Late In The Evening
The first thing I remember, I was lying in my bed
I couldntve been no more than one or two
And I remember theres a radio, coming from the room next door
My mother laughed the way some ladies do
Well its late in the evening, and the musics seeping through
The next thing I remember, I am walking down a street
Im feeling alright Im with my boys and with my troops, yeah
Down along the avenue some guys are shootin pool
And I heard the sound of acapella groups, yeah
Singin late in the evening, and all the girls out on the stoops, yeah
Then I learned to play some lead guitar, I was underage in this funky bar

Too Late
Too late we listen,
too late we learn.
Too many years
when the fires did burn.
It all seemed cozy.
It all seemed warm.
We let time slip away
and then did form
a comfortable way to move along,
never asking, 'Is anythng wrong? '
Too late we listen,
too late we learn
to show compassion and show concern.
There were no signs to recognize.
There were no tears formed in the eyes.
We did not ask what we wanted to know.
We contented ourselves with when we go
we won't have to confront these things today.
They'll all be gone when we pass away.

to help discern

My Dark Dreams
I'm in the dark
And I'm lost
In my mind, screaming
Through the empty
Space, filled with no light
All I hear is my echo
I listen and hear the echo
Of silent breaking through the dark
Nothingness that consumes any light
That I don't see, in this lost
Place of empty
Dreaming, in which I scream
Soon as it stops, the screaming
High painful cry, and the echo
Fades, leaving me again in the empty
Hallow thoughts of my dark
Sleep, and wander through my mind lost
Of what I had, it was my light
What I had was like a warm light
That held me from the bitter screaming
Of the cold, it found me when I was lost
It covered me like a blanket, and echoed
Through my soul, with it I was never in the dark
And never left empty
Now, in my sleep, I am empty
The warm blanket of hte light
No longer holds me, but exposes me to the dark
And painful piercing screams
Of my own voice echoing
In my nightmares of what I've lost
I am lost
In the emptiness
Of my own pain, that echoes
Through me, and all I want again is the light
For it I scream
In my dreams, but all I get in the dark
I dream of the dark and I'm lost
My screaming is only heard by the empty
Space in my mind, where light shined, but there is only echo.

What I Miss About Heaven
Mama always said love is like heaven
Holdin' hands in church and prayin' together
Late night talks and morning walks
But I don't remember all that innocent stuff
What I can't forget is the feel of your touch
I guess I ain't no angel, but you gave me a reason to sing
To have you back in my life again, I would trade all silver rings
So forgive me for the cold hard truth
The only thing about heaven I miss is you
We run out of time and things to say
But I find any old excuse to make you stay
One little thing we did just right
Now it takes all night, to shake you from my memory,
I toss and turn in my empty bed, trying to break free
