin, hey Ive been havin the same old dreams,
But mine was a little different you see.
I dreamt that the only person left after the war was me.
I didnt see you around.
Well, now time passed and now it seems
Everybodys having them dreams.
Everybody sees themselves walkin around with no one else.
Half of the people can be part right all of the time,
Some of the people can be all right part of the time.
I think abraham lincoln said that.
Ill let you be in my dreams if I can be in yours,
I said that.

Nobody Really Knows
We stood outside the city,
Six feet in the snow,
And everyone was stranded
And I stopped to say, hello.
Everybody kept on walkin
Who didnt have no place to go.
Everybody kept on walkin
That had no place to go,
And everybodys talkin
But nobody really knows,
Nobody really knows.
And say, I think youll stay awhile,
You know just where its at.
Pull up a chair and
Stay awhile,
Well give ya tit for tat.
I said, you know something,
Im not sure I really like that.
I said, you know something,
I believe Ill grab my coat and hat.
I got outside,
Down in the street below, and everybody started walkin
That didnt have no place to go,
And everybodys talkin
But nobody, nobody really know, no,
Nobody really know.
And say you think youre really good for us.
We know you are and its true,
Aint nobody can do more for you
Than we can do.
We can give ya money,
Watch you spend it all the time,
And make sure
You dont
Ride on down the line.
I said, I believe I wont
cause I aint got no place to go.
Im just stranded and Im walkin,
And I dont have no place to go,
And everybodys talkin
But nobody, nobody really know,
Nobody really know.
And they say, sing the song one more time
cause I really believe I know what it means,
I was with you last night
When you wrote it in your dreams.
I said, is that right?
How
Can you be so complete?
Y, you cant stop talkin
Every time you move your feet.
You know that were all stranded,
We aint got no place to go.
We are stranded here
In the city in the snow,
And everybodys talkin
But nobody really knows,
Nobody really know.
Everybodys talkin,
Everybodys talkin,
Everybodys talkin,
And everybodys talkin but
Nobody really know.
Everybodys talkin but
Nobody, nobody really know,
They just pretend they know.
Nobody really know.

No Son Of Mine
Well the key to my survival
Was never in much doubt
The question was how I could keep sane
Trying to find a way out
Things were never easy for me
Peace of mind was hard to fin
And I needed a place where I could hide
Somewhere I could call mine
I didnt think much about it
Til it started happening all the time
Soon I was living with the fear everyday
Of what might happen that night
I couldnt stand to hear the
Crying of my mother
And I remember when
I swore that, that would be the
Last theyd see of me
And I never went home again
They say that time is a healer
And now my wounds are not the same
I rang the bell with my heart in my mouth
I had to hear what hed say
He sat me down to talk to me
He looked me straight in the eyes
He said:
Youre no son, youre no son of mine
Youre no son, youre no son of mine
You walked out, you left us behind
And youre no son, no son of mine
Oh, his words how they hurt me, Ill never forget it
And as the time, it went by, I lived to regret it
Youre no son, youre no son of mine
But where should I go,
And what should I do
Youre no son, youre no son of mine
But I came here for help, oh I came here for you
Well the years they passed so slowly
I thought about him everyday
What would I do, if we passed on the street
Would I keep running away
In and out of hiding places
Soon Id have to face the facts
Wed have to sit down and talk it over
And that would mean going back
They say that time is a healer
And now my wounds are not the same
I rang that bell with my heart in my mouth
I had to hear what hed say
He sat me down to talk to me
He looked me straight in the eyes
He said:
Youre no son, youre no son of mine
Youre no son, youre no son of mine
When you walked out, you left us behind
And youre no son, youre no son of mine
Oh, his words how they hurt me, Ill never forget it
And as the time, it went by, I lived to regret it
Youre no son, youre no son of mine
But where should I go and what should I do
Youre no son, youre no son of mine
But I came here for help, oh I was looking for you
Youre no son, youre no son of mine - oh
Youre no son - ha yeah, ha yeah, ha yeah, ha yeah
Youre no son, youre no son of mine - oh, oh...

Down By The Seaside
(page/plant)
Down by the seaside. see the boats go sailin
Can the people hear, what the little fish are sayin
Oh, oh, the people turned away. oh, the people turned away
Down in the city streets, see all the folk go racin, racin
No time left, to pass the time of day
The people turned away. the people turned away
So far away, so far away
See how they run, see how they run, see how they run, see how they run.
Do you still do the twist
Do you find you remember things that well
I wanna tell you... some go twistin every day
Though sometimes its awful hard to tell
Out in the country, hear the people singin
Singin bout their progress, knowin where theyre goin
Oh, oh, oh, oh, the people turned away
Yes, the people turned away
Sing loud for the sunshine, pray hard for the rain
And show your love for lady nature. and she will come back again the people turned away
The people turned away

Cadillac Dreams
When I was seventeen, found out just what it means
If you can get it free, it just aint worth a damn
When I heard the preacher say, dont throw your life away
I got that message, and I wrote it on the wall
I dont want anybody tellin me lies, no, I dont want your diamond ring
cause you aint got my size
I want money, money, thats what I need,
I got cadillac dreams, please mister dontcha take it from me
Give me money, money, more than I need, I got cadillac dreams waitin on me
Cadillac dreams, cadillac dreams
When I had the young boy blues, I paid some young boy dues
I learned the hard way, theres a heartbreak every day
Stone cold reality came crashing down on me
Well life was hard on me, but I still dont give a damn
When I was seventeen I was an angry young man
But I wont let just anybody tell me who I am
I just want money, money, thats all I need
I got cadillac dreams, hey mister dontcha take it from me
Give me money, money, more than I need, these cadillac dreams are waitin on me
Didnt have the time of day, till this dream was born
You cant take that away, you cant take that away from me
(solo)
When I was seventeen, there was this beauty queen
Checked in a one room suite, the back seat of my car
When you want all the best things money can buy
You gotta reach down inside of you, to reach up to the sky
Yeah, I want money, money, thats all I need
I got cadillac dreams, hey mister you cant take that from me
I want money, money, more than I need, I got cadillac dreams waitin on me
Money, money, thats what I need
Were drivin in my chevy with my cadillac dreams
Someday, one day, just you and me
Well ride inside these cadillac dreams

Crazy Arms
Now blue aint the word for the way that I feel
That old storm brewin in this heart of mine
Someday, your crazy arms will hold somebody new
But now, Im so lonesome all the time
Crazy arms that reach to hold somebody new
While your yearnin heart keeps sayin
Youre not mine (not mine)
My troubled mind grows blue
To another, youll be wed
But now Im so lonesome, all the time
Now take all those precious dreams
I had for you and me
And take all the love I thought was mine
Someday, your crazy arms will hold somebody new
But now, Im so lonesome all the time
Crazy arms that reach to hold somebody new
But my yearnin heart keeps sayin
Youre not mine (not mine)
My troubled mind grows blue
To another youll be wed
And now Im so lonesome all the time
And now, Im so lonesome all the time
Yeah, now Im so lonesome all the time

Rock & Roll Band
Well, we were just another band out of boston
On the road to try to make ends meet
Playin all the bars, sleepin in our cars
And we practiced right on out in the street
No, we didnt have much money
We barely made enough to survive
But when we got up on stage and got ready to play
People came alive.
Rock and roll band
Everybodys waitin
Gettin crazy
Anticipating love and music
Play, play, play, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Dancin in the streets of hyannis
We were getting pretty good at the game
People stood in line and didnt seem to mind
You know everybody knew our name
Livin on rock-n-roll music
Never worry bout the things we were missing
When we got up on the stage and got ready to play
Everybodyd listen.
Rock and roll band
Everybodys waitin
Gettin crazy
Anticipating love and music
Play, play, play, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Playin for a week in rhode island
A man came to the stage one night
He smoked a big cigar
Drove a cadillac car
And said, boys, I think this bands outta-sight
Sign a record company contract
You know Ive got great expectations
When I hear you on the car radio
Youre goin to be a sensation!
Rock and roll band
Everybodys waitin
Gettin crazy
Anticipating love and music
Play, play, play, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Little Girls
Little girls of the world, youre all so sprung
15, 16 and all so young
I thought about you just last night
Grabbed my pen then I started to write
A rap thatll cap like a true blue rap
Not a washed-up almost mc sap
Little girls so fresh and I know you are
Wanna take a little ride in my new car
I see you more than baby, its more like hell
You screw a little girl and end up in jail
Even though she seems shes 19
Youre looking at her body an its breaking the jeans
Well you know shes not, so dont play dumb
Little girls walking round trying to give me some
But I tell em like this, Im the player $hort
Playing freaks like you is just a sport
Im coming way too real and I can never be funny
Niggas like me just want your money
Give it up, cause Im no lost cause
Little girl recognize too $horts the boss
When they turn 16, we all find out
What little girls like that are all about
So you girls out there, that fit my rhyme
Youd better think twice before you jump on mine
Little girls so thick, you might think shes grown
But if you knew when she was born, you might leave her alone
Shes trouble homeboy, with a big fat t
Little girls like that make old men pee
Then a brother like me might break my neck
Looking back saying ooooh! bout to get in a wreck
Cause shes always flirting, might give me a look
Like I put her in the oven and she started to cook
But when I put her on the spot, she could not hang
With my so rough, so tough playboy game
I only said two words, something like get busy
Her head started hurting and she got real dizzy
Growing up to fast, all you little girls
Letting brothers like me cold crush your world
Shouldve listen to your momma when she told you so
But you wnet and got gd now you want some more
They aint paying me money, talking bout love
And the other girls who Im thinking of
Can you understand, Im just a man
I want to come in this world and cold take the man
So just step on back, while I walk on by
I might look you down, and I might say hi
And if you come up choosing, I just might laugh
Say little girl check me out in about two and a half...years
I took a little girl to a drive in show
Jumped in the back and heard no no no
She was only 16 but the girl was ripe
36-24 and a 35
I was wasting time spitting lines
Thinking bout going home cold getting mine
Baby said stop it I said drop it
I tried everything but I could not cop it
I was going to a store about a month ago
Met another girl that just loved my show
We talked for a while and it was all about
Having big fun later on at her house
She said her pops was gone but her mother was there
And everything was cool cause she dont care
So I gave her a ride, kissed her goodbye
I said Id be back and we all know why
Went to find my thrill up on that hill
I was coming right back with the power drill
I had fun for a while but it wasnt enough
When it all got good, her pops showed up
He must have walked in the room and said young punk
Cause when he walked in the room, he smelled the funk
Then he tried to mash, but I dont play
Cause I was out of that window and on my way
Little girl
Every night you call and say come by
You tell me things changed and I know you lie
I came by last week, you said drive on up
And your pops came out talking all that stuff
Next night we made a date for 9 oclock
And I always wondered why you walked the block
I saw you waiting on the corner when I made the turn
I didnt really think about it cause I wasnt concerned
I said, you look so good, but you always do
I was rushing to the house for the old 1 2s
But the ones aint cool, and the twos dont work
Every time I tried, you kept saying it hurts
And then it all came out under all your tears
It seems you only been alive for 15 years
You could have fooled me baby with your lying scheme
Said you worked in the mall and just turned 18
When it came down to it, I couldnt go through it
Its all so sad cause you wanted to do it
Little girl, you want to have some fun
Youd better wait a few years cause youre much too young
Stop playing games, you might find a guy
Who will like you for yourself, not for all your lies
So I put it like this, and I dont play
If I see your young ass, Im not going your way
You little girl

Bob Dylan's New Orleans Rag
by Bob Dylan
I was sittin' on a stump
Down in New Orleans,
I was feelin' kinda low down,
Dirty and mean.
Along came a fella
And he didn't even ask.
He says, "I know of a woman
That can fix you up fast."
I didn't think twice,
I said like I should,
"Let's go find this lady
That can do me some good."
We walked across the river
On a sailin' spree
And we came to a door
Called one-oh-three.
I was just about ready
To give it a little knock
When out comes a fella
Who couldn't even walk.
He's linkin' and a-slinkin',
Couldn't stand on his feet,
And he moaned and he groaned
And he shuffled down the street.
Well, out of the door
There comes another man.
He wiggled and he wobbled,
He couldn't hardly stand.
He had this frightened
Look in his eyes,
Like he just fought a bear,
He was ready to die.
Well, I peeked through the key crack,
Comin' down the hall
Was a long-legged man
Who couldn't hardly crawl.
He muttered and he uttered
In broken French,
And he looked like he'd been through
A monkey wrench.
Well, by this time
I was a-scared to knock,
I was a-scared to move,
I's in a state of shock.
I hummed a little tune
And I shuffled my feet
And I started walkin' backwards
Down that broad street.
Well, I got to the corner,
I tried my best to smile.
I turned around the corner
And I ran a bloody mile.
Man, I wasn't runnin'
'Cause I was sick,
I was just a-runnin'
To get out of there quick.
Well, I tripped right along
And I'm a-wheezin' in my chest.
I musta run a mile
In a minute or less.
I walked on a log
And I tripped on a stump,
I caught a fast freight
With a one-arm jump.
So, if you're travelin' down
Louisiana way,
And you feel kinda lonesome
And you need a place to stay,
Man, you're better off
In your misery
Than to tackle that lady
At one-oh-three.

When You're A Man On Your Own
(Carl Perkins)
They don't have words
To say how blue I'm feelin'
This ol' world can lift you up then lay ya' down
It's a mighty lonesome feelin'
When your lover's gone
This ol' town go's colder
When you're a man on your own
I keep walkin' the streets of this ol' city
Window shoppin' but I can't see a thing
Just a walkin' and a humin'
This lonesome song
This ol' town grow's colder
When you're a man on your own
O' look at them their smilein'
They don't know I'm here
They couldn't care less
If i just up and disappeared
O' there must be a reason
Why my nights are so long
It's a mighty lonesome feelin'
When you're a man on your own
Yeah it's a mighty lonesome feelin'
When you're a man on your own

Dont You Think?
Some people
Dont worry
bout nothing
Dont know whats going on
Im not one
Who cant say theyre sorry
I just care whats going on
Theres more important things
Than making sure your watch looks just right
And second hand opinions
Dont make you look any smarter
Dont you think
Dont you think
Dont you think that maybe
Its time , yes its time
Time you started thinking
Time you started thinking
And dont just sweeten up the taste
Brother shoots brother
But meanwhile youre fixing up your face
Youre not affected by the truth
Unless its on your doorstep
Deodorise your paradise
No point in getting crazy
Dont you think
Dont you think
Dont you think that maybe
Its time , yes its time
Time you started thinking bout things in the back of your head
Someone said before you turn a blind eye
Hear a bell ring sex sells everything
But I dont buy it so dont try it
Sleeping in the small world head in the sand
Better wash your hands , make a new plan
Theres more important things
Than making sure your shoes just walk right
Ignore reality theres nothing you can do about it . . .
The clothes you wear dont make the man
Its just another party

Down The Road
I'm in a kind of foolish game, I try to get rich quick,
But I'm going insane,
The kind of freaks that hang out on 42nd Street
They're all pimpin' Judys and poppin' speed, well
It's a game of cat and mouse, and I think it's got my soul,
I think it's time for thinkin' 'bout a time to roll on
Down the road
Here comes Big Mike, I kinda owe him some beans,
He must be crazy, I guess that's why he's so mean,
If I tell him I'm leavin', he would sure enough split my gut,
Cause he knows I sold to a sucker, and I owe Big Mike a cut,
But I'll slip him a 20-dollar bill till I get out of town,
When I hit those white lines, I'm gonna be gone like a

Once Bitten Twice Shy
(ian hunter)
Well the times gettin hard for you little girl
Im a hummin and a strummin all over gods world
You dont remember when you got your last meal
And you forgot just how a woman feels
You didnt know what rock n roll was
Until you met a drummer on a greyhound bus
I got there in the nick of time
Before he got his hands across your state line
Well in the middle of the night
On the open road
And the heater dont work and its oh-so cold
Youre gettin tired, youre lookin kinda beat
The music of the street, drive you off your feet
You didnt know how rock n roll looked
Until you caught your sister with a guy from the group
Half-way home in the parking lot
By the look in her eyes she was givin what she got
Once bitten twice shy, babe
Woman youre a mess gonna die in your sleep
All the blood on my hand and my les paul heat
I cant leave you home cos youre runnin around
My best friend told me youre the best trick in town
You didnt know that rock n roll burned
So you bought a candle and you loved and you learned
You got the rhythm, you got the speed
Mammas little baby likes it short and sweet
Once bitten twice shy, babe
I didnt know ya got a rock n roll record
Until a saw your picture on another guys jacket
You told me I was the only one
And look at you now, well its dark as its dumb
Once bitten twice shy, babe

Lucille
In a bar in toledo across from the depot
On a barstool she took off her ring
I thought Id get closer
So I walked on over
I sat down and asked her name
When the drink finally hit her
She said Im no quitter
But I finally quit living on dreams
Im hungry for laughter
And here ever after
Im after whatever the other life brings
In the mirror I saw him
I closely watch him
I thought how he looked out of place
He came to the woman
Who sat their beside me
He had a strange look on his face
The big hands are callous
He looked like a mountain
For a minute I thought I was dead
But he started shaking
His big heart was breaking
He turned to the woman and said
You picked the fine time to leave me, lucille
Four hungry children and a crop in the field
Ive had some bad time
Live thru some sad times
But this time your hurtin wouldnt heal
After he left us, I ordered more whiskey
I thought how he made him look small
From lights of the bar room to a rented hotel room
We walked without talking at all
She was a beauty, but when she came to me
She must have thought I lost my mind
I couldnt hold her, the words that he told her
Kept coming back time after time.
You picked the fine time to leave me, lucille
Four hungry children and a crop in the field
Ive had some bad time
Live thru some sad times
But this time your hurtin wouldnt heal
You picked the fine time to leave me, lucille

Right Down To It

Published by greentunes, inc. - bmi
Whoa yeah
She was down and out, had just enough
Of the things to keep a young girl alive
It was gettin rough, but she soon got tough
To the fact of makin sure she survived
She was out of luck, she didnt have a buck
So I laid it to her straight on the line
Get up for me baby
Come on were gonna have a good time
My my baby, come on were gonna have a good time
Over here
Sooner or later, girl, I will persuade ya
Just to gimme gimme gimme what you got
Well I dont have a lover, that would blow my cover
Come on and give some of your rock n roll love
I was feelin great, I didnt hesitate
So I looked the girl right in the eye
Baby baby baby, come on were gonna have a good time
So I got right down to it
Sweet sixteen never looked so good before
You know I always knew it
But this time I knew better than before, oh dig it
You know I didnt say much, but I guess I said enough
Cause the two of us were doin really good
When the sun came a risin, I was realizin
That I had to have her with me if I could
I was feelin great, I didnt hesitate
So I looked the girl right in the eye
Baby baby baby, come on were gonna have a good time
So I got right down to it
Sweet sixteen never looked so good before
You know I always knew it
But this time I knew better than before
You know, I almost blew it
But she held me back away from the door
And we got right down to it, ooh, we did

Little Thing
So, um, so weve been doing this, uh, this tour, what I guess this is our
Fifth show weve done, tim and i, and, uh... (applause) and, uh, so this little
Song has been growing out, uh, while weve been playing, sort of a little
Story. and the little story I was in new york city and, uh, I was walking down
The street. trying to find the place I was going (I cant remember where I was
Going now). cause I met this girl and I asked her directions, you know. and
She was, she was tiny, you know. she, she wasnt young, she was just tiny. and,
Uh, so I asked her directions and she said, oh thats the way down there, walk
Over there, go down there, you walk over there, and you go down there and then
Youre there. something like that, anyway. so, uh, but I walked about ten
Paces away and I was thinking... daaamn, that girl was fine. and, oh, I turned
Around to tell her so, and ask her maybe her name, or maybe if we should go and
Get a cup of, who knows, coffee or something. and Im sure if I turned around
And find
Her there I would have found out something...
But she talked so good
But when I turned around, she was gone
Oh, she was gone
I didnt even get her name, oh
I thought, goddamn
With your face in my mind
And your voice in my ears
To echoes
Oh, I bought a lovely flower
Standing there, we met that day
And hope that you would return
But, no, no, no
I cant remember where I was going
But I cant remember where I was leading to
Or what led me to you, but
Oh, and the weight is all through my head
The look of you, the sound
The way you cackled at me
From then and then, I didnt know where I was going
But always I cry
And so, hey, oh
The hands that pour my hands on you again
Hey, I will beg you, Ill beg, oh
See me, please find me again
Oh, Im lost again
I sit here drinking coffee
Or water depending the time of day
But, oh, youre with me like a ghost of a mother
Oh, youre with me like the pain of a father
Oh, I wish i, I wish I could call you something
Other than the girl that I saw then
But, hey, I think that I would recognize you in a second
But, hey, I only saw you for a minute, maybe less
I dont hold my hand where
But I waited, honest
Im lost now, Im lost now
I cant remember what I used to be
But, oh, hey, yeah, weighted by the memory of
The memory of a love that never got born, but hey
Oh, hey
Do I even cross your mind lately
With more than just a laughing
Did you think as you walked away, maybe
You were, hey
Oh, I hope you did
So, hey, yeah
You would, you would have been feeling
The same thing as I am know
Thank you very much.
Speaking to tim: lets try to think of some other song... interrupted by fans
Requesting songs.
(southern accent)but we, but we done already done it, done it then! (switches
To pseudo-homosexual voice) thatd be like, you know, like, um, sing and sing,
And then not sing it for a little while, and then sing it again. and people
Would be like, whyd he sing that again?

No Son Of Mine
The key to my survival
was never in much doubt
the question was how I could keep sane
trying to find a way out
things were never easy for me
peace of mind was hard to find
and I needed a place where I could hide
somewhere I could call mine
I didn't think much about it
til it started happening all the time
soon I was living with the fear everyday
of what might happen at night
I couldn't stand to hear the
crying of my mother
and I rememeber when
I swore that, that would be the
last they'd see of me
and I never went home again
they say time is a healer
and now my wounds are not the same
I rang the bell with my heart in my mouth
I had to hear what he'd say
He sat me down to talk to me
he looked me straight in the eyes
he said:
You're no son, no son of mine
You're no son, no son of mine
You walked out, you left us behind
and you're no son, no son of mine
oh his words how they hurt me, I'll never forget it
and as the time, it went by, I lived to regret it
You're no son, no son of mine
but where should I go,
and what should I do
you're no son, no son of mine
but I came here for help, I came here for you
Well the years they passed slowly
I thought about him everyday
what would I do, if we passed on the street
would I keep running away
in and out of hiding places
soon I'd have to face the facts
we'd have to sit down and talk it over
and that would mean going back
they say time is a healer
and now my wounds are not the same
I rang the bell with my heart in my mouth
I had to hear what he'd say
He sat down to talk to me
he looked me straight in the eyes
he said:
You're no son of mine

Losin' Kind
My name is frank davis, drive up Dixie 109
I was out on Highway 17, just south of the camden line
It was down there in heart of Wilsonville, where I met my fate
She was standing outside a barroom, said she was waitin' for a date
but I knew that was just a line
And I knew I was messin' with the losin' kind
well I knew what we were both doin', and I knew that u cant win
But when the light turned green, I reached across the seat, popped the lock and she slid in,
She said she liked Mexican music, she knew a place if I had the time
So we had a few drinks and we danced for a while,I pulled her close, she didnt mind
And what I knew kinda slipped my mind,
And I couldnt resist her kiss, with the losin' kind
Well we drove around in my Buick, getting drunk and having fun
We ended up at the Best Western, out on Highway 101
It was around 3:00a.m., we went out, to this empty little roadside bar
It was there the cash register was open, it was there I hit that guy real hard
But I knew, when I hit him, for a second time,
that one attracts the other, when there the losin' kind
Well I grabbed her hand to get out of there, then I felt like I was gonna be sick
About a half hour later the sleet started comin' down,

A Front Row Seat To Hear Ole Johnny Sing
Now you know some fellahs, they want fame and fortune
Yeah, and other fellahs they just wanna swing
But all I wanted all my life
Was a TV set and a truck and a wife
And a front row seat to hear ole Johnny sing.
Yeah the TV and the truck I got on credit.
And I got that girl with a little old Woolworth ring
And life was warm and life was sweet
But still, it was kinda incomplete
Without a front row seat to hear ole Johnny sing.
chorus:
Hey, John you walk the line,
Do 'Deelia' one more time
And when you do them Cottonfields
You warm this heart of mine.
So, one day I thought, Hey, I'm gonna do it!
(That's what I said)
So, I mortgaged the farm and pawned her wedding ring.
I sold the gold tooth out of my mouth
And jumped in the pickup and headed South.
For a front row seat to hear ole Johnny sing.
I hit Nashville cold and wet and hungry.
I said, 'I'm here, bring him on let him do his thing.'
But they told me down at the Old Pit Grill
I'd have to go all the way to Andersonville
For a front row seat to hear ole Jonny sing.
I found his house knocked on the door and it was opened
By a brown-haired girl and a baby with a teethin' ring.
I said 'I seen you somewhere before
but don't stand there and block the door
I want a front row seat to hear ole Johnny sing.'
(chorus)
She said I'd have to go down to The Opry
And the feller there said I'd have to wait till Spring.
He said, 'We've been sold out for months and months
And this poor insane fellah wants
A front row seat to hear ole Johnny sing.'
Well, he said a couple more things, and I started cryin'
And then he laughed at me and that's when I started to swing.
Well I bust through the doors in a roaring rage,
Crawled over the crowd till I reached the stage
For a front row seat to hear ole Johnny sing.
(chrous)
Then some crazy guard started shootin'
I shot back, and the next thing I know I was winged
and on the floor
When a guy in a voice kinda deep and low
Says, 'Boy that's a mighty long way to go
For a front row seat to hear ANYBODY sing.'
And I guess that judge, he weren't no music lover.
I got fifteen months but that don't mean a thing.
Cos' yesterday in the prison yard
A show come through and HAR! de HAR!
I had a front row seat to hear ole Johnny sing.
(chorus plus some typical Shel ranting and raving)
