Road To Lovina
descending
from the misted island apex
of a garish golf club
resort
the mountains slope seaward
in second gear
through monkey
territory
past the poorer of the poor
on the arid karst
past rainforest
artist retreats
and down the valley
through the clove hamlets
siesta
on mattresses of drying cloves
we blend our heads
with harvest buds
in a documentary
of the clove
and every smile
to greet our drive
a frivolous after-school
atmosphere
of kids
all arms and flirting
going home
slow as tropical plants
compacted into Dutch
economies of space
picket fence
clove-stained sarongs dry
a breezy
ignorance of history
‘behind’ us now
dormant volcano
kept sleepy with prayer and
animal sacrifice
the road goes on
to inter-island seas
where the blood and ash
of speechless times
are purged
with cloves
to feed the coral
in its turquoise sea
blooming without bitterness
lurid shallows
and dark up welling
as the shelf drops off
towards such depths
the mountain can’t imagine
under its fragrant canopy
medicinal levels
of easy questions
asking why
why the sharks
rise up sometimes
to terrorise the bright
green light
and we know that cloves
can’t answer that
nor the shady school
of rural thought we thought
we’d found again
like a promise to return

The first lesson of life on Mother's lap!
*How sad my poor Mom pawned her earrings for my books and she replaced some cloves on her earlobe?
Poor Mother is an Autumn in the chilly Winter.
That warmth you never get anywhere?
She reads a passage from the book of life
Keeping me as a soft toy on her lap.
'Hey! My little rascal what you see in the books?
One day you have to be there and see from your visual eye.
Mountains, Seas, Rivers, Brooks, Streams
Caves, Animals, Real human and else!
I remember one full Moon day she asked;
'What's your intension Johnny? '
I said that I want to be a Pilot!
Then she said with a wry smile;
'Somehow that's good, but what you gain from the barren sky?
Try to be a Skin Diver if possible at least you could see the hidden treasure at the mysterious bottom of the Ocean! '
Humbly to all Mothers in the World!

No Fears, No Hassles
imagine that i am stranded
on an island surrounded by a big
body of water
infested with sharks,
imagine the fear
and the loneliness
and the alienation
but then, i always imagine
that you are with me
and i am with you
and that you are my god
who shall never leave me
and so on this island
where i am alone (i am not
equated with sadness
and loneliness)
i shall think of love
i shall always see
the fidelity of the sun and moon
and the sea that comes in waves
bringing me the
promise
the good news that soon
all these
will be over.

The Red And Green Sky
There’s a place I’d never thought I’d show ya
It’s been so long since this space was found, as
We as people, walk with our heads firmly in the ground,
But at the end of the day your heads held up and away
So follow my steps and I’ll show you,
It’s not all the same at the end of the day, I promise you
Do you notice the sky up ahead?
“Where have all the greys and blues gone
You said, nothing looks the same”
But you’re in an unknown place,
A place with no need to name,
Underneath the red and green sky
Upon a mountain cliff, made of gold
You life played out before you,
A picture of revolving, glowing mold
Then whisked off into the sky, you left,
Whereabouts too is unknown,
Into the red and green sky you head,
Maybe being shown a brand new start
Away from the pain of life, where
Things start to make sense once again,
Now you see your life mend then blend
Into the red and green sky you went.
Returning regally re-dressed, you seem renewed,
The red and green sky did again, I thought.
As you stood, amazed by the truth, you spoke,
“Never to be the same again, never again”
We shared some strawberry wine,
To amuse ourselves
We drink to ourselves, to the sky
Underneath the red and green sky again
This is a place I’d never thought I’d show again
It’s been so long since this space was found
A place with no need to name,
Underneath the red and green sky, we came

Space Monkey
Space monkey, space monkey
What you doing out there?
Why its dark as a dungeon way up in the air
Come gather round me you little monkeys and a story Ill tell
About a brave young primate, outer space knew him well
He was born at the top of a big old tree
Way back in 1953.
He could swing through the jungle and hang by his toes
Till they took him to russia cause they could I suppose
They dressed him up in a spacesuit and it started to snow
Shot him off in a rocket where no man would go
Space monkey space monkey
What you doing out there?
Why its dark as a dungeon way up in the air
Therell be no one to greet you when you get back home
No hammer or sickle youll be on your own.
He had plenty of cuban bananas and loads of spam
But he found great difficulty trying to open the can
One day he slipped on a banana peel and the ship lost control
It spun out of orbit and shot o]ut the black hole
Its been four decades now, thats nine monkey years
Thats a long time for a space monkey to confront all his fears
Space monkey space monkey
What you doing out there?
Why its dark as a dungeon way up in the air
Therell be no one to greet you when you get back home
No hammer or sickle youll be all on your own.
Space monkey, space monkey
Its time to get real
The space race is over, how does it feel
Cold wars had a heatwave, iron curtains torn down
Theyve rolled up the carpet in space monkey town
Now leningrad is petersburg and petersburgs hell
For a card-carrying monkey with a story to tell
The space monkey was reportedly last sighted about
A half a block off of red square
In a karaoke bar having a few drinks with some of his friends
There was the dog that flew sputnik
And a blind red-headed, one legged parrot
Who had done some minor research for dow chemical
They were drinking american vodka
Imported all the way from paducah, kentucky
And reportedly had their arms around each others
Shoulders singing.
Those were the days, my friend, we thought theyd never end
Space monkey, space monkey
Theres nothing to do
But its better than living in a communist zoo
Therell be no one to greet you when you get back home
No hammer or sickle youll be all on you own

In School
in school,
when i saw you
i intuited i have found
my lost world in you
i wish i could act
to be appreciated
by you in school.
in school,
it would be too sad
to narrate the ordeal
i have been through
i wonder if its best
i had met you
in the school.
in school,
though i had not said it
there has been so many ways
that i have shown it
my actions had done
whatever i wanted to say
at school.
in school,
i never thought
being in love
could take me to madness
well, it is better than
leaving me in sadness
in the school.
in school,
when i approached you
i knew i was silly
it was because
suddenly,
i forgot who i was
in school
in school,
why do you sneer
when i am near
it really breaks me
just tell me what to do
to get a room from you
in and out of school.
in school,
sometimes though it is hard
i guess i must let go
some things i wish to have
though good things also
could be found elsewhere
as it has been in school.

Whoever rubs himself with garlic will not smell of cloves.
What Is School Like?
School is like a prison
We can’t leave,
School is like an island
We are all trapped,
School is like a pie
It is good at first until you reach the crust,
School is like a toilet
It is full of germs,
School is like a salad
You have to put something on it to make it better,
School is like a stupid cat
It never dies,
School is like a garbage truck
It smells, it’s big and you can here it from a mile away,
School is like a baby
It always needs your attention,
School is like a shark
It just keeps chasing,
School is like going to jail
You never want to go back,

All My Dreams Left In Past
How the years have passed so fast
All those beauties have gone with the past
I remember all my dreams
Purple they were and blue
Oh, my god how much i'm in need to
To believe once again to the pover of my dreams!
While at the past I never was afraid to dream
And now even the wish of dream, Is lost
And I came here alone
All the beauties that oneday I've had
I've left them at the past and
i'm all alone
Even the wish of smlle
All those people that I loved
Those were more precious than my eyes
My grandmother and her angelic smile
She was my shelter where I've always run
Everytime that l've got mad
I went there and I cried
Even my shelter I've lost
with the past
The sun above and the blue sky
How much I felt happy at the past
When every morning through my road to school
The sun chased
my childish spirit and always how I felt glad
Through my road to school
And every evening in return I always prayed to find him in my road
Oh, everything and everyone
All those that I loved
Lost them with the past!

The Salt Flats
Here clove the keels of centuries ago
Where now unvisited the flats lie bare.
Here seethed the sweep of journeying waters, where
No more the tumbling floods of Fundy flow,
And only in the samphire pipes creep slow
The salty currents of the sap. The air
Hums desolately with wings that seaward fare,
Over the lonely reaches beating low.
The wastes of hard and meagre weeds are thronged
With murmurs of a past that time has wronged;
And ghosts of many an ancient memory
Dwell by the brackish pools and ditches blind,
In these low-lying pastures of the wind,
These marshes pale and meadows by the sea.

African Blood
Green Island!
Hope and dreams;
Red Island!
Scandals and crises;
But, my faith will lead me on! !
Because, i have the African blood in me.
Yellow Island!
With the national hymn in the name of freedom;
But, the syntheses of my love is what i share with you as at now.
Black Island!
The African blood is in me;
So, be very nice to respect my culture,
For, there is no place like home.

Carnations (Balassi Stanza)
Carnations grow lovely,
perfect beauty I see
in vivid colours of white
red, pink, some are yellow
with loveliness they glow,
are usually quite bright,
they smell somewhat like cloves,
have purity of doves,
they are flowers drawing sight.

Fire Island
drivind on the lawn
sleeping on the roof
drinking all the alcohol
all the kids from school
will be naked in the pool
while our parents are on fire island
cranking up the tunes
til the windows break
feeding chocolate to the dog
jumping on the couch
til the featers all come out
while our parents are on fire island
(chorus)
we're old enough by now
to take care of each other
we dont need no babysitter
we dont need no father or mother
we're old enough by now
dont worry about a thing
dont you remember last december
when u went to steamboat springs??
driving on the lawn
sleeping on the roof
drinking aLL the alchol
all the kids from school
will be naked in the pool
while our parents are on fire island
(chorus)
driving on the lawn
sleeping on the roof
dringing all the alcohol
all the kids from school
will be naked in the pool
while our parents are on fire island.

Abernathy Road Roundabout
Bronze angel, strong arms
lifting the rainbow,
you stand in the center.
Our fast cars veer around
north, then east
to shop, to school,
to home
but we can’t see
what you see.
Even the truckers,
who lumber down
Abernathy Road
and enter the circle
with heady grapes
ready for press, for barrel,
for thick, green bottle
steer past you.
Our lives are scheduled over-full.
We all have
some place else to go
until unfulfilled,
we return at last
to our bright center,
and in your embracing arms
we rest.

Found Out About You
All last summer in case you dont recall
I was yours and you were mine forget it all
Is there a line that I could write
Sad enough to make you cry
All the lines you wrote to me were lies
The months roll past the love that you struck dead
Did you love me only in my head?
Things you said and did to me
Seemed to come so easily
The love I thought Id won you give for free
Whispers at the bus stop
I heard about nights out in the school yard
I found out about you
Rumors follow everywhere you go
Like when you left and I was last to know
Youre famous now and theres no doubt
In all the places you hang out
They know your name and know what youre about
Whispers at the bus stop
I heard about nights out in the school yard
I found out about you
Street lights blink on through the car window
I get the time too often on am radio
You know its all I think about
I write your name drive past your house
Your boyfriends over I watch your light go out
Whispers at the bus stop
I heard about nights out in the school yard
I found out about you

Paper Ignorance
'We are all example
of human and am a sample.
So, have a time so ample
and enjoy it like an apple.'
Pre-school,
life so cool,
No cane, no pain-one rule
to ignite ignorance in mind and soul.
School life,
wake five or past half,
angry for a robbed sleep you have
to be, but an end laugh!
Post-school,
woe [soiled] words
you meet in this world.
Easy to fight with a paper you hold!
No school,
Full of pre-school,
No history, hard post school!
No defense and no tool!
'We have been a sample of all
the human, inhuman...man as whole,
we had nice time, not hard as wall
enjoying it like an apple in the mouth of an owl! '

Spice Girl
Bland and ordinary will not do,
They’re much too dull for the likes of you.
Plain Vanilla makes you snooze,
even chocolate is yesterdays news.
You’re a bit of a nut, Meg, it appears,
a bit hung over from ginger beers.
Your racks ‘well stocked with exotic favors.
Cinnamon stick your favorite flavor.
Cloves and garlic, Tarragon too
You’re a saucy wench, and tasty true.
But of all the spices on your shelf
I first reach for you, yourself.

Crazy Island
Written by John Mellencamp
Hey Hey America
You're some kind of crazy island
You're a place where dreams can grow
And there's history in your mansions
Good fortune in your plantings
You're well respected we all know
Hey Hey America
Let's check your children
And see what they might know
Hey Hey America
With your salesmanship and your salaries
And your strip malls a growin'
And your handguns and your heresies
Don't hold no responsibility
In this land of easy millions
Hey Hey America
It's so thrillin' to see you grow
You're some kind of crazy island
You're some kind of crazy island
Well I prefer a sunny day
I just thought maybe I'd live a little bit longer that way
I don't think we should look the same
Or talk the same
Yeah I think it's a shame
And Hey Hey America
Across the new horizon
Are you sure that's the way we should go
'Cause I don't know
Maybe it's too late for all that
And Hey Hey America
You're wrapped up in your red, white and blue
Hey Hey America
Wrapped up in yourself and your red, white and blue
Hey Hey America
You're some kind of crazy island
You're some kind of crazy island
Hey Hey America
You're some kind of crazy island
You're a place where dreams can grow
And there's history in your mansions
Hey Hey America
You're some kind of crazy island
Some kind of crazy island

Mummy, Mummy Who Invented School?
mummy, mummy,
who invented school?
oh, sweetheart,
what a clever girl you are;
why don’t you tell me first
who you think invented school?
I think, mummy,
school must have been invented
it must be by people
like old grumpy Uncle Grim
next door;
and the grouchy Aunty Scowl
who lives behind our house
oh no, darling,
oh no, not at all:
O darling,
wise men and women
of the past
they invented school
oh, mummy,
they couldn’t
have been wise
not if you went to school
and see what happens in class;
surely those men and women
of the past
couldn’t have been wise
if they created places
where little kids are tested
every three days;
and little John thinks he’s stupid
and little Sue says she’d rather
stay at home and sleep;
and Tua and Helen are always
tense and nervous
and Chandra snores while the teacher talks
oh no -
oh, no darling,
oh no,
it’s not like that at all:
O darling,
they were wise and all-knowing
those
sage men and women
of the past
who invented school
so little children like you and your friends
can go and learn all you need to know
but why mummy,
why a school?
is it because daddy and you
and grandma and grandpa
you know nothing and
you can’t teach me
what I need to know?
oh, no darling,
oh no not at all;
O darling,
you must listen to mummy -
wise men and women
of the past
most certainly
they invented school

No Hiding Place
No hiding Place
Shadow, shadow on the wall why did you disappear? Now I can’t go into
the bathroom to see if I’m here. Look at the map of Rumania, think of Dracula
switch on more light; and remember I have no garlic cloves. Look up Norway,
on the Google map, such a pleasant country, peace loving people,
the plods carry no guns and you can ask them for direction and they will tell
you where to go should you be as stupid as get lost in their quaint little towns.
But I also see a man dressed in fantasy uniform, walking around a lake island
killing children like they should be rabbits infected with myxomatosis and
it must be stopped before it spreads to people on the mainland.
The shadow on the wall is back looks familiar I wave the shadow waves back.
I’m safe in my tiny Portuguese village, but for how long?
