Persian Dreams
Dreams of old Khayyam's Rubayat
And glazed brown shiny doors of old
Now open up to darkened candy stores
Burst from imagination's folds
The doors fly open and alas
I see but bare walls of an empty room
No comics stands or chocolate bars
No Brownie Hawkeye cameras to buy
The candy store was dark and narrow then
So rich with hidden treasures in its womb
For the most part I could not afford
I was but twelve and thirteen then
It must have been in late teenage
That Persian poets came into my life
With jugs of wine, and loaves of bread
Words that could last a lifetime and beyond
So when I woke at three a.m.
The candy store, its doors and shelves
Lay on my pillow, as did phrases of that poem
You know the one, about the keys and veils
I had been walking with two friends
With arms entwined, it was a cheerful time
And clear as I am speaking to you now
I said the lines, I know I did
'There was a door to which I found no key
There was a veil past which I could not see
A little talk there was of me and thee
And then no more of thee and me'
Why did it come to me so clear
And in a dream of places long gone by
Of unknown hopes and wishes of a child
A dream so bright, I felt quite young again
It may be I am growing old
And oriental veils are calling me
Beyond those locks and doors
And deserts of the mind that Omar knew
Will there be candy stores that open wide
To me in spirit as I float
Will bites of chocolate-coated treats
Fill every mouth with widened throat
Is Khayyam's world or afterworld
More sweet then than the one we heard
In Hamlet's saddened speech to walls beyond
The harsh and cold stones of the Danish fold
We Westerners do shine in ghastly tomes
On hell and purgatory drear
Infernos burning all the wicked bones
And squeezing out all forms of fear
So is the truth then in a candy store
Or in a jug of wine beneath the bough
My dream may be the advocate
The tipping of the mortal scale
For as I live, it is quite dear
To contemplate a warm place full of glazed and colored tiles
With mustached, handsome lovers lying near
To bring the first fruits and the harvest's smiles
Perhaps I was a gypsy in Bombay
Or slave girl in the steppes of Caucasus
In times long gone, remembering no more
Except in dreams that grow at three a.m.
Though born to frozen northern lands this time
I cannot feel the sting of Yorick's skull
Or Vikings frosty search for whales and cod
They leave me cold, if you forgive the pun
When all is said and done and I pursue
The hot and heavy struggles of a poet's pen no more
Who will then reach for me beyond the veil
Will it be Omar with the grizzled Rumi, bard or yore?

Walking by an old abandoned building
That once housed a penny candy store,
I envisioned all the wide-eyed children
As they gazed at the display of candy galore.
I was saddened by the closure,
And it took me back to the days of yore
When I, too, was spending my pennies

A Child's Sweet Dream
Deep in the night where all dreams come true
is a candy factory just waiting for you.
Its storage room is filled with sugar and spice
and racks adorned with candy sweet and nice.
Peppermint sticks welcome you at the door,
and peanut brittle covers the entire floor.

My suicidal candy
There’s candy everywhere
Littering the floor
My candy openers still here
The bottle’s near the door
And so to open that candy,
The opener had to touch my wrist
And out flowed wonderful things
My Twizzlers, and my Licorice
And it hit the floor
Never stopping, my Licorice spring
So I drank my bottle of wonder potion
That dissolved almost everything
And little pills of chocolate
M&M’s, can’t you see?
A bottle of a magic Fruit Punch
All this candy is for me
More Fruit Roll up
Go down my arm
More white Skittles
They are my charm
And I keep slipping,
With my opener knife
Oh Butterfingers!
Life Savers with no life
Keep ‘em coming hands
More Jub Jubs, more Twix
More chocolate coated apples
Now they are my fix.
And I know what you’re thinking
How can she eat so much candy?
But don’t worry, I won’t be long
But they do come in handy.

I’m leaving this awful world
And taking my suicidal candy.
I wrote this because some bad things are happening to me, and i needed to get it out. If you didn't notice, the candy represents something else, but since food has been my recent problem(I don't like to eat) , I wanted to show my previous/recent problem with that problem mixed in. And all of the candy means something else. I just hope everyone gets what i meant....

Candy Coated Dream
Such bitter sweetness falls within a candy coated dream
the place where hope extends beyond the sugar coated scheme
as we dance and dance, around the candy cane sticks
Prancing hand in hand, as we come to one we both lick
Love blooms as we meet in a kiss, like in Lady and the Tramp
Our candy kingdom ruled by two, as the umpa lumpa's dance
We walk through the land, and gaze forever into each other's eyes
And then climb the steps to ride down the milk chocalatey slide
Landing in a pool of such wonderfully pure sweetness
We embrace in a hug, that like the chocolate, is made of pure greatness

My Dear Irish Grandfather
My grandfather recalled
Some days of old when he
Collected pieces of coal -
Black cotton -
From the train tracks in his town, our U.S.A.
In his hands he'd hold
Pieces he brought home - coal to burn in a pot belly stove -
The only way sometimes
For him and his 'Pa'to keep warm back then in the days of old.
That's a story he told me.
I remember as a little girl
Walking along the road to the little one room candy store - the road that was
Part of my world -
By the greenhouses where flowers grew for market.
My friends and I looked for coke bottles amoung the tall grasses
Worth not one cent but two!
Each small glass bottle we found meant two pieces of penny candy -
Like a Christmas stocking feast - making our hearts soar..
My grandfather found coal
But lots of times we got candy at the penny candy store!
